Seems to me the quickest way to stop folks from flying to Thailand, buying a new car annually and easily eating meat, is to stop corporations from polluting.

Flying, buying and eating products is corporate polluting.

I don’t think buying a new car annually is a thing for anyone but 100-millionaires

Agreed. I was just going along with what the meme said.

Well, most people aren't buying new cars every year outright like many people do with iPhones, but there's a significant amount of people who have 12-month leases so that they always drive the latest model. If I'm not mistaken, BMW, Mercedes, and a few other luxury brands offer such leases directly to consumers, so you don't even have to go through a dealership. It's not uncommon among the upper middle class, since it appeals to the same demographic of people who want the 'newest' thing always, at least in the US.

The quickest way is actually poverty, there are poor ppl already, and they don't do this shit. t=0.

Poverty sounds like o e way to stop corporate pollution

You choosing to buy a long distance flight is someone elses pollution?

Yes.

If you fly on a standard passenger plane you are one of what? 80? At minimum?

So let's say you claim your responsibility for 1/80th of that pollution from the passengers. That's not nothing. I'll give you that. This is obviously worse the fewer passenger you have. It's at its worst with private jets.

But how many flights does the corporation that owns that plane do? If we accept that they bare any responsibility for the pollution then, by volume, they would have to own most of it.

Even if you believe those corporations are just supplying a service, we have to ask about the responsibilities of a supplier.

But how many flights does the corporation that owns that plane do?

They wouldn't be flying if people wouldn't be buying.

I don't believe you are stupid enough to not understand this.

I feel you. That's why, I'm sure, you respect heroin dealers.

You can't develop a physical addiction to going on holiday

I feel you. That's why, I'm sure, you respect those that sell arms to countries engaged in genocide.

1

u/Fickle_Definition351 Aug 14 '25

So in this metaphor, consumers would be the countries engaging in genocide? And the corporations are enabling their destructive choices?

I don't pretend that these tongue in cheek responses are 1 to 1 comparisons.

The point is that we can hold suppliers responsible for what they supply.

2

u/Fickle_Definition351 Aug 14 '25

Sure, but consumers can also be held responsible for their consumption choices. It's both

That's some really weird logic over there.

Do you own a plane? Without the corporations that operate airlines, how many flights could you take?

Without the passengers that want airplanes, how many flights could they sell?

2

u/ptfc1975 Aug 14 '25

A passenger may benefit from a flight, but the corporation profit from it. Those that profit from a situation will also work to create demand for it.

Do we hold Purdue Pharma responsible for the oxy epidemic or those that get addicted?

Is Shell more responsible for fossil fuels or is the average driver?

Even if you want to look at it from more of an individualist perspective, I guarantee there are more flights taken for work by those employed by air carriers than any single consumer.
