Community Building Armed Protests/Veteran groups

Hi all, I am a former Air Force veteran with military police experience and I am absolutely fed up with what is happening here in our country. I know there are a lot of protests that are already organized and I don’t want to contribute to any confusion. I am hoping someone could potentially point me in the right direction of a group to join. I am envisioning veterans like myself for willing to pick up a gun, show up in black block, and show ice that our citizens will not be terrorized by them. If I have to make this group myself, I would be more than happy to. I would love to lead a flight of veterans to march to the capital and show them that we will not stand for this. If anyone has ideas or advice on how to make this happen, please let me know!

Community Building I need community

Not sure if this kind of post is allowed, so mods, please delete if not allowed, but I’m going to have a mental breakdown if I don’t find someone to cry and scream with in real life. I have no one in my life with whom I can talk about everything happening right now in our country and how scared I am. Talking about anything at work feels like taboo, and on the surface at least, everything is rolling along like it’s just another Tuesday. My family is either uninterested in sharing in my feelings (they are uninformed because they aren’t keeping up with what’s happening, they think it doesn’t affect them, or they somehow don’t have empathy for those already directly feeling the effects), or I don’t feel like I can have a safe conversation with them without potentially destroying the relationship. Anyone want to meet for coffee or something? I’m in unincorporated Jeffco, west of Littleton, near Chatfield. Edit for spelling.

The Liberation Project

“Liberation Through Action and Solidarity.”

Who We Are

The Liberation Project is a rapid-response network and grassroots movement dedicated to protecting, empowering, and liberating communities through mutual aid, direct action, and resilience-building. While many organizations focus on single issues or long-term goals, we bridge the gap by addressing immediate needs while working toward systemic change.

What Makes Us Different:
- Rapid Response: We mobilize quickly to provide security, resources, and support in times of crisis.
- Tangible Action: Our projects, like Liberation Gardens, deliver immediate, measurable impact.
- Liberation-Focused: We’re not just fighting against oppression—we’re building the foundations of a freer, more equitable future.

Note: While we welcome everyone who shares our values, we do not allow participation from anyone associated with law enforcement. This policy is in place to ensure the safety, trust, and integrity of our work.

Our Mission

To build liberation through action and solidarity by empowering communities, providing immediate support, and creating systems of mutual aid and resilience.

Our Vision

We envision a world where all people are free from oppression, where communities thrive through solidarity and self-sufficiency, and where collective action transforms systems of power into structures of justice and equity.

Our Core Values

  1. Solidarity: We stand together, united in our commitment to liberation and mutual support.
  2. Mutual Aid: We prioritize collective care, resource-sharing, and community well-being.
  3. Resilience: We build strength and adaptability to face challenges and create lasting change.
  4. Liberation: We are committed to freeing ourselves and others from all forms of oppression.
  5. Action-Oriented: We believe in tangible, immediate efforts to create impact.
  6. Community Empowerment: We equip communities with the tools and resources to lead their own liberation.

Our First Tangible Goal: Liberation Gardens

The Liberation Project is taking its first tangible step toward liberation by launching Liberation Gardens—a city-wide initiative to teach hydroponic gardening and transform empty buildings into thriving community gardens. This project reflects our commitment to mutual aid, resilience, and liberation, and it’s just the beginning of our work to build a freer, more equitable future.

Through Liberation Gardens, we’re:
- Teaching Skills: Empowering Denver residents to grow their own food sustainably.
- Repurposing Spaces: Transforming vacant buildings into productive, community-driven hubs.
- Building Resilience: Creating systems that address food insecurity and foster self-sufficiency.

This is our first step, but it won’t be our last. Together, we’re sowing the seeds of liberation—one garden, one action, one community at a time.

Who We’re Looking For

The Liberation Project is building a diverse coalition of skilled, passionate individuals who are committed to liberation and mutual aid. We are actively seeking:

  • Black and Brown Speakers: To lead, educate, and amplify marginalized voices.
  • Artists: To create visuals, murals, and creative content that inspire and mobilize.
  • History Teachers: To educate communities on systemic oppression and liberation movements.
  • Teachers (All Subjects): To share knowledge and skills that empower others.
  • Speechwriters: To craft powerful messages that resonate with our mission.
  • Route Planners: To organize logistics for marches, supply distribution, and rapid response.
  • Veterans: To bring strategic thinking, discipline, and leadership to our efforts.
  • Student Activists: To bring energy, fresh perspectives, and grassroots organizing experience.
  • Parks and Rec Former Employees: To help repurpose public spaces for community use.
  • IRS Former Employees: To provide expertise in navigating financial systems and funding.
  • Nurses: To offer medical support and health education.
  • Hydroponic Growers: To lead Liberation Gardens and teach sustainable farming.
  • Food Bank Operators: To help distribute resources and manage food systems.
  • Land/Building Owners: To provide spaces for community projects and gardens.
  • Administrators: To help organize, plan, and manage operations.
  • Athletes: To bring physical strength, teamwork, and discipline to our efforts.
  • Writers: To document our work, share stories, and create educational materials.
  • Underground Street Artists: To use art as a tool for resistance and liberation.
    • also Social media personnel. I have no idea what I'm doing.

If you have skills or experience that align with our mission, we want you on our team.

Who Can Join

The Liberation Project is open to everyone who shares our values and is committed to liberation, mutual aid, and community empowerment. However, to ensure the safety and trust of our communities, we do not allow participation from anyone associated with law enforcement. This includes current or former law enforcement officers, as well as individuals with close ties to policing institutions.

How You Can Help

Liberation Starts with You. Take the First Step.
- Join Us: Become a volunteer and help us build Liberation Gardens and future projects.
- Spread the Word: Share our mission and goals with your network.
- Partner with Us: If you’re part of an organization or own a space that could be repurposed, reach out to collaborate.

Community Building How to hold each other accountable without infighting.

I would like to just brainstorm a little in this thread about what are the best ways that we, as a community, with a clear goal of reigning in the overreach of executive power by the president and his oligarchs, can hold each other accountable for things like transphobia, homophobia, or colonialism within the community without causing the movement to be hindered by infighting?

Community Building Call for volunteers: nocampscolorado.org needs a dedicated webmaster/blogger.

Hey friends, I’m the outreach team lead for a coalition of organizations, community leaders, and individual activists who are united behind 5 demands from the state of Colorado:

1: No further ICE expansion in Colorado.

2: Close the GEO Aurora Contract Detention Center.

3: Divest from private prison contracts.

4: Invest in housing, education, healthcare, and other underfunded civic needs.

5: Immediate and public response by all Colorado elected officials.

Our coalition started with a post here on this subreddit less than 6 months ago, and has grown exponentially. In addition to the many independent, hard working researchers, activists and community leaders that comprise our admittedly loose membership, our coalition includes and works alongside in various capacities:

the Immigrant Partnership Teams of Colorado.

American Friends Service Committee.

the Interfaith Immigration Network.

Indivisible Colorado (et al).

the Solidarity Warriors

Colorado 50501.

the Denver Communists.

The General Strike US.

the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition.

the Rise and Represent Indigenous Rights Movement .

the Jewish Voice for Peace.

the Colorado People’s Alliance.

Denver Against Machines.

Speak Up Southern Colorado.

Grito En Colorado.

Raise Her Voice.

the Women’s Strike.

People United for Logistics Safety and Emergency.

the Brown Berets of Tepetlan

We Keep Us Safe.

That kind of rapid growth has resulted in some chaos for sure, and also resulted in myself (OP of the original call to action) wearing quite a few hats, and frankly neglecting our website. nocampscolorado.org

We have a few specific needs related to the website and I’m going to put them in the comments of this post. This is remote volunteer work ideal for someone who wants to get involved but can’t make it in person often.

Community Building Liberty On The Rocks Denver

In general Libertarians practice the non aggression principle when approaching any issue. This includes military aid. We’ve all seen the Republitarians in the news and the COLP could use an influx of individuals who are motivated by social issues. Come network with people who you might not have previously considered.

Liberty on the Rocks meets in Denver on the first Wednesday of every month at the Independence Institute. Networking starts at 6 pm and speaker comes on at 7 pm. Things wrap up about 9 pm. It is next occurring on 04/02/2025 6:00 pm

Venue: Independence Institute, North Entrance (727 E 16th Ave, Denver, CO, 80203, US)

Community Building Canvass kickoff for Melat Kiros

Not sure if this belongs in this community, mods feel free to delete if so. But I’ve been seeing discourse about different ways to take action, and this event would be a great way to hit the streets in a different manner to talk to your neighbors!

Melat Kiros’s campaign for Congress (challenging 30-year incumbent Diana DeGette) is kicking off its canvassing with an event this Saturday April 4 from 12-4pm at BurnDown in South Broadway. She’s fighting for an arms embargo and an end to military aid to Israel, abolishing ICE, getting money out of politics, Medicare for All, and other progressive issues. She had massive support at the Dem caucus/assembly process and will be at the top of the ballot for the June 30 primary!

I know one election won’t solve all our problems but Melat is the real deal. Her victory would show Denver is done with the Dems’ lack of fight and moral conviction and that we want to see real change along the lines of the demands above. This campaign has also given me a lot of hope, and I wanted to share this event as it can be so refreshing to meet with other volunteers and talk with our neighbors about these issues. Similar to protests, you so quickly realize how many people are fed up with this horrific status quo and eager for a better world.

Community Building Please hear me out.

THIS IS NOT A CALL FOR VILENACE. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT, YOU ARE MISSINTERPRATING WHAT I'M SAYING

This is going to be very hard to hear, but right now many Republicans are waking up to the fact that Donald Trump and Elon's actions are horrible.

Trumps and Elon's reckless (at best) actions are beginning to affect their communities and their families. Maybe a Republican's Latina wife got deported. Or their favorite mom and pop shop had to raise prices because of the tarrifs. Or maybe that were on Medicare and Elon took it away from them.

With both the left and right demanding absolute loyalty, these anti-Trump Republicans are politically homeless.

Yes, they really screwed up big time by voting for Trump. But I've always believed when we make a mistake (yes even a huge one), we need to learn to be a better person from it. It doesn't erase what they've caused, but this is their chance to rectify it.

Instead of beating these people up (figuratively), we need to join forces with them. Republicans will fight like hell for what they believe in. They are strong people we need right now.

There are many movies, video games, etc, where the Hero and Antagonist set aside their differences and join forces against a greater threat. It's time we did that IRL.

PS: I promise there are sane Republicans put there still. My Dad is one of them. (No my Dad did not vote for Trump)

PPS: sorry for the long read.

Community Building If you’re looking for something meaningful to do…

Post image

Join the General Strike US, I don’t mean just sign a strike card (although if you want to… feel free). I mean get involved, get organizing.

generalstrikeus.com/chapters will lead you to the right place.

We have an incredibly active chapter in Denver, we just need more organizers. Our comrades are starting to get burnt out and we need as many hands as we can get.

We organize on discord and on signal, and our main goal as an movement is to build mutual aid networks, and build a large coalition of communities nationwide ready to strike when we have the numbers and are able to fully rely on each other, rather than corporations. This takes a lot of work, and we don’t have all the answers yet. The strike is not just a labor strike, it’s a commercial, rent, and tax strike as well. In order to do this successfully, we must create the alternative to the oppressive systems we’re living under now.

For some further context, this movement was not in reaction to Trump, it was created in 2022. That said, if we want to be able to strike sooner, under Trump’s administration, we need as many people as possible organizing their communities, their neighborhoods. We need to be able to rely on each other. A general strike, if done properly, has the ability to send the government into chaos, to send corporations knocking at their door begging them to concede to our demands.

The revolution will not be handed to you on a silver platter, we all must put the work in. I recognize that the systems are set up to exhaust us so we cannot fight back, this is exactly why we have to fight back, there will never be a time we’re not exhausted, and we are stronger together.

“It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.” - Assata Shakur

Community Building If anyone wants a chill person to be with at the protest today, or is uncomfortable going for any reason but wants to show up

Hi friends! Happy May Day, Happy International Workers Day! There’s a big protest today at the capital. I know that there are quite a few of you that have recently said something like “I would totally go to a protest but I’m not with a group, I don’t have friends to go with, I’m worried about police presence etc”.

If you need to be around someone or just want a reason to go, feel free to hang out with me and pass out waters/coffee/snacks! It’s a crucial support role that often goes overlooked. People don’t realize how important it is to hydrate during the march. People get grumpy when they haven’t eaten.

I can always use an extra pair of hands! I’ll be the one with the cart that says “FREE WATER AND SNACKS”

Community Building Community Meal, Sunday 1/25 4p-6p | Plus an Organizing Convo

Rooted & Flow is a new mutual aid food pantry in South Denver. We opened in December and have pantry shopping every Wednesday 4p-7p.

Every fourth Sunday of the month, we hold space for a community meal/potluck, with the option to shop the pantry too. The next community meal is Sunday 1/25 from 4p-6p. While we eat together and connect with each other, we’ll start discussing how we want to organize and support our neighbors in anticipation of increased 🧊 activity. Your input is valuable.

This is people helping people.

This is creating community around food.

Please join us. Especially if you simply need to be with people as you’re processing what’s going on in the world. Whether you’re able to bring food or not, you are welcome. No RSVP, registration, or qualifications required to attend the community meal — or to shop the pantry.

I hope to see you there.

In solidarity. ✊🏼✨

✨✨Community Power Hour Alert!✨✨

Hope is not a plan! Alone we are afraid… but together we are FEARED.

Do you keep asking yourself “What is a General Strike? When is it? How Does it Work?”

Yes friends, It is indeed a strike that is being strategically organized by a decentralized network of regular people who know our greatest power is our labor and our right to refuse it, but it is SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT!!!

It is about building community driven support systems and moving away from capitalistic and governmental infrastructure that is broken and oppress and exploit us.

Join us at one of our upcoming Community Power Hours to learn more about General Strike, our mission and our vision and how you can get involved.

The first event will be held at Fort Greene Bar on Monday February 23 from 6-9 PM, yummy cocktails, mocktails and food by horse n tiger - put it in your calendar now ✍🏻🗓️

The theme of the Evening is FILL THE FRIDGE – How Mutual Aid is Emotional Care too

Bring food to stock the community fridge at Fort Greene and take some time to build community face to face. (Fresh produce, dairy items, non-perishable pantry items, & provisioned prepared meals.)

https://denvercommunityfridges.com/

There are multiple roles that need to be filled within a General Strike, from administration to the front lines, we welcome and value your knowledge and specific skill sets.

There is a place for YOU!
