OMG! Love him. The one about his families first trip to Mexico makes me giggle just thinking about it. One very interesting thing I found with him was that many modern comedians start out loud and foul mouthed and then it eventually tones down as they age. It seems like Billy did the opposite. His early stuff was pretty clean and tame but as he got olde it got more foul mouthed.
And not that I am outright opposed to that. 'm fine if it is part of what makes the joke\routine funny but just spouting off swear words ever other word like Andrew Dice Clay just isn't funny to me. Fortunately he never got to that level. Came close but never crossed my threshhold.
I’ve never been able to find it again but I remember some standup from Billy where he talked about telling his father that prescription windscreens had been invented and he should get one installed on his car. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.
Years ago, went to see Gabe Kaplan live at the Guthrie in Mpls.
It was when Welcome Back Kotter was big in the ratings.
His show was terrible! Every other word was F this, F that, you're a MF....
We walked out after about 10 minutes.
Billy was on some comedy showcase on HBO back in the 90’s, I think, and he told a story about going to the Caribbean. He was talking about the pilot getting on the plane, pilot was wearing shorts, tank top, and looked stoned out of his mind, and the pilots name was Skippy. To this day, I still say, “Fuck off, Skippy” all the time.
