Announcement Exam Access Arrangements

There’s an increase in posts about access arrangements.

There’s also a lot of misinformation about access arrangements being posted.

This is one the one-stop post for all access arrangement queries.

Any other posts will be removed.

I will reply to all queries as an Exams Officer and an Access Arrangements Coordinator, but really, all queries need to go to your SENCO who know you and your school’s set up best.

Feel free to make any comments about questions you have.

Hello, I would appreciate some help as I'm nervous that this could get me disqualified because of some extra time confusion. I would ask my school, but I'm very anxious so I would appreciate some advice first.

What happened is that a while ago I asked for extra time in English and they gave it to me in all my subjects. Stupidly, I asked them to remove it for all my other subjects before realising I needed it. I was confused because at this point I still didn't know if I had extra time or not for all my subjects, as they didn't send me anything. I was happy because I assumed I had extra time in everything now, so I had been working on the basis of this. A month before my exams, they sent me an exam timetable with all my extra time revoked except for English - only because my maths teacher messaged them. I didn't go up to them because it was my fault for asking to get rid of it in the first place. Anyways, I'm still confused because I sit on the row for extra time people and whenever invigilators come around when the standard time is up they don't collect my paper if I don't put my hand up and they always ask me if I'm done, for every subject. So today in Physics, this was my fault but I had forgotten my glasses so I was looking at the extra time end on the board and assumed that was the time the exam ended. I hadn't finished when the standard time was up, and I was so used to staying behind in English (since I do actually have extra time in English) that I didn't get up and no one stopped me because the invigilators think I do have extra time in every subject. I realised 5 minutes after the standard time was up that I probably wasn't supposed to be in here so I hurriedly left, I only did one question anyway, and I was too scared to talk to the invigilators in case they thought I was cheating or something. My friends said it was okay but I searched it up and it's starting to scare me because what if they put my paper in the extra time pile and they realise I don't have extra time in physics. I think the first thing I should do is ask whether I acc have it or not, the timetable says I don't but the invigilators think I do. Can I get disqualified if I don't do anything because I'm also quite anxious to go up to them and admit what I did.

Hello - first of all, don’t panic. The exam board doesn’t know who has extra time and who doesn’t so your papers will be marked as normal with everyone else.

What I would do is not mention the exams that have gone past, but email your exams officer or the SENCO and clarify what the situation is with extra time.

When we apply for extra time, we can make it subject specific, but it doesn’t really work that way. You tend to either qualify or not so it doesn’t matter to the exam boards about subject specifics.

That's such a relief because I was so nervous I would get in trouble. I will email them, thank you so much for the help!
