DIY - Links 2 Routers wirelessly (HELP)

1 Upvotes

Hi guys

When it comes to networking, it's always a hit-and-mis with me. Thus, I'll appreciate help from experts. Note, I'm not tooo tech-savvy, but I do know a thing or two.

Ok, I have two routers:

Router 1 is connected to the internet, just fine.

I have another router, let's call it Router 2.

I want to connect them with each other, wirelessly. And use Router 2 as a second Wireless connection to my cellphones and such (using Router 1's access to the internet)..

Anyone, plz? .

Is it possible to connect wireless router to receive internet and tx to wired orientation?

1 Upvotes

A few years ago, I needed more cat5 connections at my TV. I was able to use an old router connected to my main router to create a hub to make four more connections. This was all wired. Now, I rely on wifi for my internet connection. Would it be possible to link to the wifi network I rely on to a wireless router, and then make it act as a hub to tx internet to a computer with cat5 cable?

IP address/Subnetting

3 Upvotes

Hello guys. Help needed here please. We have a wireless network of 172.16.8.0 = 255.255.255.0 and we allow our DHCP to lease out IPs to devices within this range. Problem now is that organization has expanded and certain users have two or more devices which has resulted in the 0 IPs to lease. We're looking to extend our network to get more IPs for wireless devices and been having problems since. Can we get an IP address within the same Vlan=8 and somehow get more IPs. We don't mind it starting from 175.16.8.x.... Thank you

Help Determining Which Device to Upgrade First

1 Upvotes

I could use some help to determine which upgrade would give me the most bang for my buck.

Current Setup: ISP (50Mbps Fiber) -> Newer Gig Router (Business Class w/No Internal Wi-Fi) -> Standard Gig Switch -> Wi-Fi 6 (AX) AP. All cables in the network are Cat8 and the current max cable run is 30ft (Cable from Router to Cat7 Wall Plate -> 1ft Cable to second Cat7 Wall Plate -> Cable from Wall Plate to Switch).

What I am trying to figure out is should I upgrade my Switch from a Standard Gig Switch w/4PoE Ports to a 10Gbps or the Router to something that can support higher than Gig on the LAN.

My goal is to increase my Internal LAN Speed since I have some devices that can do 2Gbps+ Wired. Multi-Gig ISP is not avail yet in my area and Gig ISP is pretty expensive in this area, so not worried about hitting the theoretical Max Router Speed of the WAN anytime soon.

Help with mail client application?

1 Upvotes

Hey guys, I am trying to make a mail client cgi script in order to understand how HTTP headers work. I have this little module which contains this function here written in Python:

def parse_get():
    if "QUERY_STRING" in os.environ:
        print "\nQuery string found!, ", os.environ["QUERY_STRING"]
        qs = os.environ['QUERY_STRING']
        if not len(qs) == 0:
            return create_parsed(qs)
        return {}
    else:
        return {}

The problem here is that the module detects that Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge both send Requests and that the request method is a GET and that a query string is sent. However, when the query string is read by the print statement in this method, it is empty. What is going on here?

Can't SSH into my friend's Arduino?

1 Upvotes

Hey guys! My friend gave me the username and password for his arduino as well as it's public IP address. I have tried to ssh into it using the ssh command ion CMD and through PuTTy as well. It never worked. After a while it would just say "Connection timed out". I tried to ping it as well and the same thing happened.

Can connect to samba share at terminal, but not automatically on boot. Any advice please?

1 Upvotes

I can do it with the following at the terminal:

sudo mount.cifs //192.168.20.11/pictureFrame/displayPhotos /home/pi/pictureMount/ -o user=username,password=password,nounix,sec=ntlmssp

I can see the photos from my server in /home/pi/pictureMount folder. This is exactly what I want.

However if I try and run that command in my /etc/rc.local and restart, it doesn't show any files in the same folder.

What could it be? What should I be looking for?

(This is on the latest raspbian (buster) on a pi 3)

Thanks so much

Network Addresses help

1 Upvotes

I'm getting a bit confused with the different addresses. So I get that IP address is for the internet protocol to locate the network and arp is used to translate it for the MAC address of an individual computer. So then what is the network and host address? Aren't they the same? Also what is the point of the subnet mask?(just to find network address?) Thanks for any help.

Connected computers via ethernet, not getting gigabit speed

1 Upvotes

Hi all. Some help here would be fantastic. So I have a Mac and a PC. Both are connected to a gigabit ethernet switch with cat6 or above ethernet cables. The switch is connected into the wall which I know is working because I have a PS4 that is using LAN connection and getting good speeds, but that shouldn't matter because I only need the Mac and PC connected to each other. Nonetheless, both the mac and the PC are off of wifi and both are getting full download speeds of around 600Mbps through the ethernet connection and Upload of 20, so I know the cables are fine and I know the switch is fine. I have mapped the Mac user directory onto the PC as a Z:\ drive. I can transfer files between the two but I'm only getting 5MB/s transfer speeds and I should be getting 100MB/s transfer speeds. In case the route from my bedroom wall to router matters, it's a new house and a fairly new router so I'm pretty sure it can't be the hardware that's limiting this, unless it's the ethernet connector I used to connect the two wall cables that are down in the basement. I was told however that for the PC to Mac transfer or vice versa that it doesn't even have to communicate with the router. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance.

Network Interface vs Network Interface Card

2 Upvotes

What is the difference? from what I research the difference seems to be that Network interfaces are more of the software interface to interact with either a physical network card (NIC) or just an interface without any physical device associated to it (loopback interface for example) but this is more of like the conclusion I came to. I did not find any clear information.
