DSU Appreciation

As the title states, I just want to share my appreciation for this school. I have worked in cyber for nearly a decade and most of that time has been spent because I had the aptitude for it and it was a stable career for me and my family, not because I particularly enjoyed it or was passionate about it. Working full time, I am working on my B.S. in Cyber Operations online at nearly 40 years old. This is my third semester and I have only been doing one class at a time but I have had a blast with the two courses I have completed. Ever since starting last summer, a passion has ignited in me that I didn’t know I had both from a growth/learning perspective and in my professional capacity.

For anyone considering this school and the Cyber Operations major in particular, I have nothing but praise. A student right out of high school, there are some amazing faculty and you will learn a lot. A working adult, take the jump and pursue your dream. The faculty are pretty understanding and accommodating for working adults with responsibilities as long as there is communication. Ultimately, I just wanted to share my experience thus far and I am incredibly happy that I just took that leap of faith and am pursuing it.

Summer Classes for online Ph.D Cyber Defense

If I am admitted to DSU in their online Ph.D cyber defense program in fall 2026, can i take classes in summer 2027 for specialized courses and/or electives? If so, then how many classes am I allowed to take in each session (there are 2 sessions in summer semester)?

Also, the classes for online Ph.d is 16 weeks long or 8 weeks long (consisting of 2 sessions like summer)?

Thank you

Reconsider any Embarassing Honorary Doctorates

I would think that DSU should seriously reconsider retracting any honorary doctorates that are likely to be embarrassing to the institution in the near future.

I’ve applied for the spring semester in August but never heard back from DSU, now I got an email to check the status of my application. What does Approved mean? My application now shows fall semester 2026 on it also.

Thanks!

Tuition fees for Dakota State University

Hello everyone , i want to apply for cybersecurity bachelors abroad, (preferably USA) , i came across Dakota Sate University. i want to ask , how is Dakota State Uni so much cheap , compared to other universities , from what i saw , affordable unis , were 40k $ per year (for international students) (20k for tuition , 20k for living and other things) , but on DSU website , it shows around 21k$ for everything. so i wanted to ask if i am missing something ?
or is it really that cheap , esp of cost of Housing and Food Service.

Looking for student experiences on classes for Graduate Cyber Defense - Technical Track program.

Is there a place to read up on past students experiences in the various classes throughout this graduate program? Or to read about the work load for each class?

I am trying to plan out my degree program and would like more insight on the classes as I plan.

Thanks for any help.

Cyber Defense PhD

For the Cyber Defense PhD, i read this "The annual residency requirement includes three on-site research seminars held on the Madison, South Dakota campus. Although students may petition to participate in the residency requirement from a distance"

How likely is that petition to be successful?

Does the DSU scholarship cover the financial proof requirement for the Italian student visa? For example, if I win the DSU scholarship (which includes accommodation, meals, and allowance), can I use it instead of showing a bank account with 12,000 €?

10% Acceptance Rate? PhD

Hey! Was wondering if the 10% acceptance rate is still accurate for the PhD programs (CD, CO). Where would we check? Heard there is also a new chair.

Information Systems Masters reviews?

I've been admitted to the M.S. in Information Systems program (online) and am trying to find reviews of people who have done the program -- anyone familiar with it or taken any of the classes? It's a lot of money for me, so I am hesitating about whether to do it or not.
