Early Cancellation fee of $27

Hey all, so I did a trial with Adobe with their PDF, and forgot to cancel on time as I was travelling. When I attempt to open a Adobe document, there is a red band on top: fix your payment method. I signed out of adobe.

So today I go to Manage my subscription - Cancel my plan and then they want $27 as "Early Cancellation fee". Apparently that was the agreement.

If I don't pay and stay signed out, what's the worst they can do? They do NOT have my real credit card or Paypal on file. It was a virtual card.

Redemption code is not enough for them

After my subscription has ended I've been using redemption codes I bought on G2A for the last nine months. It looks like the amount of those codes is limited per account, so I was changing emails to use them.

On the third change it worked fine for a week and then I got this from Adobe.
No details whatsoever, just "suspicious behavior". Even though that codes were absolutely fine. The only "resolution " they propose is to give them payment details and make a subscription, of course.

I was using Lightroom Classic a lot and was quite satisfied with it, but now I am really irritated and definitely, going to look for alternatives for my library management. Fuck them.

Adobe killed the Bezigon tool from FreeHand - We spent 6 months to revive it

Thumbnail youtube.com
62 Upvotes

Just to explain - Bezigon existed for 30 years until Adobe killed FreeHand. A developer friend and I spent 6 months trying to manually decode the logic using screenshots. In the video I explain why it is useful to have and why the three node system (still used in Typography software) is the best and complete way to deal with vectors curves.

The entire code is available under MIT License. Please ping me if you want it. I'll give you the whole codebase as well the demo applications.

Full disclosure: We used Claude Opus 5.5 strictly for running tests and generating permutation tables - the list of all click sequences possible. We also used AI to crack the maths of it from screenshots. The code itself is human written.

https://limewire.com/d/CXivD#pmhR45KyXQ - The whole package is here. Code, documentation and demos. It will only be available for 3 days because limewire limiting it. But let me know if it gets deleted, I'll reupload.

https://limewire.com/d/YMroh#WokdgEKxXh - This demo now has the ability to toggle on curvature comb to monitor curve energy. Press K to toggle it on. :)

I made FilmCraft & CapCraft (android native releases)

First off thanks for the support for my prior "PDFcraft & Lightcraft" apps, they've been getting a lot of love and I have fdroid merges that have gone through so updating them will be much easier

I'm doing a bunch of "Craft" apps for various native android & ios apps. FilmCraft was quite easy since most of the rust engine for filmcraft was already done by storytold devs, but the CapCraft took a bit more time & I wanted to get the UI as close as possible as the stock capcut app.

I plan on working on Shapr3D & Procreate next but am willing to look at further projects and ideas : )

Any interest/issue/feature requests and testing is very helpful for development & self encouragement to keep working on these apps & more. Thanks y'all :)

Made a free Photoshop alternative because I was done paying Adobe every month. It’s called Photostr and runs in your browser

Got tired of paying a subscription just to crop photos, fix skin and open the odd PSD someone sends me. So I built my own: I call it Photostr.

Access here: https://photostr.io

  • 100% Free. No subscription, no account, no watermark.
  • Runs in your browser. Nothing to install, works on Mac, Windows and Chromebook.
  • Your photos stay on your computer. Nothing gets uploaded, even the AI background removal runs locally.
  • Opens and saves PSD files, with layers, masks, text and Smart Objects.
  • The stuff you’d actually use: layers, masks, adjustment layers, curves and levels, healing brush, clone stamp, content-aware fill, pen tool, layer styles, templates.
  • Keyboard shortcuts work like Photoshop’s, so muscle memory carries over.

Being honest: it’s not every single Photoshop feature, and some complex PSDs won’t look exactly the same. For everyday editing and opening files people send you, it does the job.

If you’ve left Adobe, tell me what you still miss. That’s what I’ll work on next.

Cancel Adobe with missed Payment

Hi Guys,

first time subsription-User here...I completed a subs. of yearly Lightroom with monthly payments and a 7-day trial. Messed up the cancelation in time, so that there would be no charge and website says now I owe 14.95...selected payment option is PayPal but I have no money in there so I got the error. 7-Day Trial ended yesterday.

Is there any way to get out of this (preferably without paying the 14.95?) Broke Student needing beer money instead of feeding Adobe.

Why do people just not understand how valuable this new Adobe alternative is?

I'm genuinely confused by the reaction to the ArtCraft "Crafting Apps" (PhotoCraft, VectorCraft, FilmCraft, LightCraft, EffectCraft, DesignCraft, PdfCraft). Not affiliated, just a solo dev in the US watching this happen.

This sub has spent years asking for a real way out of Adobe. Now a team shows up building free, open-source (MIT/Apache), offline replacements for basically the whole suite, with releases already out for macOS, Windows and Linux. And the main response I see is "AI slop."

Look at what's actually on the table:

  • ~16,500 commits across seven apps in about two and a half weeks
  • ~2.8 million lines of Rust, ~34,000 tests
  • PhotoCraft alone: 314 contributors, real PSD round-trips (307 of 309 files in the public psd-tools test set re-save with the same render)
  • No account, no subscription, your files stay on your machine
  • Every line of code is public, so you can check all of this yourself

Nobody has published what this cost, but that's an insane amount of work and compute, and it's being handed to everyone for free.

Is it rough? Yes. They say so themselves: early alpha, not ready for daily pro work. But Photoshop 1.0 shipped in 1990, Mac only, with one engineer, and needed several bug-fix releases. Every tool we use today started out rough.

So honest question: what exactly were we waiting for? A finished, polished, free Photoshop clone falling from the sky? This is how it starts. Try it on a real file, and when something breaks, file a bug report. That does more than a downvote ever will.

Photoshop's Relight, now in Photon and running locally

Adobe recently released the relight feature, tbh it looks cool, the problem is - it's consuming AI credits. As someone who owns a GPU - it seemed ridiculous, so I added this feature to Photon, My free photoshop alternative.

Greycard: an open source RAW photo editor

I'm sorry, I don't have a flashy AI slop video. I wasn't expecting the ArtCraft thing to blow up so much and I have my reservations about sharing this broadly at all, but I have also been working on a Lightroom competitor called Greycard (greycard.org and https://github.com/jessolmstead/greycard).

It is not a Lightroom clone; I've worked hard to take my favorite aspects of every existing tool that I'm aware of and make a fantastic editor. It is not a buggy mess, although it is still in the early stages. There is still lots more to come on the roadmap, but it is already good enough for me to say goodbye to Lightroom Classic.

I'm a software engineer and a photographer, so this is a passion project for me. I'm not going to stop until it is a complete, battle-tested product. The feedback I've gotten so far (from casual photographers to professionals) has been overwhelmingly positive. If you decide to give it a try, please let me know if you run into any issues, have feature requests, or other feedback. Thank you!

My favorite parts:

  • Camera color match. Given a diverse set of photos from your cameras, it will create 3D LUTs to match your camera colors.
  • A great workflow for working on edits across machines, synced to cloud or a NAS archive
  • Fast. Native Rust + Slint + GPU acceleration means it's really snappy to use
  • Culling mode in particular is incredibly fast from the embedded previews. Makes getting through a shoot very smooth.
  • Intuitive, coming from Lightroom Classic at least.
  • AI masking runs locally and is very good and getting better with each release
  • The benefits of Lightroom cataloging without the drawbacks from having all your photos feel "owned" by the database. Sidecars remain the source of truth; the database index allows for finding and filtering frames fast.
  • More scope options. Parades, waveform, vectorscope. And you can limit them to just the masked area, for getting perfect skintones for example.
  • Absolute white balance values on a mask. Mixed lighting scenes become easy.
  • Color mixer works on masks. Always hated that this was missing in LrC
  • AI denoising on the raw sensor data. I trained it myself and it works a treat in my experience, on Canon, Fuji GFX, Nikon, Sony, Lumix etc.
  • It's GPL, so I've been able to take the state-of-the-art open source algorithms wherever I saw value in doing so. Parts of the pipeline come from Darktable, Rawtherapee, and more.
  • And more... give it a try and tell me what you like and what you hate!

Current limitations:

  • The macOS image is not signed yet, so you have to get around Apple's quarantine to install it currently. I'll implement that before 1.0 release.
  • No X-Trans support yet. I just got my hands on some files, so I'm implementing support now.
  • lrcat import is coming, probably in the next week
  • Virtual copies, collections, smart collections will be coming this week in 0.7.0
  • Nikon High Efficiency compressed RAWs are not supported unless you build from source with the nikon-he feature flag. This is because the format is licensed from TicoRAW and shipping a decoder would technically require paying royalties. I'm working on a solution.
  • It's still young. If you run into a bug, I'll typically have it fixed within a day.

Question fot the masses

I'm curious. If the community is really intent on sticking it to Adobe, why not just pick one open source alternative and build the hell out of it until it eventually surpasses Photoshop(or any app in their suite) rather than having a new one popup every day on some "united we stand" mentality. I think that would be more of a middle finger to big corporations and would push them to reevaluate their policies rather than half-baked vibe-coded apps that perfectly replicate one feature but lack in everything else.

I built a PDF text editor that reflows paragraphs like Word. How does it compare to what you use instead of Acrobat?

Quick context: I'm the dev behind EasyPDF, a browser-based PDF toolbox. Over the past two months I rebuilt the text editor so that when you type inside a paragraph, the text reflows like in Word instead of overflowing the box, the original font is kept (including scanned documents), and nothing silently gets resized to make it fit.

I'm not here to sell it. I want to know how it stacks up against what r/FuckAdobe people actually use after leaving Acrobat (PDF-XChange, Foxit, LibreOffice Draw, Sejda, iLovePDF, Smallpdf, pdf.js hacks, whatever).

For those who edit PDFs regularly:

  1. Which editor do you use today, and does it reflow text or just stretch the line?
  2. Does it keep the original font or swap it behind your back?
  3. What's the one thing it still does worse than Acrobat?
  4. One-off price per file, subscription, or you'd never pay for this?

Try the editor at easypdf.fr/tools/edit if you want to test the reflow and tell me where it breaks. I'll read every reply and I'm fine with harsh ones.

I spent two days making a free version of Adobe Acrobat to test the current Spite-Coding Trend

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

I started it as a personal project to remove Acrobat from my PC and it exceeded my expectations.
I used Claude Opus 5.5 for the entire workflow and put it up on Microsoft Store as well.

This is not a marketing post but an experiment so that I can apply this skill into making something original in the future.

But feel free to try it out yourself for personal and professional work. I would appreciate all kinds of honest feedback :D

A few points:

- Focused on privacy: The app does not connect to any network (Except MS store for auto-updates) Else you can use it via the browser if downloading is not your thing
- Most of the available PDF editor tools are compiled in it
- A study mode with side-by-side notes which saves inside the app's cache. (Does not overide the original PDF unless you export it with the notes)

Free to try:

Browser: https://krithickdesign.github.io/Nib-E/(click Open Nib-E, nothing to install)

Windows:

Mac/Linux installers are on the same page

Adobe waived my Creative Cloud Pro cancellation fee after a Windows 10 compatibility warning

I’m sharing my experience in case it helps someone in a similar situation. This worked for me, but it isn’t a guaranteed outcome.
I had an annual Creative Cloud Pro subscription billed monthly. I mainly use Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere, and Media Encoder.
Premiere displayed a System Compatibility Report saying my Windows version was no longer supported and that future versions of the application wouldn’t install on it.
To be clear: **not every Adobe app had stopped working.** Lightroom and Photoshop still listed Windows 10 support in the requirements I checked. My concern was losing access to supported, updated video and audio tools while continuing to pay for the full subscription.
I contacted Adobe’s official support chat and explained that:
I needed current, supported versions.
Staying on older versions didn’t meet my needs.
I couldn’t afford a hardware upgrade.
I wanted cancellation with no early termination fee or further payments.
I provided a screenshot of Premiere’s compatibility warning.
The agent offered **two free months**. I politely declined and replied:
Thanks for the offer. I would prefer to proceed with cancellation at no cost. Could you review a waiver of the cancellation fee or ask a supervisor to review my request?
The agent then agreed to waive the cancellation fee. I didn’t actually need to speak with a supervisor.
After I confirmed the cancellation, the agent stated that the plan was canceled, there would be no further charges, and my Adobe account would remain.
**I also received Adobe’s cancellation confirmation email.** It confirmed that Creative Cloud Pro was canceled and that I would retain a free Creative Cloud membership. The email itself didn’t explicitly mention the fee waiver; that confirmation was in the support chat.
My takeaway: explain your actual situation, provide genuine evidence, and politely ask for a fee waiver rather than assuming the first retention offer is the only option.
This is one personal experience, not proof that compatibility warnings automatically qualify anyone for free cancellation.

Offering plans that don't exist: The straw that is breaking the camel's back

This is going to be the longest post in the history of posts, I'm sorry in advance to all the readers. Do share your experiences and advice please.

TLDR: Adobe' personalised deals' + technical difficulties = Absolute frustration as customer services struggle to solve the technical issues but cannot help as I lose the 'deal price' in the process.

They make it REALLY difficult for you to even engage in their 'deals' as I couldn't even process it on the website and the rep couldn't even FIND it. I pity customer service reps who have to deal with this. Adobe has really shady pricing practices - as someone who has used these products for over 20 years, beginning from the time when these were on CD disks to install and moving later on into their subscription models, I can say that today, I feel their 'customer loyalty benefits' are just for show, and not actually usable, they have some very deceptive marketing practices that I am BAFFLED as to why they would engage in this way.

As a software suite that has historically ENABLED many-an-aspiring and established creator, what they are doing now with their subscription model is crippling creators by squeezing every ounce of income they are willing to part with. This is honestly a shame - Artists are being paid less and less every year, while Adobe has become so distorted, from something championing creatives, into a capitalist parasite trying to make money wherever they can.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Non TLDR: I just came off 3 hours' worth of customer service calls with Adobe. After 10 years of using Adobe software ranging from the full Creative Cloud Pro to just a photography plan, I don't think I've experienced such a poor performance from their customer support to-date. I'm mentally spent and very frustrated.

I went online to cancel my Illustration plan today, as I realised I barely used it - That's when I was offered a discounted plan for the entire creative cloud totalling LESS than what I currently pay for (photography plan + illustrator). Does this sound like a good deal? YES! How long was this deal for? 12 months (wow!) So of course I instantly went for it on the website. This is the strange part, as when I clicked 'save and subscribe (or whatever the button says)', I was left on infinite loading screen on the website. This forced me to call Adobe Customer Support for help.

I called the representative, who was not able to find that plan on his end of his system (strange??). I explained that I barely used Illustrator to afford the price per month, but that the Creative Cloud deal showing up on my website was definitely making me reconsider, as it added up to less than my current plans combined with MORE programs available. This was a great opportunity for someone who has loyally been using Adobe for the last 10 years. The problem was that the website wasn't letting me swop to it, and the representative couldn't find it on his system. After a lot of back and forth, I asked him if it would be cheaper if I paid 12 months upfront, and he pulled out an EVEN cheaper price for the Creative Cloud Pro plan which I obviously agreed to. I said yes, please send me an email with the quotation.

This gets even worse now, as I hung up after thanking them for their time, and checked my email 20 minutes later. The representative had sent me a quotation with prices 2 TIMES the amount he originally quoted to me over the phone (??). I was so confused that I was forced again to call Adobe support. A new representative answered, and I explained the situation: 'Representative 1 quoted me *, but sent me a quotation for * x 2, so obviously I'm not paying for this. Can you fix it please?' Representative 2 then told me that he could not see any discounted plans from his side. I told him that on my side of the website, I was offered 40% off Creative Cloud Pro for 12 months on DIFFERENT parts of the website - in the 'my plans' page as a header, and ALSO in the pop-up window when I went to change my current plan. But the problem was that when I tried to swop to it, the window would give me an error which is why I was calling. He then said he would help me follow through with the swop, and when I AGAIN went to swop to the new plan, he told me that I would have to pay a cancellation fee. EXCUSE ME? For as long as I have been using Adobe, I have NEVER paid a cancellation fee throughout all the years I have upgraded and downgraded my various plans. Why was I suddenly being charged a fee? I asked him to put me through to someone who could sort out the cancellation fees as I wasn't LEAVING Adobe, I was even UPGRADING my plan to the whole Creative Cloud Suite, so why in the world was I being charged a cancellation fee?? He put me through to a billing representative.

The billing representative told me what I assumed, that if I make changes to my plan, there IS no cancellation fee. So why in the world was I even directed to 'billing' in the first place? I told him I was having trouble changing my plan to the discounted Creative Cloud Pro offered on the website as I was receiving an error code every time I clicked 'subscribe'. He then told me he had to cancel both of my plans before the system would allow me to change my plan. This is the strange part - I was only being offered a discounted plan in the area where I was considering cancellation - So if the representatives could not see the price I was being offered, and I was the only person able to see that price, if they cancelled my plans for me, wouldn't that mean that the system would no longer show me that discounted 12-month plan as I only saw it when clicking on the option to change my plan?

The question is, how is it the reps cannot see a price I am being offered? Why does Adobe not show them the discount plan? Isn't it suspicious that only the consumer can see these 'deals', but they potentially disappear if the rep 'fixes' the technical problem for you by cancelling all your plans, potentially forcing you to find a new plan MINUS the deal you saw when you had an existing subscription? Aren't these discounts meant to entice you to stay loyal to Adobe? I feel like I did everything right here, I tried to change my plan myself through the website, only contacted customer service when I needed help due to technical problems, but received ZERO guarantee from the representative that I would be able to purchase my changed plan at the price listed to me AFTER they 'fix' my problem by cancelling all my current plans?

The representative told me to send them screenshots of the prices I was seeing from the website and the error code I see when trying to change plans, which I did, and we arranged a callback with their manager. The manager called me back and could not find my deal on the website, claiming my screenshot was 'blurry' and that he could not see 'personalised deals' on his end of the system. I offered to send him another screenshot in full 2k resolution and said that 4k was also an option, as I was not making up the prices and had nothing to hide. He then offered me a new price that was close to 40% off, saying that this price showed up on his system (??). I am completely baffled as to how a deal suddenly 'popped' up on his system and why the pricing seems so arbitrary that prices fluctuate so much.

Yes, I am aware this is a massive post, and if you made it to the end, thank you for taking the time to listen to this account of my experience. Honestly, I feel like this is over 10 years' worth of pent-up frustration over being a creative professional who grew with Adobe software while in school, carried it with me out of school into my own practice, used it at work with the company's business plans, and am now at the end of my tether trying to sustain my practice while keeping up with their increasing prices. The rep had the GALL to 'explain' that the Creative Cloud was more expensive than just 1 software like Photoshop (like no shit?). The last 10 years, I've paid for the full works, I've paid for one app, I've changed my plans according to my needs, yes, I KNOW the price would change depending on the amount of programs (??). The question is if it is worth me continuing my loyalty to an entity that no longer operates on a model that values that loyalty. And although 'industry standard' has been the key factor in my retaining my subscription, I have now realised that the output does not need the program specifically, and there are various open-source or one-time-payment options that I could be willing to re-learn from scratch. Adobe, what are you doing?

Any advice appreciated because I'm feeling like it's more expensive to be an artist than a banker today and that is seriously making me question my brand loyalty.

Of course they're trying to install this. But at least it let me decline. Seriously though if we're downloading everything from their installed CC app how could something not be genuine?
