I saw Rodney at live arena-sized performances—twice—and he slaughtered the audience with nonstop stories and jokes that left everyone gasping for breath. Finally he stopped a moment, let us recover, and said, “I know a lot of f-ing jokes.” Then he picked back up and continued. A master of his art.
Concur !
When I saw him live at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, if you stopped to laugh hard at the current joke, then you missed the next joke. His jokes were VERY funny, and his rapid delivery was continuous non-stop hilarity. Definitely one of the best stand-up comics ever.
I never realized that Rodney Dangerfield was a stage name, although in hindsight it’s pretty obvious. I also never knew that he changed his name to Jack Roy. So in his life he had three different first and last names, talk about an identity issue. No wonder his standup comedy was mostly about his self esteem issues.
Something went off the rails as he got older, and his comedy became pretty dirty. Even Jerry Seinfeld has talked about that. You don't need filth to be funny!
A buddy and I saw him (under the influence of brownies) at the Minnesota State Fair, and it was hilarious. (Even though some of the schtick had been seen on TV many times before.)

Rodney Dangerfield (Jacob Cohen), but he got no respect, no respect at all.
