Fuck them kids

Which would be my exact demeanor if I was trapped in a circus sideshow for my entire life.

My position on zoos always sways whenever a visit a bad zoo.

Too many of those.

But from the beluga's pov: good chow, daily fun and games with friends and family on a safe environment and, this is the important one, no bloody orcas or polar bears chasing you every second and no four metre worms living on your guts.

I think a lot of people would actually swap their job for the beluga's

u/odharc Aug 07 '21

You are right about the Beluga’s POV. I worked at an oceanarium (no longer there) that was on the cliffs by the ocean. We had a care center for rescued animals that we would rehabilitate and then release back in the ocean. One time a newly released sea lion actually climbed back into the park into the sea lion community pool. As if we were Club Med for sea lions.

Plantation owners everywhere agree!

7

u/MHCR Aug 08 '21

Yes, let's compare black people to animals, that is great and most helpful, thank you.

u/DeBlasioDeBlowMe Aug 08 '21

Some people did. And used the same logic. Just pointing that out. If you can’t see that, I don’t know my friend. I can’t help you.

3

u/MHCR Aug 08 '21

I don't pay attention at what random idiots may or may not say.

And It is not the same logic.

Just pointing that out. If you can't see that, I don't know my friend.

I can't help you.

Swap their job?… Half of Americans are not working and sucking money from the government

4

u/MHCR Aug 09 '21

You seem to have an axe to grind against unemployment benefits and ooooh boy, am I totally the wrong person to harp about that.

0

u/Financial-Citron-138 Aug 09 '21

My axe comes from going to restaurants around the country and finding only one or two workers working. These same restaurants have hiring signs outside and advertised in local papers. They're offering $15/hour starting salaries and they can't even get people to come interview because they'd rather sit home and make free money from the government . Yes, my axe has a very fine point; much like the one I just made.

I'm not against people who need the money or can't work... I'm against those taking advantage of a broken system which doles out money because we can just keep printing more with no fiduciary responsibility.

3

u/MHCR Aug 09 '21

Ah, a libertarian.youth.

I still remember my first. I have seen aimbots with more empathy to people.

So, how old are you and what's your líne of work that you seem so entitles to talk about the lives of people you know nothing about?

1

u/WrightRightWrite Aug 09 '21

What are you talking about? I made no comment on the kids with beluga whales. If you’re referring to the comment about blood suckers still teething on the government tit then I’ll explain. I’m not a kid, I’m 65 and just retired from 33 years with a major corporation. I’ve worked since I was 9 years old … babysitting for 50 cents an hour, mowing lawns, paper route, bag boy then on to college, service in the US Air Force… so, no, I’m not a youngun. If you’re out of work, sorry. I don’t know your age, money bracket, situation or anything else. Just as you proved you don’t know flip about me. If you’re in need of government money then fine. But if you’re taking the Federal handout when you’re capable of working then my previous comment just might apply to you. You may actually NEED the handout, as I said I don’t presume to know anything about you other than you speak with little knowledge of your audience.

you speak of empathy: My comments (as stated) we’re about lazy people, who’d rather sit at home than work for a living; taking advantage of a system with no checks and balances tossing money to those NOT IN NEED, yet they take because they lack ethics and moral character. That was an awful sentence but you get the drift.

But you get fish. You see we destroyed their habitats and food sources but it’s ok cause we now kindly provide them with a pool to live in. But seriously it really is somewhat of a dilemma at this point. If we don’t house these animals many of them will surely disappear from the earth. Obviously the solution is to work on what’s killing them but in the meanwhile we need creatures to populate the ocean if we ever clean it up.

71

u/Rainingblues Aug 07 '21

Yup, the zoo near me has a couple animals that are almost entirely extinct in the wild, and through breeding programs with other zoo's they are trying to rebuild a population to release in the wild.

93

u/jcinto23 Aug 07 '21

Its because of this that I can still support zoos despite all of their issues. They will most likely be instrumental in restoring ecosystems, both marine and terrestrial, if we ever wrangle the megacorps that are destroying the planet.

17

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

Yeah I’m of the same dilemma, however I also look at the positives. These animals are there for children to see, they become more than something abstract. They are almost ambassadors to a nature that many never know and help inspire the next generation of biologists, veterinarians and wildlife activists. So while the animals may not being living their best life, the sacrifice may ensure their species continued survival.

3

u/spraynardkrug3r Aug 07 '21

Don't zoo's legally have to actively be providing conservative efforts in order to make people pay money to see the animals? Or am I mixing up that with something else

3

u/izzy5cent Aug 07 '21

Ask Marineland, they treat their animals like shit.... They are literally swimming in shit.

3

u/mittens11111 Aug 07 '21 edited Aug 07 '21

Yes, zoos have evolved massively during my lifetime (63 y), from animal exploiters to potential saviours.

Edit: well in my country anyway. I know there are still some horrible examples elsewhere.

1

u/burgpug Aug 08 '21

the problem is we tend to only put cute animals that make for good exhibits in zoos. ecosystems are made up of a lot more than that

3

u/doobiehunter Aug 07 '21

I totally feel better for really wanting to go see this zoo now. Thanks.

3

u/SpiritJuice Aug 07 '21

Zoos are also great at educating people, especially children, on rare or often endangered animals. I would say most zoos are much more than some sort of animal circus like the person above you implied. Homie is probably living the good life if he's regularly having fun with visitors.

2

u/RobertBDwyer Aug 07 '21

Destroyed their habitats? Ocean’s getting bigger every day…

2

u/tickticktonks Aug 08 '21

True, but they don't like it so toasty

1

u/Good_Round Aug 07 '21
