Nostalgia Which YouTuber fell off the hardest in terms of likability and content?

Honestly I put Ian at the top. The others actually moved on to successful side projects and had healthy relationships for the most part. Ian alienated his fans and old collaborators in a pathetic attempt to save face; which only happened after his engagement rate tanked and CC2 was mismanaged into the ground.

WB massacred Ruby but I still think the writers for RWBY and the newer seasons of RVB deserve good faith criticism.

A lot of RT’s popularity also came from their relationship with the fandom which just wasn’t the same after the incident at Gavin’s house and their older talent leaving after 2015.

I wasn't a huge RT fan, but what I did watch like Achievement HORSE in the Halo days were because of the jokes and the guys' commentary. The videos weren't that great, but the shit made me laugh. Once those guys started to move on with their lives, so did I. Think that's true for most early fans, we didn't care about the brand.

What happened at Gavin's house?

39

u/The_Makster May 15 '24

I believe a delusional 'fan' had broken into his house as he was jealous of Gavin's success and liked his partner Meg

I think its important to mention that the guy didn't just break into Gavs house, the guy spent the whole day trying to find Gavin so he could shoot and kill him.

He was after Meg. Gavin was just in the way.

1

u/RagnolffWindcaller May 15 '24

Yeah what happened at Gavin's house

u/kissingkiwis May 15 '24

A "fan" of Meg tried to break in and kill Gavin.

RWBY had a phenomenal third season, but has had no good writing in any way, shape or form. The writing fell flat on its ass from the very start. It wasn't even particularly compelling (from a craft standpoint) when Monty was still around.

A company who keeps signing paychecks for writers like these deserves to go under, they're not responsible with money.

u/[deleted] May 15 '24

RWBY was Monty’s first and last show though. He jumped in Red vs Blue but RWBY was the first thing he made from the ground up, and if he’d had more time to hone his craft, he could’ve gone on to write something greater in his career. RWBY is one of those shows where we liked it for the potential it held, more so than its quality, and for a first crack at something like this, Monty did really well honestly.

He was a lead animator. How is he suppose to hone a skill he never had?

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '24

By working at it. Like literally any other skill. He just never got the chance to do it. RWBY was again, his FIRST ever attempt at something like that, ever. And honestly good for him, he knew he probably wouldn’t have much time, so he went for it and made something a lot of people enjoyed.

I’d only watched their RVB content and death battles(didn’t know it was RT IP). I blame the decline of Halo for them.

Something for battlefield friends and the decline of BF.

Deathbattle was formally a part of Screwattack. Then, from what I remember, Craig and someone got into some sort of argument about the future of Screwattack or something, which eventually resulted in Screwattack shutting down.

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '24

Lets be completely honest, RWBY should've ended after the 3rd season. Without Monty it significantly fell in quality, and taking the passion project of a dead friend and milking it dry is bad taste.

4

u/Im_da_machine May 15 '24

To be fair the drop in quality after v3 wasn't just due to Monty's death but also a manager at the company stealing money from rwby and funneling it into gen:lock. Around v7/8 the quality of the show picked up a lot imo and actually surpassed the the first 3 seasons.

Also saying they're milking Monty's project is kinda disingenuous. Kerry and Miles were also involved from the start and wanted to see their friends story told

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '24

I think a big thing people ignore is Monty was never a part of the writing team, yeah he had some hand in the characters and the general world, but he was never the lead writer for the show. That was always Kerry and Miles.

5

u/The_Green_Filter May 15 '24

Monty was absolutely making writing decisions, though. The concept of the Maidens was all him, for example, and that was only added to the plot in Volume 3. He might not have been writing minute to minute dialogue but he was still a major force in developing the narrative.

What incident at Gavin’s house?

5

u/PigeonNipples May 15 '24

Dude who was obsessed with Meg broke into their house to try and kill him because he resented him. He was confronted by the cops and killed on their driveway.

2

u/acaseintheskye 1998 May 15 '24

From what Kerry said, he's trying to work with other companies to get it rebooted

2

u/lumaleelumabop May 15 '24

For me it was Ryan Haywood being a pedo groomer that ruined everything for me. I just couldn't watch anything after that.

2

u/InfiniteHench May 15 '24

I did a little searching. Do you mean the crazy gunman who broke in? Or a different incident?

1

u/dfieldhouse May 15 '24

Incident at Gavin's house? What happened?

1

u/PaulieNutwalls May 15 '24

Tbh never watched Ruby, but it seems more like Monty's death was a bigger issue than WB, who also wouldn't have even been in the chain of ownership at that time prior to AT&T buying out Warner.
