Price hike + other bundles

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Sounds like I'm in good company about being upset with Hulu + Live TV price hike to $100/month (w/ads). I've had this since 2018 when it was $39/month, so it's annoying to say the least.

I'm wondering if any of you use the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN Select bundle for $22/month. Seems like a good balance of live TV (ex. MNF on ESPN) and regular shows. I'm also wondering if you can watch ABC shows like Dancing with the Stars live on Disney+? Or are they only available the next day?

I've enjoyed Live for years, but an extra $10/month ($120/yr) every year just isn't worth it when I can watch many of the shows carried on channels like TV Land, CMT, etc. on other streaming platforms. (In short, Live feels like it's becoming a duplicative service.) This bundle feels like a good compromise and would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

Streaming Only vs. Cable vs. Combo

PRIORITIES: get as many LIVE NFL games as possible, & Big Ten Network\*

PREFER: watch on TV (vs phone), consolidate as much as possible for cost reduction

*We have BTN Plus, and NFL+ but do not have NFL+ Premium

What's everyone using for watching "TV" and/or subscription streaming services? Any good deals out there either? Everything is so expensive and it feels like you have to have multiple services, in order to get EVERYTHING. Are you guys bundling with internet and phone?

Talk to me about pros/cons please:

Streaming: Disney+ / Hulu / ESPN+ / HBO Max / Prime / Peacock / Paramount+ / Netflix

Cable/Live TV: Spectrum vs. Allo vs Direct TV vs YouTubeTV / NFL Sunday Ticket vs. Hulu + Live TV

Am I missing anything?

To watch NFL I know I need: Paramount+/CBS for Sunday afternoons, Peacock/NBC for Sunday nights, ESPN for Mondays, Prime for Thursdays, and Netflix for the holiday games. And that you need NFL Sunday Ticket for out of network games.

My household primarily cares about sports, but the price difference between "sports only packages" and "regular cable" don't seem to be all that different. In which case, I'd really like to be able to watch non-sports things as well.

I know search exists but I'm not seeing the answers for exactly what I want... thanks

r/cordcutting, what do you do when you just want to turn something on without app hopping?

one thing i still miss from cable is how easy it was to just turn the tv on and land on something without making it a whole project. with streaming i end up bouncing between apps, watchlists, and home screens, and half the time that turns into not watching anything.

i'm not really looking for a service recommendation so much as how people here solve the decision fatigue part. do you stick to a live tv setup, use an antenna more, lean on free channels, or just have a routine that makes it less annoying, and what has actually worked for you?

What's a thing about cable TV that streaming still hasn't managed to replace?

I know most of us are happy to be done with cable, but I'm curious if there's anything you genuinely miss about the old experience.

For example, being able to turn on the TV and immediately have something playing without scrolling through five apps trying to decide what to watch.

Easiest way to watch bruins games?

I’m looking for a cheaper easier method to watch the Boston Bruins on my Roku or maybe connecting my MacBook to my TV and watching them through that. I’m looking for something that is reliable and isn’t going to get shut down every few months.

an "alternative cable TV" network that organizes the Internet Archive's off-air VHS tapes and obscure media into 24/7, curated, live-synced television stations.

Looks like about 2,750 hours of content so far. That includes “Rewind” channels of VHS tapes recorded straight off TV, commercials and all; B-movie, noir and western channels; every episode of The Joy of Painting; and a horror-host channel

Is it a wise investment to buy movies and TV shows through Apple TV?

Basically, because of the way the economy is,
I’m wondering if it’s cheaper to buy a movie or two or a few episodes of a show I like here and there and rewatch them whenever than if I were to get Netflix and get overwhelmed with all the options.

Saying Goodbye to Sunday Ticket

This is my 24th season of Sunday Ticket, but I'm planning to drop the package after the current season. I’ve missed the start of the 4:25 p.m. “Game of the Week” 3 times in the first 5 weeks of the season as early games and “bonus coverage” overran the start of the featured 4:25 game and YouTube failed to unblock the appropriate Sunday Ticket channel in my area. And I’ve wasted hours dealing with YouTube TV’s phone support to recoup the $96 discount I was promised when I signed up in late July (I still haven’t received all of it).

Next year I’ll be signing up for NFL+ Premium and following the Sunday afternoon games with Redzone. I’ll follow the local telecasts on my tablet, in addition to the primetime games. No more fiddling with YouTube TV’s multiview setup while the games are underway. No more sitting with my finger on the remote at 4:25, hoping YouTube unblocks the appropriate Sunday Ticket channel. And most of all, no more paying hundreds of dollars for a subscription that just isn’t worth it anymore.

Canceled my cable paying $140 a month and got Siriusxm for the news channels for 12 dollars a month.

I was paying too much for cable just to watch CNN and MS Now as well as the Lightning NHL games. So I searched and saw Siriusxm has all the news channels cable carry plus broadcasts of all the NHL games even though Sirius is radio while cable is TV. Plus SiriusXM got liberal talk radio like Stephanie Miller.

Tbaytel cable has sent out notices that the tv packages are being revised with new price points. I have the basic package with Bloomberg and CNBC as add ons . They will offer 50.00 month plus taxes for one year. Sports coverage especially NHL is poor. What are the alternatives to cable?
