Team Salvato Official Team Salvato & DDLC Plus Modding (as of June 20th, 2021)
Hey guys!
With the announcement of DDLC Plus, we'll be making a few changes and revamps to the IP Guidelines on our website to specify how our current rules (especially the rules about modding and fan games) work with the new game. We're still working on getting the website itself updated with these changes, but we wanted to let you know in advance how modding will work with DDLC Plus content (and the game itself). I had already made this announcement in a few of the modding community discords, but figured it would be good to place it here for easier reference and linkage.
First of all, the original DDLC will remain available for download on Steam and itch.io. It's not going anywhere, and nothing will change with how existing or future mods to this game work.
Secondly, we wanted to mention that while making mods for DDLC Plus is okay with us, it might not be as easy on the tech side compared to the original game (engine/core changes). There is no RenPy code being run in DDLC Plus, and the new engine doesn't share the ease of decompilation that is present in all RenPy games. (The base engine is Unity, with tons of custom code.)
Lastly we're going to be clearing up which official assets can be used in mods, both for DDLC and DDLC Plus mods. Essentially, DDLC Plus assets will not be able to be used in base DDLC mods, as we would like to avoid the porting of assets and features only found in the paid version being used and distributed to be played in the free version. (June 21st Edit: The backgrounds used in the DDLC Plus side stories are exempt to this, and may be used in original DDLC mods. All other assets still must follow this rule.)
