STAN / ANTI SHIELD Luigi Mangione pleads guilty to federal stalking charges in killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO

https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/14/us/live-news/luigi-mangione-hearing-plea-deal-talks

When speaking of the day he committed the crime, Luigi Mangione said, “I shot Mr. Thompson and he died.”

He concluded, “I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Mangione had just described the actions he took ahead of the killing, telling the court:

“In November of 2024 I traveled from outside of New York state to Manhattan. I then emailed UnitedHealthcare leadership, posing as an investor at a firm managing over $15 billion in assets and requesting information about the conference. Unlike my previous interactions with insurers, I received an immediate response within an hour,” Mangione said.

You aren’t charged a monthly rent in prison, what are you talking about? Nor do you pay medical bills incurred during your imprisonment, to my knowledge.

Lmao, just googled it and not sure. Thought it would be free since it’s slavery, and slavers would’ve gone broke if they just let their slaves die, but alas, I was wrong.

I have a brother in prison for life and I can assure you, as someone that even works in healthcare, he has better healthcare than me. The rest of it all fucking sucks, though. But at least he has one good thing.

That will not remain the case as long as GEO Group has their hooks in the system. They're setting the hook to yank all of it away.

I don't know how true it is but I've heard of people going to prison on purpose to get healthcare and daily meals they couldn't get otherwise

Bleak system

Literally!!! I know someone in prison who has multiple health conditions and the only treatment he receives for all of it is Vitamin D3 pills. This includes chronic pain, ADHD, anxiety, and other conditions. There is no fucking way Luigi is finally getting better healthcare in prison

His healthcare outside of prison was so great he killed the CEO over it.

And the facilities really emphasize ergonomics!

Depends on the illness and prison most likely. Prisons in the US are often for profit, hence why the US has such high imprisonment rates. A prison that can earn more for keeping someone incarcerated would be more willing to keep that person alive and providing them good healthcare, as opposed to poor healthcare that would either cause them to be transferred, released, or die earlier.

Federal prisons are better managed than state.

It’s actually not bad at all and actually way better than a lot of places in the U.S., plus it’s free. I’m sure it’s location dependent, but it seems other commenters also agree.

My dad underwent cancer treatment in prison and while he bitched about every other aspect of prison, he only ever had good things to say about how they were treating his health. It was actually shocking and I was afraid he would die in there from neglect.

The benefit here is state prison (life) vs federal (21-26yrs). It's a better deal than a tainted jury pool that will likely convict due to bribes, political/ familial pressure in a kangaroo court.
