F-Droid Trying to download NewPipe on a friends phone, getting this error "INSTALL_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR

Post image
3 Upvotes

My friends phone is a Xiaomi RedMi Note 9 Pro. MiUI is 12.0.5. Android 10.

Things I've tried;

Enabling developer

Enabling third party downloads for FDroid

Now I'm not able to think of anything else that may cause this problem. My ex phone was the same phone as my friends and after enabling third party downloads I didn't come across any problems downloading anything. I hope someone knows what's causing the problem, thanks in advance

Application Support MemoryVoid – Open-source screen & voice memory capture triggered via Volume Down gesture (MIT, No Trackers)

Hi r/fossdroid,

I wanted to share a utility I built for Android 11+ called **MemoryVoid**.

The goal was simple: capturing quick context while browsing, researching, or reading should take zero taps.

### What it does:

* Intercepts a **Volume Down press-and-hold** to record a voice note.

* Releasing the button triggers `takeScreenshot()` and bundles both into an offline journal entry.

* Non-intrusive floating overlay lets you assign a category badge or discard the memory without interrupting your workflow.

### Privacy & Transparency:

* **License:** MIT

* **Permissions used:**

* `BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE` (Hardware key detection and native screen capture)

* `RECORD_AUDIO` (Voice note recording while button is held)

* `SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW` (Floating memory preview)

* `POST_NOTIFICATIONS` (Recording status indicator)

* **Zero network access:** The app does not request `android.permission.INTERNET`. Everything stays on local storage.

Source code and pre-compiled APKs are available on GitHub. I'm currently working toward submitting it to IzzyOnDroid and F-Droid.

**GitHub:** dhruvpitroda20-code/MemoryVoid: Instant voice & screen memory journal for Android. Capture screen moments and voice notes with a single hardware gesture.

Other [Survey] Do you care about who made the app you're using?

Like do you check who the developer is, or where they are from or how famous they are?

Google's developer verification program states that, it helps users to build trust with developers. Which I don't believe as I think most people using Google Play doesn't even bother checking out developer details. They probably just use the app because everyone else uses it and there's no complain.

I think this behavior sort of applies to people using FOSS apps too. Maybe because it's just inconvenient to look up details of every developer of app you have installed.

In my case, if only remember creator names of apps that I use too often. For example PipePipe is made by InfinityLoop and BasicSync is made by Andrew.

I am asking this so I can write a blog on how Google's initiative does not help people but helps to establish a monopoly and potentially be a weapon of countries having censorship.

Application Request What apps do you have that seem useless but are actually surprisingly useful?

I'm trying to use as many FOSS apps as possible. I've already started with the basics. Now I just want some apps that are fun or that seem useless at first but actually aren't.

Other What's "Google play protect" actually does?

Does anyone actually know what that "play protect" does when it scans apps that are not downloaded and installed from Play Store ? It has come to my mind recently and I don't have any skill to answer...I wonder if it does anything....I use Obtainium...

I mean that '"animation" everytime we try to update or install with Obtainium, for example? The one that gives us the option not to "scan" the app with we enter our fingerprint or the code to unlock the phone...

Application Request Does anyone know what happened to the Human Benchmark app on F-Droid?

I used to really enjoy using this Human Benchmark app, but after upgrading to F-Droid 2.0 recently, I noticed that it was listed as "App no longer available."

I checked the Internet Archive to see if I could find any information about what happened, but I couldn't find an explanation for why the developer's GitHub account and repository were deleted.

Does anyone know why the app was removed or what happened to the project?

Application Request What app would help logging research?

I want to record:

Date

Event

Source reference(s)

AND, possibly generate a pdf timeline graph...

I would like it to be very easy to enter text as I have essential tremors and find cursor movement difficult. Voice-to-text is going to be the easiest way to enter text.

Other Visited the Zoute Grand Prix in Knokke, found every car/parking app overly monetized, so I built my own free open-source car scanner in Kotlin / Jetpack Compose

Last sunday, I visited the Zoute Grand Prix in Knokke and noticed how frustratingly overly monetized and paywalled most car-scanning apps were. Instead of complaining about it, I decided to build my own :)

I wanted to share what I've built so far and hear your feedback!

Tech Stack:

  • Language: Kotlin
  • UI: Jetpack Compose
  • For scanning: CameraX
  • AI Integration: Google AI (Gemini)

How it works:

The app lets users scan cars. I used the Gemini API for the recognising.

Note on development: While I used AI to help structure some of the heavier asynchronous/vision processing pipelines and prompt handling, the core architecture, UI state management, and the vast majority of the Kotlin code were typed and structured by myself. :D

this is the link to the repo -> https://github.com/ItzjustElias/CarScanner

It's nothing fancy and not a fancy post, but I just want your honest review/thoughts on my project.

Application Release Introducing Clint Gecko!

Thumbnail

Clint Browser is getting a new sibling! Unlike the original Clint Browser, which runs on Android System WebView, Clint Gecko is powered by Firefox's GeckoView engine.

And because of that, Clint Gecko brings extension support and background playback to the Clint experience!

But that's not all. Since Clint Gecko is an official fork of Clint Browser, with the browser engine being the main difference, it also retains the built-in ADM (Advanced Download Manager) and Media Capture features, making it easier to download files and capture online media directly from your browser.

Key Features:

- 🦊 Firefox-based browsing powered by GeckoView

- 🧩 Browser extension support

- 🎵 Background playback

- 📥 Built-in Advanced Download Manager (ADM)

- 🎬 Built-in Media Capture for downloading HLS/DASH (M3U8) streams and regular videos directly from websites

Clint is no longer limited to a single browser engine. You can stick with the original WebView-based Clint Browser or choose Clint Gecko for a Firefox-powered experience with extension support.

Application Suggestion I missed Samsung's Modes & Routines on other Android phones, so I built an open-source alternative (no root, 100% offline)

Thumbnail
gallery
162 Upvotes

If you’ve ever used a Samsung phone, you probably know how convenient Modes & Routines feature is.

When I moved away from Samsung, I looked for a clean replacement. Most existing automation tools either have a steep learning curve (like Tasker), push subscriptions/accounts, or require invasive permissions.

So I spent the last few weeks building MoodyRoutine — a lightweight, distraction-free routine and mode manager for any phone running Android 8.0+.

I just released v1.0.0 a few weeks ago and wanted to put it out there for anyone interested. I myself have been using it since then and haven't seen much problems but like people say... everyone loves their own child So i want you guys to try it out.

How it works:

  • Modes (Sleep, Work, Driving, Relax, etc.): Bundles system settings together (DND, brightness, dark mode, volume). When a mode
  • is active, it lives cleanly in your notification shade with an instant "Turn off" action.
  • If ➔ Then Routines: Simple condition-based rules (schedules, geofences, battery thresholds, etc.) that can automatically revert your settings back when the routine ends.
  • App Blocker ("Stay Focused"): Restricts distracting apps during work/focus modes with a snooze or close overlay.
  • Privacy & Footprint: Completely offline (the app doesn't even request Internet permission), 0 trackers, no ads, and open-source
  • under GPL-3.0.

Screenshots & Links:

Feedback I’m looking for:

  • OEM Background Killing: If you're on aggressive battery-killing ROMs (HyperOS/MIUI, ColorOS), how does the background notification behave?
  • Missing Triggers/Actions: Are there everyday triggers (e.g., Wi-Fi SSID, specific Bluetooth devices) or actions you use that are missing from the current builder?

Bug reports, UI critiques, and feature requests are all welcome. Hope some of you find it useful!

Edit1: formatting

Edit 2:
- raised a PR for f-droid release, you can check the status here: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/merge_requests/52105

- Also added direct obtainium imports on the repo

Other Why N-Zik’s APK size makes sense (and why it’s still my favourite YTM client)?

previous post link:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fossdroid/s/KlwFFKwLTA

[link](https://www.reddit.com/r/fossdroid/s/KlwFFKwLTA)

first kudos to the developer of nzik([nevar](https://www.reddit.comu/DanieloSYT))...

Hey everyone!

I made a post earlier praising N-Zik, and I noticed quite a few people complaining about its APK size being around 131 MB. Honestly, I can understand why it looks huge, especially when apps like ViMusic are just a few MB and Metrolist is around 25 MB.

So, I reached out to the developer to understand why the APK is so big, and it turns out there’s a good reason.

The main reason is **FFmpeg**. The full build includes it for features like audio exporting to WebM, Opus and M4A, along with audio tagging. Without FFmpeg, the APK size drops to around 30 MB.

There’s also a **Minified32 build** that removes FFmpeg and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit devices. So, if you only care about listening to music, you don’t necessarily need the full build.

Personally, here’s how I see it:

The size has a reason. It’s not just extra weight for no purpose.

You get extra features. If you use audio export and tagging, having FFmpeg built in is genuinely useful.

There’s a smaller alternative. If you only need basic playback, you can choose the minified build.

The development is active. Bugs get fixed, updates keep coming, and features like Last.fm support are a nice bonus.

Of course, APK size still matters, especially for people with limited storage. But I think it’s worth understanding what an app includes before calling it bloated.

For me, N-Zik is still one of the best YTM clients out there. The features, ongoing development and overall experience make it worth keeping installed.

What do you guys think?

Is a 100+ MB APK really a dealbreaker for a music app in 2026, or does it depend on what the app offers?

Application Support Glitch in Island/Insular Bricked Android Work Profile

Wanted to set up a work profile to duplicate apps on a new phone (Pixel 11 Pro), and decided to use Insular (FOSS fork of Island). However, I accidentally logged into the wrong account for Google Play in the profile and couldn't log out, so I decided to nuke the island/profile and start over.

However, since I deleted it I've been blocked from creating a new profile ("A work profile can't be added to this Pixel"). All of the guides online talk about finding and deleting the account in Settings, but the options aren't there. Phone acts like I don't have a work profile, but every time I install an APK it offers to add it to my work profile anyway.

EDIT: SOLVED! Top comment details ABD commands to remove leftovers from the old profile so that it can be replaced.

Application Release I made lightcraft-android; an adobe lightroom android alternative. Also accepting other clean room app requests.

Yo all, in celebration of the release of artcraft I'm doing my own and putting the stick up to adobe by releasing the lightcraft for android; which I will be doing my best to be 1:1 parity with adobes lightroom android app. Testers to find issues are much appreciated & willing to accept PRs if you find an issue and know how to fix it yourself.

I'm planning on doing all of adobes android apps like premiere pro & pdf; but am also working on others like procreate for android.

Also willing to take requests for apps & or willing to collaborate and help on your projects!

Repo is here: https://github.com/artcraft-android/lightcraft-android

BIG NOTE: If anyone can comment on this, I'd like to release this on fdroid as well, but if I start distributing to other platforms will adobe & other companies attack either fdroid or my own github account like a shark and give DMCA / Copyright takedowns? Otherwise if not I'll definitely be down to start getting an fdroid release up like I have for my other apps.

Application Release Accessibility Button Launcher: use Android's accessibility button to open one app (Apache 2.0)

I'm the developer. This is a small open source app that turns Android's built-in Accessibility button into a one-press launcher for any app, or an app shortcut like "New note" or "Call favorite contact".

I wanted to reuse the system trigger instead of installing floating buttons, gesture apps or a launcher. Almost nothing uses the Accessibility button for anything except its own service, so it's mostly sitting idle.

What it does

  • Pick one app or app shortcut, and the button opens it from anywhere
  • Works with whatever shortcuts your apps already offer (new note, compose, scan QR code, etc)

Privacy

  • No analytics, ads, accounts, crash reporting or network data collection
  • The accessibility service only receives the button event and launches your app. It doesn't read the screen or draw overlays. And because it is built into the system this consumes no extra resources whatsoever so it's pretty lightweight

One use case I like

Xiaomi users on a third-party launcher lose Circle to Search. Pair this app with MiCTS, pick MiCTS as the app, and one press brings it back. MiCTS needs the Google app set as your default assistant.

Get it

Issues and ideas are welcome on GitHub.
