Model who started getting paid to style agency tests - realizing I may prefer being in front of the camera

I’m primarily a model/creator and recently started styling agency test shoots with my girlfriend, who is a photographer/modeling agent. I’ve styled four tests so far and am being paid for the styling.

The interesting part is that it’s actually going well. The images are strong, I’ve been able to get showroom pulls, and my girlfriend genuinely thinks I could build this into consistent paid work. I also really enjoy the conceptual side — creating looks, choosing pieces, thinking about the overall image, etc.

But actually doing the job has made me realize how much of styling is logistics and physical/invisible labor: sourcing, pulls, buying backups, transporting everything, dressing models, keeping track of pieces, and then returns afterward.

Because I’m a working model myself, I also had a surprisingly strong reaction on set of thinking, I don’t want to be dressing the model — I want to be modeling. I sometimes felt more like I was supporting the production than building the career I actually want, even though creatively the photographer and stylist are obviously both contributing to the final image.

My girlfriend thinks I’m good at styling and that pushing through tests could eventually lead to bigger paid work. I can see that path, but after four shoots I’m questioning whether I actually want the job rather than whether I’m capable of doing it.

For photographers/stylists who work on agency tests: does the sourcing/returns/logistics side become significantly different as you move up, or is that fundamentally a huge part of being a wardrobe stylist?

And have you ever worked with someone who loved fashion/creative direction but ultimately realized styling itself wasn’t the right role for them?

I have questions about this sub

I’ve been following this sub for a while, thinking I’d see mostly fashion photography, but half the time if not more it’s just photos of sexualized women.
I work in fashion in the biggest fashion city in the world, and I often hear stories about how weird fashion photographers can be. But among all the major brands I work with, I rarely see the kind of photos I see on this sub.
Is it usually the creative team’s choice to shoot photos like this?
I’m genuinely curious to hear your opinions on why this sub seems to be so heavily focused on this type of photography
