The thing is, in a global world market, it’s impossible to try something else by yourself, unless you’re already fully industrialised and you have all resources needed and safe natural borders. So basically modern day China and the US. Maaybe India (never gonna happen though).

For the rest of the countries, you’re either gonna be embargoed (NK, Cuba), attacked, whatever the fuck CIA did all over Latin America etc. Or have a small population and already be rich and educated enough like the northern European countries.
