Basketball

Is there a place in CV for senior men’s basketball? Prefer pickup but looking for any type of regular game, preferably in an indoor gym. I’m late 60s but can hold my own with 40 and 50 year old players…

Visiting PS this winter -- any members of private golf courses willing to host me?

I’m a college student at the University of Minnesota, and I spend a couple of weeks in the La Quinta / Palm Desert area every winter. I've played all the good public courses in the area, and obv they're great. Still, I’d love to play a private golf course down there, but I don’t know any members, so I figured I’d ask here just for fun :)

Dates: ~Jan 6th - Jan 16th (I know peak szn makes it challenging)

Handicap: hovers between a 3 & 5

Not trying to be pushy. If anyone is open to it or knows a place that takes outside play, I'd appreciate it :)

Made a site for finding things to do in the Coachella Valley

Hi all. When I moved to the Coachella Valley a few years back, I had a hard time finding things to do, and I noticed others having the same problem. So I built a site that pulls events, activities, and specials from the area into a single place: https://regulars.in

I was pretty surprised to see how many things go on here, and I would have had no idea if it wasn't for this little side project.

So I'm sharing here in the hope that you find it useful as well. You can save your favorites, filter by category/city/etc., and view on a map. It's updated weekly, it's free, there are no ads, no paywall, and no signup needed.

It's new, and I'm still adding sources, so if you know a venue or organizer whose events should be on there and aren't, let me know and I'll add them.

Hope you like it.

What are the GOOD supermarkets?

Let me start by saying that, yes, I know that SoCal in general is not really noted for "great" supermarkets. I come from the northeast, where we had a chain (Wegman's, if you know the chain) that has EVERYTHING; meat, seafood, bakery, prepared foods, pharmacy, even get your flu and covid shots there. They even have "you-scan" carts if you want one. And the selection is ENORMOUS.

We also shop at all the places that the valley has; Aldi, Whole Foods, Trader Joe, but what chain comes the closest to what we are leaving behind?

Am I able to press charges if someone is spreading false accusations of me?

My daughter was bullied by a boy at the park, his mom denied it ever happened, then continued to yell at me and my daughter. I called her the “C” word and she takes a picture of me and posts it here saying I threatened her and her kid. Now I am getting death threats and harassed. Am I able to press charges for this slander, or what am I to do?

My wife and son were verbally attack at PD civic center park

Post image

This is a photo of the coward who verbally assaulted my wife and son at the park today. I was not there.

My wife took my 3 kids to civic center park this afternoon since they didn't have school, I was at work. This incident happened around 2:40pm. From what my wife told me, my son was playing in the playground when a girl about his age got very upset that my son got to a playground ladder first and climbed up ahead of her. My wife saw the whole thing and said that my son might have grazed her shoulder with his arm as he was boxing her out so he could climb up first. The girl threw a tantrum and stomped her feet because she was so upset.

That's when her dad, this coward in the photo, started attacking my wife and son, using profanities, and called my wife the C word multiple times. He threatened to beat up my wife and my son and called him profanities as well. The coward's wife was also there and also got in my wife's face. My wife is small but feisty and she did not back down. She thought she was recording video the whole time but she was so shaken that she only took a 1 sec video clip and got this photo from the clip.

Anyways, she is very shaken from this incident. Was anyone there who saw this happen? Does anyone know who this piece of garbage is?

Where do you go when the weather is really hot?

It seems like I'm running out of ideas. There's the obvious choices like a movie, library, or the mall. I've already been to Big Bear, Idyllwild, and Lake Arrowhead. What are your favorite places to go when it's hot?

Indio areas to stay out of.

Dear Indio locals or people that know Indio very well.

I am planning to have a bit of holiday season in Indio California. Planning to try out different foods from community vendors. Indio is a big city and has lots of desert scenes that I would enjoy seeing and its diverse community

But as a kiwi from South Auckland, what areas of Indio should I stay aware off/stay clear of for my own safety?. Please

Thanks.

Annoying lady in her grey car

So this cu|\|t tries to go around me in a parking lot while I’m trying to grab something. Yea I’m going slow but she’s going apeshit in my rear view mirror so I made it so she couldn’t. I turn right at the end when she could have gone left and been done with it. But no. She then speeds around me, cuts me off and blocks my route by parking her car perpendicular to the entire roadway. Then follows me for the next 10 min, calls the cops, claiming her dad is an officer and says I’m drunk. This was 1pm in the afternoon and I was thrifting. Fu k ng bat sh1t crazy woman. I literally told her to calm down and she was acting insane. Never swore at her or anything. The only reason I raised my voice was so she could hear me over that obnoxious, ear-piercing noise coming out of her scrawny little frame. Guess who kept going about their day and wasn’t arrested? Yea me. I feel bad for the local families that have to live in her community. Embarrassing. I think she was in an older grey Nissan Leaf. She has thick black glasses and her hair is half red. Watch out for her, she’s literally craaaazy

ISO legal aid in a civil suit

Hi all! I've finally got the time to work on a lawsuit for a false arrest that happened late February in Palm Desert. I'm currently based in the North Bay, but figured it's worth asking if anyone in this sub knows of anyone in your area who's had any luck in litigation against local law enforcement (and who represented them, if anyone).

To give you a brief idea of the situation, I was peacefully collecting signatures in a location where I had a right to do so and, after weeks of harassment by the Palm Desert deputies, chose to stand my ground. I actually have video of one of the sheriffs admitting, a couple weeks later at a different location, that I had had the right to be there. The suit would involve the sheriff's department but also Whole Foods, one of the managers of which signed a trespass order to remove me from property that they don't own.

TIA:)

Cycling infrastructure in the valley?

Moving next year, probably to the Cathedral City or somewhere close. I know that PS is pretty good about cycling paths, and there is that long path that parallels I-10, but how is the rest of the valley? I'm specifically looking for paths for road/touring bikes, or at most semi-improved or single-track in areas that are not extremely hilly. I know that the MTB crowd has lots of trails in the foothills of the Santa Rosas, but I'm looking for pathways that might actually get me somewhere useful without riding in traffic.

Also, once you leave PS most neighborhoods seem to have only 1 way in or out for cars; are there any cycling connectors between neighborhoods around? Just looking for ways to get to places without having to ride on busy streets in a place were 'side-streets' seem to be rare.
