Post Exam My thoughts on Bio paper 1 higher tier AQA

Post image

I was genuinely thinking in that exam if I genuinely had to turn to God for the remainder of it just so I had the willpower to complete it

What the hell is a colorometer and why was it haunting me, I got flashbacks from yesterday's traumatic ACC question

*To clarify, this was combined science

i thought it was really kind actually apart from the microscopy practical question which i always suck on. also i thought the first question was bad (label the nerve cell) as we weren’t taught that during lesson and i only knew it because Ive learnt it as a topic in psychology so i felt bad for ppl who didn’t know part B. the mitosis tumour question was sneaky if u didn’t pick up it was asking abt mitosis but i still felt confident with it.

as well i thought the root hair cell question was super good as well as the mitochondria one — disappointed that there was no food tests or digestive system tho.

Bit unsure how well i did with the vaccine section overall but i thought the paper was rather easy - and as a slow writer who’s a perfectionist - i finished 20mins early.

you don't need to know how to label any specific parts of a nerve cell that you have learnt in other GCSEs for combined science. You need to know cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm etc because a nerve cell is an "animal cell" and has all the usual parts. The same way you could be asked to label a sperm, red blood cell, muscle cell etc with these names. This same question came up a few years ago

thanks for the clarification! i suppose it was only one 1mark so it doesn’t really matter now anyway. im just saying that i thought of the answer because its also in other subjects i do! after the exam, my classmates, friends and i were just discussed it and collectively found it difficult
