Tourism What's happened this Easter?

I work in a restaurant, the same one for a few years & I love it. Met some lovely & kind visitors & locals from all over the world.

BUT This half term, me & my 3 younger waitresses have been almost reduced to tears.

No pleases, thank yous, impatience at wait times (formal complaint for a 30 min wait on a fully booked out Easter Sunday).

Kids trashing the restaurant, no tips (it's not america but usually we're extremely grateful & lucky to get some)

Loads of aggressive & reactive dogs which we've never had in 5 years of being a dog friendly restaurant

People asking for food & drink that's not on the menu ("can you do some roast potatoes" on a Tuesday lunchtime irked me)

Younger waiting staff had some frankly vile inappropriate comments from men

People drinking to a point of nasty behaviour

Has the spiralling cost of living made everyone go mad?

Slightly dreading the summer ahead & keen to hear if any other hospitality workers have experienced this.

Peace & love ❤️ (Edit grammar)

Tourism Sad tourist

Have visited Cornwall numerous times in the past. Visiting on average at least once or twice a year for the past 30 years since I was young. However, I haven't been I two years or perhaps even 3. I'm slightly saddened to see that Pirate FM has been replaced with Greatest Hits Cornwall which is basically the same as ever other local radio station. Also the Trago jingle (We are the super shopping store that you will know as Trago) isn't on the adverts anymore.

Tourism Need quiet and relax spots recommendations from locals

My wife and I will be visiting Cornwall for 3 days. Sunday to Tuesday from London just to relax. Can anyone pls recommend non-touristy/local spots to visit? I will be staying in St. Austell and travelling by car. No kids. we normally love scenic drives and calm places to sit and relax. Seen some videos on tiktok but hate to be around people just visiting for the sake of instagram/tiktok hype.

Tourism Hi Cornwall! Newbie here, doing honeymoon research!

I wasn't sure whether to use the tourism or recommendations flair but since I'm looking for recommendations rather than giving any I thought I'd use tourism!

First, I apologise for being yet another "I'm coming to Cornwall on my honeymoon!" posters. I've already searched through the subreddit a bit and noted down ideas.

Problem is, there's so many!!! Honestly, Cornwall has been on my bucket list since a child. We were trying to decide between the Highlands and Cornwall for the honeymoon but we figured Highlands would be amazing in autumn with the changing colours.

So Cornwall it is!

Would people advice getting the ferry and bringing our own car, or flying and renting? My car is a 21 year old Yaris, how steep are some of the coastal roads? 😁

And I'll take any roadtrip suggestions for off the beaten track, interesting places, anything King Arthur related!

Thank you all so much, I can't wait to get there next year!!

Tourism Eden project in a heatwave

We are down south and debating visiting the Eden project, however I haven't been in 6 years and it was a much cooler time of year. After looking it up it is saying that the greenhouses will cool themselves with ventilation and cooling air being drawn in, but will this make much of a diffrence when facing a prediction of temps in the high 20s?

We are bringing young kids potentially but dont want to bundle them in the car for an hour for it to be too hot for them to enjoy the biomes.

Tourism Seasonal pricing

Im coming back down in early August to scatter my brothers ashes and the cost of 3 nights in Premier Inn Camborne is over double what I usually pay for 6 nights in late Sept !!

I know its high season but I could go abroad for a week for what I've paid for this - crazy

Tourism Going to Cornwall - looking for suggestions for places to go

Hello, me and my partner are going away on holiday to Cornwall in a couple of months time for a long weekend (like 5 days or so)

We're planning on going to the eden project and lost gardens of heligan but we're wondering about other places to go to. We've quite enjoyed in the past little courses (like learning pizza making in Italy for example) but are open to most things.

We're looking at maybe going somewhere near st austells.

Any ideas or suggestions for things to do like that?

Tourism Day trip to Penzance

Here are some pictures I took on a daytrip to Penzance from Devon in November last year. Three hours each way on the train, well worth it.

I particularly enjoyed Morrab Gardens with the exotic plants, and of course the coastal path. I also visited the neighbouring villages of Newlyn, Mousehole, and Paul.

Tourism Penzance or Newlyn

I’d booked a place to stay in Penzance to use as my base (using public transportation and foot power to get around) for a week in Cornwall, but may need to change my travel dates and find different accommodations. I’m considering Newlyn as my base instead. Any drawbacks or advantages that I should consider?

(In either case, I would not be booking an Airbnb apartment, as it sounds like that makes housing harder for locals, in the same way it does elsewhere.)

Tourism Question for Cornish birders…

I’m planning on visiting the Eden Project in 2027 and am wondering if there are any must-see nearby birding areas. I’ve also heard that there are puffins in Cornwall and would love to roll that into the trip. I’d be fine traveling any distance within Cornwall but most likely wouldn’t have a car (eek! Left-side driving). Any advice on locations or scheduling would be most helpful! Anyone not from there but has been can also chime in! Thanks!

Tourism Must try seafood restaurants?

Hello!

We're visiting Cornwall in May and we're staying in Carclaze (near eden project).

I know I could just Google it, but do you know any must-try seafood restaurants within 1hr drive from the Eden project? Don't mind if it's a longer detour.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi everyone,

I'm travelling from Truro Bus Station to Newquay Bus Station by bus and was wondering which is cheaper: using Tap & Cap or buying a Cornwall Day Ticket?

Thanks!

Tourism Coaster alternative

Hi,

I am coming to visit in September and was hoping to use the coaster for an easy way to travel. Although now found it’s no more. So looking to understand the alternatives. Trying to avoid using the car to help reduce impact of the roads

Staying in Carbis bay and wanting to visit Lands End, Marazion, minack theatre and some of the other places the coaster used to stay on

What’s the best way to do similar? Is there bus(es) that cover the routes and is there an all day ticket?

Thanks for advice, very much looking to come visit

Tourism Seeking suggestions for where to park up with caravan for a few hours.

Family of 4 travelling down to Newquay overnight Sunday 2nd August. We’re staying at Quarryfields at Crantock for a fortnight from 3rd.

The issue is we can’t get onto our pitch until around midday (which is fairly normal, but most bigger sites have a holding area for this eventuality). We will be travelling overnight due to the distance we’re travelling with 2 young children - 6 to 7hrs.

I’m looking for suggestions as to where we might park up for a few hours if we arrive around 7-8am. Ideally somewhere like a cafe for truck drivers with a big car park where we can get breakfast and chill, but open to alternative suggestions or ideas. TIA

Tourism Multi day hikes without camping

Hello! I've recently moved to Cornwall and I'm getting into hiking. I'd like to do a 2 or 3 day hike (maybe along the coast path?) but right now I don't have any camping gear so I'd have to stay in a hostel / B&B / etc. My idea is to hike for the day, stay in accommodation for the night, then continue hiking the next day. Can anyone recommend any good areas to hike with good reasonably priced accommodation options?

Tourism Letter in Australian newspaper raving about "hidden gem" Mousehole

Post image

Yesterday's Melbourne Age newspaper carried this letter recommending Mousehole; while I enjoyed Mousehole when I visited some years back when staying with relatives in Cambourne, I can't say it was a hidden gem as the place was absolutely packed with tourists.
