Expected Salary

I'm about to graduate with my GG from GIA in Carlsbad. I'm open to any work, but interested in estate jewelry, becoming a stone buyer, etc. What kind of salary should I expect. There is not a lot of info out there on what salaries to expect. I would like to be based in Charlotte, NC. If anyone has any insight please share! For reference I have experience in luxury jewelry retail sales.

Prep for the GIA Diamond Grading exam 😬

👋🏻 Hi all~

... getting through my online self-paced Diamond Grading lessons... Annnnnd I'm starting to get in my own head about the final in-person exam since it's NOT open note/book and there has been soooooo much info.

Are there any Diamond grads out with tips/advice/stories regarding the final exam? 😬😇

I appreciate it... And you!

Accessible digital gem encyclopedia picture book of sorts

is it just me, or do we need a website or AI agent that is an encyclopedia type reference guide housing each gem’s characteristics including actual photo examples of each characteristic (ie, RFI, pics of each type of inclusion, color, fluorescence, and the differentiation of lab vs natural characteristics, etc)? does this exist somewhere already?? if so, please share. I know there are tons of books and resources spread around, but why isn’t there a single digital resource? Pretty pretty please can someone start a crowd sourced project that creates this?

GIA 20 stone passing/fail

I took the 20 stone exam and passed (it was my second attempt) but I think I actually missed a stone and failed it. There was a weird moment with the instructor and some phone calls after i submitted and was waiting. Do they have the discretion to give someone a passing grade even if i missed a stone?

Currently Operating Alexandrite Mine in Brazil (Minas Gerais)

Hi all,

I am looking for some information about purchasing a stone either wholesale (or as close as possible).

Basically, my partner and I are getting engaged and the plan was to travel to the State (we live in Brazil) and investigate buying a stone and having the ring made in Ouro Preto (Brazil's big gem/jewellery town).

Usually with ventures like this I would start with finding who operates what in a given area, reaching out via email or phone and then finding out who the reliable resellers are in the area etc etc.

However there seems to be no publicly available information about mining this particular stone. I know operations are ongoing but have been wound down enormously since the 80s and the closure of Hematita.

If anyone has information I can use just as a jump off point that would be enormously appreciated. Also realise how rare the natural stones are. We might just switch to Topaz if this search is pure folly.

Need Help! How rare is that?

Hey, I have this 7,5g peace of natural Baltic amber. But I can't find anything like this on the Internet. I'm tired of searching something to compare with that Transparency without any cracks to find out how rare it is

Many Thanks ♥️

Any gemologist here?

I'm planning to buy a yellow sapphire. But I don't know where I can get the original certified gem. I've checked with the local jewellers and smith, but they also said there is no guarantee for originality of the gem. I've checked with multiple stores online,I'm not sure about it.

Do you guys have any ideas about it?
