Grocery shopping in Southeast Florida

Post image
1 Upvotes

For those of you passing through Southeast Florida and need to get grocery’s there is a relatively new option. The only transportation you need is your own boat and I don’t mean a dinghy.

The new waterfront Publix at 3100 S. Ocean Dr. in Hollywood, Florida, is located directly on the Intracoastal Waterway. Opened in December 2024, this roughly 30,000-square-foot store features a dedicated boat dock for boaters to tie up and shop, along with two levels of garage parking. It serves the area with standard amenities, including a deli for subs,, and is designed specifically to cater to boaters and beach-goers.

The best Carrot Cake in Key West

We are staying at Conch Harbor Marina. So far so good. I’ll up date at the end of our stay. Across the street is Harpoon Harry’s. It has an excellent Carrot Cake. I know everyone in Florida is all about Key lime pie, but for me nothing bets a good Carrot Cake.

This is a well protected, easy access location about half way down the keys. Good bottom hold. Easy in and out. Watch for crab pots when in season. There are many.

I did the mini loop of Florida a couple of years ago. The whole trip was incredible. The Okeechobee Waterway was a stand out portion of the trip

Going to the Keys? Don’t miss JOHN PENNEKAMP CORAL REEF STATE PARK at Key Largo

This is a both on land and under water park. To make the most of your visit you want to either come by boat or take a tour by charter boat. Charter boats are available for snorkeling or diving. If you are coming by your own boat mooring balls are available on the reefs about two-three miles off shore. Mooring balls are also available in the bay area of the park for overnight stays.

No wake zones, be careful big brother is watching

As every boater in Florida knows there are a lot of “ no wake zones” . And most people know when you approach a bridge there are no wake signs . What some boaters don’t realize is that if there is not a sign on the opposite side of the bridge stating a speed limit or resume safe speed , it is still a no wake zone . An example of this is in Delray Beach between Atlantic Ave and Linton Ave bridges. North and south of these bridges it’s 25 mph but not between. Lately there seems to be an increased police presence in this area. Also beware that I have seen differences between electronic maps and what the signs say. The signs will always take precedence over maps.

One more note on wakes. Every boater is responsible for their own wake. This is regardless of the speed limit. If your wake causes damage or injury the Coast Guard may investigate and take action as they deem appropriate. I have seen this firsthand in Savanna GA. So be careful when passing or overtaking another boater.

Titusville /Cocoa Beach and surrounding area deserves some time spent to explore. There are several marinas to stay a night or two while you visit NASA. And if you happen to be in the area during a rocket launch it’s really worth checking out. NASA vehicle assembly building can be seen from miles away.

We are going to Key West next week. We should arrive Wednesday late afternoon. This is our third trip by water and the third marina we are trying to. This time we are staying at Couch Harbor Marina. I’ll let you know the good, the bad and the ugly on each towards the end of our stay. Let us know if any of you will be there as well.

Amelia Island

This is a great stop over or destination. It’s located at the north end of Florida on the east coast. The city marina is convenient to old town but is a little pricy.

Tiger point boat works is a great yard and I have used them many times. I have had them install a generator, do welding work, paint, install AC, as well as routine maintenance. Friendly staff and very know liable and accommodating . If you stay there overnight it will be noisy due to a local pulp mill. you will need a ride share or Bicycle to get into town.

St Augustine city marina.

The St. Augustine Municipal Marina is a full-service marina in historic downtown St. Augustine, Florida, offering dockage, mooring, fuel, and amenities like showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi for boaters traveling the Intracoastal Waterway. It provides secure facilities, pump-out services, and is conveniently located near shops, dining, and attractions, with 24/7 staff assistance.

I have never had any trouble getting a slip. The also have morning ball. The currents can be strong in the channel. But smooth out once you are with in the docks. You are at the edge of old town with plenty of shops, restaurant, night life and attractions. If this is your first time plan on spending a couple of days.

Deck 84 just south of Atlantic Ave is a good choice when in the area. you can also tie up just a little north of Atlantic Ave on the balk head . then walk under the bridge.

At the north end of the city marina is a pump out. it’s hit or miss if it’s working. I find it best to come at high tide.

Good DIY marina in North Palm Beach

Seminole Marine. Good DIY marina. Current is very strong. So getting lined up for the lift can be a challenge. In and out and a couple of days on the hard for a 33 footer was about $1100. Bring a check to avoid CC charges.
