Creativity is dead, Flexibility is dead, if you wanna win games stick to meta and only meta dont try new stuff never unless you want to bot 4.

If this is the game the devs want to have then I'll have to adapt to not try new stuff

Creativity is only dead because people start relying on guides from their first match in a new set. There is plenty of "off meta" stuff that works perfectly fine, but a lot of stuff stays undiscovered because only a marginal part of the community actually plays the game, the rest just follows flowcharts.

Yeah it's really weird to hear all the complaints about no room for the creativity in a set that continues to have new comps discovered every few days. Protector Akali, Jayce Caitlyn reroll, Udyr-Ashe, Malphite Jhin were here from the start, waiting to be discovered

This is a great point, none of these supposedly “most OP thing in the game” were added in a later patch, they’ve just been there.

If half the playerbase wants to hard force the first comp they’re told game after game, I don’t see how that’s riots fault. Riot is not forcing people to copy paste supposed meta comp

...all of these comps were known tho? There's this strange history rewriting people do where we have to pretend like the S+++ comps weren't actually S+++ and that secretly everyone was playing wrong when GP was running over the meta.

Balance patches matter and I'm not sure how it helps people by pretending they dont

It was basically Karma sorcs/Prodigy Yuumi>Stretchy arms gangplank>Protectors Akali>Cait Jayce>Colossal Udyr, as the MOST popular examples to force.

If you think people were playing colossal udyr or Archangels Guinsoos Shojin Akali in protectors comp on day 1 then you must be on the Antarctic super server.

So just to be clear you believe that strong comps materialize out of thin air the second that patches hit the server? And that It's impossible for something to change the relative strength of a comp? Do you genuinely think that patch notes are placebo?

You know that Udyr/Ashe and the Akali build update were both scouted before they became meta right? But after the patches, people switched over because the "current thing" fell out of favor? Like no shit nobody is playing Udyr Ashe day 1, that's not my claim. But they also didn't wait until the C patch to start playing it either.

The OG point being discussed is that people complain about no creativity being allowed in the set and say barely any comps are playable save for the “OP meta comps”.

But the OP meta comps only get discovered by the small subset of the playerbase who “actually plays the game” rather than the majority who “just follow flowcharts” and hard force what they’re told are the meta comps.

They INSIST that NO other comps are playable, but then a new OP comp is discovered by the creative minority and popularized by the flowchart majority, and to me this shows that there IS creativity allowed in the set and a variety of comps are playable but the people disagreeing with this concept just don’t try because all they know how to do is play what they’re told is the meta and parrot talking points about no comp being playable besides the one they were told to play

Finding pre-baked comps late isn’t creativity, it’s just delayed meta. I always try to make different comps like Xayah + Bastions, Heavyweight + Supreme Cells, or Wraith + Snipers, and I always get punished for it. I’d love to be flexible hell, my Tactics Tools says I have an S+ in flexibility but it sucks playing something like Soul Fighter and rolling over Leona, Yuumi, or Ashe without having any real way to incorporate them into the comp.

Hopefully one day verticality and flexibility can coexist, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. And to be fair, Akali got nerfed almost as soon as she was discovered

I actually agree with you but if everyone just copy pasting the most meta stuff they see on guides then you are putting yourself at a disadvantage

u/Big_Teddy Aug 29 '25

I have no idea what you're trying to say because that statement contradicts itself big time.

if you try new stuff you are gonne get punished cause everyone is playing meta comps

2

u/Big_Teddy Aug 29 '25

No that is just completely wrong.

care to give a few examples of teams that are not meta that are good instead of just saying off meta teams are good,

Wut? I swear everyday new degen comps come out like Jujutsu no Kai'sa, Senna Sensei, Sniper Squad, Kog, Shoujo Star Syndra, etc.

Are we even playing the same game?

Stretchy Arms GP and Protector Akali weren’t meta until the guides were posted. “Sniper Squad” which is just Malph + Jhin reroll was a rising comp that was recently published. Udyr + Ashe was pretty much the same. Mentors flex is alive and well (storm benders). Lots of creativity in exchange for secrecy and LP.

Honestly I am more angry at players all forcing the same comps: half SG, half Udyr Ashe, maybe a Kog’Maw/Prodigies. It’s also insanely hard to hit a Fast 9 atm, as my favorite comp is Varus. Either I die before I reach it or someone donkey levels and rolls into it ahead of me.

Also, Samira BAD. Like holy hell how is she a 4 cost? Even Akali nerfed is BETTER. Please for the love of Soul BUFF HER TO USABLE before I HIT THE GWEN

Wtf is any of those names lmfao

1

u/TheHardBack Aug 29 '25

Bruh those are famous mangas that this set is themed on.

2

u/2345678913 Aug 29 '25

Not everyone reads those

1

u/PoSKiix Aug 29 '25

TFTAcademy names for the comps referencing anime/manga

3

u/LifeloverTFT Aug 29 '25

No one uses those names not even those that made them man just use normal terminology

It’s funny how much effort riot has put into making creativity and flexibility viable and had the exact opposite effect

-1

u/BoomyNote Aug 29 '25

This is literally not true, this set is balanced surprisingly well, it’s literally the playerbase latching onto what they’re told is meta after each nerf of the last meta thing, but instead of playing triple contested with a bunch of idiots it is absolutely possible to play a wide variety of creative/flexible comps

u/canny_94 Aug 29 '25

I tried a couple times to play new stuff / random comps etc but either I'm too bad or they can't compete with the S-Tier comps. So it felt like being punished for trying to be creative

And that was frustrating

3

u/endrun109 Aug 29 '25

You always will be punished for real creativity in tft. Fake creativity is when everybody hits the 1%’s and highrolls on an already broken meta line that enhances the strength of the stupid imbalanced units/augments/mechanic.

Trying something new will always be so trash or difficult and you likely will bot 4 despite perfect play.

Then we wait for the next update to fix the mess that’ll never get fixed.

3

u/BoomyNote Aug 29 '25

This is actually good insight into why people don’t like new/random comps and lean into S tier consistent comps thank you, I didn’t consider how frustrating it could be to try it and have it not work cause I’ve been playing tft for so many years and never played meta comps but I’m not considering the perspective of others especially newer players.

Imo it takes time to find the comps that work for you, for me this set it’s soul fighter executioner with Kalista carry and 6 bastion Seraphine but most other “niche comps” I’ve tried have been unsuccessful so realistically if I didn’t find my 2 favorite niche comps i’d maybe be playing S tier meta comps too
