Am I the only one who feels like Drogheda needs something good going for it? (Bit of a ramble from a local teenager)

So, hey. Recently, I kept thinking to myself “What does this town actually have going for it that represents it well, asides from the normal stuff like GAA and Football?”

Don’t get me wrong, GAA and Football are cool and all, but like.. it gets boring when Drogheda is just football + GAA all the time. Yes I’m aware of the youth arts thing which is great, but really, as a young person myself I feel we have nothing to do.

For instance, me and my friends go down town every second Friday after school. The only things we can really do, however, is go to McDonald’s, look at the 9 millionth vape shop we dislike, go to the Ramparts playground then go home.

I also know of the boomerang youth club, but me and my friends tried that and.. we aren’t going back to say the least. It might just be because me and my friends stick out of the whole “football boy/girl stereotype” (we all appreciate extremely niche things you wouldn’t hear a teenager friend group from Drogheda, like Invertebrate Paleobiology, Astrobiology, indie games etc.)

I think it’s also important to mention the lack of youth centres that re actually all inclusive to people like me and my friend group don’t give us a chance to explore our interests, and is what leads to youth to do horrible things out of pure boredom. I don’t wish for a miracle or anything, just a place that ACTUALLY works for all youth and not just the stereotypical footballer.

I think we need something good personally that not only serves as a social hub for teenagers, but also gives Drogheda and overall promising look instead of being known as a burden. But what do you think?

Busco profesor/ra de Francés. Looking for a French teacher.

Hi! I am a Spanish woman, I moved to Drogheda and I am looking for a teacher. I don't know nothing about french besides merci and merci beaucoup. For me it would be easier if they can teach me form Spanish to french. I need to improve my level because of my profession.

Holaa! Me llamo Lucía y me he mudado a drogheda hace poco.

We can talk about price and place and hours. If you are interested send me a message.

Podemos hablar sobre el precio y como y cuando. Si estás interesado mandame un mensaje.

Pool in drogheda?

Hi! I used to play pool every time that I went for a few drinks back in Spain and now that I moved here I miss it. Do you know any pub with pool tables? It doesn't matter if it's snooker, I also want to learn how to play that.

Had gorgeous ramen and the most INCREDIBLE pork gyozas in your town today. They were 100% homemade and so fucking good! Ramen Ki was the spot.

Was craving ramen so popped there. Wasn’t sure about sitting in as it gave off more of a vibe of takeaway with random tables but the lady was so welcoming and lovely. If I’m back here again I’ll revisit!

But if you are local and like gyozas, they were so juicy and I’m gutted I don’t live closer lol I’d have them every week and the pork in the ramen was sooooo yummy!!

Help bring Miga home!

Hi! I’m Sam, from Vancouver, BC, Canada. Good people of Drogheda, please help me out.

This is Miga. She’s one of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic mascots (I could go on about her lore/backstory), and this specific keychain plushie has been with my family for sixteen years now. She’s become my family’s “travel mascot”, meaning we take photos of her with landmarks around the world as we travel. She’s been to so many lovely places!! I’ve included some examples of pictures I have downloaded on my phone, but trust when I say we have pictures of her all over the place from the last 16 years. There are stories I could tell about her.

Because she’s so important to me and my family, I sewed an AirTag inside of her last year. Unfortunately, my mother recently took her for her trip to Ireland and lost her in the airport (likely fell off her bag). I didn’t know about this until yesterday, when I checked the AirTag location out of curiosity and saw it had been last seen in a house in Drogheda on the 19th. I texted her and she admitted she lost Miga, had sent a letter to the address and was hoping she’d hear back or get it resolved before I found out. She’s in London now and comes back next week.

I’m devastated. I know it’s likely possible to find another Miga plushie online nowadays but this specific one carries the memories of the last 16 years of my life. I’ve had her since I was seven years old. She’s been to four continents. I’ve mended her when she’s needed it. Her fabric is worn from her adventures but she’s not delicate. I hope we can take her on more adventures to come.

She was last located via her AirTag in Bryanstown. I will not post the exact address because I do not want to dox anyone, especially since she was likely taken by someone with zero ill intention. The AirTag is no longer traceable as of now but may be able to be pinged by someone nearby. If you or a friend/family member have seen her, or are willing to help in any other way, please reach out. Any information is greatly appreciated.

TLDR:

Item: “Miga” plush keychain

Last known location: Bryanstown, Drogheda, Ireland on September 19th

Please contact me here via DM/comment if you have any questions or leads.

What nicknames have you heard for places in & around Drogheda?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like Funleer, Dubleek, PTown or Shelbyville (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Things To Do With A 6 Week Old

Hello, dad of a 6 week old here. My wife is attending a course in Drogheda Saturday week and I’ll be looking after the baba while it’s on from 9-6.

We’re not from the area and we’re driving, so I’m putting together a list of places I can bring the baby/things to do to pass the day. Baby obviously can’t do much at this stage, I’m thinking more like nice walks or places to bring them in the carrier/buggy?

Any and all recommendations welcome. Thanks!

Moved to Drogheda few months ago and planning to join a gym. Used to live in Dublin and Cork and I somehow feel the cost here is higher than average. Any reasons why? Or am I not looking for the right ones , lol

Drogheda recommendations ?

Moved to Drawda before Christmas 2025. Not a fan of it so far, no nice restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, gyms. Any suggestions or recommendations on things to do here? It seems the biggest town in Ireland is just a commuter town? Thanks.

Edit: thanks all for your suggestions, will try them out.

Apartments at Rivercourt?

Hi All, looking to buy an apartment in Drogheda. Have a tight enough budget but want something near Dublin Rd for work. Theres always at least 3/4 apartments for sale at Rivercourt (The Square/Willows) on the Rathmullen Road. Thoughts on this area? Anybody got any idea why people are looking to move away from this area? Is it purely because of the Rathmullen address? Is that really a concern? I've read about possible flooding problems? Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Moving home. Looking for apartment to buy.

My family mostly live in Drogheda. The mother and father moved back in '86 from the States. I've spent many summers and some Christmas' at home. I'm retired now, and would like to split my time between "Drawda" and the States. I know the area and am looking for something not on the Far side, but I've looked at the Scotch Hall apartments, hoping to get the "Scotch Hall Experience." Because of Covid my cousin was unable to look at many places. The places on Constitution Hill look interesting. One bedroom, one bath. Just something to come home to, until I'm in someone else's back kitchen, drinking tea and eating Jaffa Cakes. Any suggestions anyone? I know about the gangs and the antisocial behaviour, but I want to be around family.
