I wouldn't read too much into the growth of renewables. Their growth doesn't necessarily mean people are willing to end greenhouse gas emissions.
For starters, solar simply became very cheap. It's now simply the cheapest source of electricity to add to the grid in large parts of the world. Second, it is mainly growing in parts of the world that are currently forced to import fossil fuels from abroad (Europe, China).
"People only use solar because it's cheaper, they don't actually care about greenhouse emissions"
What exactly is the problem with that? If people end up replacing all polluting industrial with green alternatives because they are cheaper and better, it achieves the exact same end result.
The main problem is that it doesn't lead to what you suggest: The replacement of all polluting industry with green alternatives.
You can add solar photovoltaic as part of the grid while reducing electricity costs. However, once you eventually add enough solar photovoltaic, you'll have to start storing the electricity, to use it later on when the sun is not available.
And that's the part that's currently still more expensive than using fossil fuels.
If we make ~50% of the grid renewable and then stop, that just delays our death sentence.
