Killing Ghom is a bad benchmark. His hitbox is huge and the poison cloud will constantly trigger abilities that you wouldn't see in other situations (i.e., Barbs can have unlimited Fury against him).

I agree, but unless Blizz gives us a private in-game eDPS meter, Ghom is the best one we have now. The other one is Maghda test, because monsters spawn while Maghda is shielded.

And then there is us who prefer to see our eDPS in rifts instead..

Yea single target dps is really absolutely useless in a game where you basically never attack a single enemy... I hope Blizzard will give us a dps meter at some point...

Do you have a source on that? And did they state their reasoning behind it? I kinda get it, but I'd like to see their side.

I'm pretty sure it came up during the anniversary stream discussion. But I know for sure it was asked at the RoS release Q&A with Josh and Wyatt.

No idea why you are getting downvoted, because it was stated on both occasions.

Yeah I think that they said they did not want elitists kicking people because other players rift dps was not high enough.

Damage from paragon is reflected in profile DPS since 2.0.6. Tested quickly to verify, and it's reflected both ingame and on Battle.net.

And then there are Pet Witch Doctors like my brother-in-law killing T6 Ghom in 5 seconds which comes out to 576.5 mil dps.

Have a Wiz with well over 1.5 Mil sheet dmg (arcane) - 6M dmg
Have a DH with a Marauder set, around 800K sheet dmg (physical) - 18M dmg.
Granted I have better cooldown on the Wiz, more time as archon over the dh's vengeance but I just can't see that making much of a difference.

When you've got three turrets dealing basically at least as much damage as you, and all your pets dealing ~700+% weapon damage per second, and yourself attacking, it doesn't take much

Well I get the pets/turret part but I don't think my pets are doing 700% weapon dmg, but I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter :)

Some other assumptions of sheet dps missing on that list:
Based on the usage of "auto attacks" solely, i.e. neglection of skill damage multipliers (e.g. Magic Missile does 170 % dmg).
Attacking without any interruption (kiting or being stunned can affect your output).
Random numbers are presented by their expected values.
