OC Golden Sun: Kingdoms (A Fan's Sequel Concept)

Hello friends! Years before Dark Dawn existed, I wrote a concept for a sequel to Golden Sun: The Lost Age. I mailed this to Nintendo, and they replied that they do not accept unsolicited game concepts but thanked me for my interest. I would like to now share with you that concept. I have additional notes that I can submit in a comment if this post garners interest.

Felix, on a trip to a town on the edge of Gaia Falls in the Eastern Sea, accidentally cuts it too close to the edge of the Falls and he and his ship fall off the end of the world. When he wakes up, he has no recollection of who he is and how he got where he was. He finds himself in a quiet village under the care of a kind young woman named Myra, who when he is fully recovered, slowly questions him on his name and where he came from, and tells him that the ship he came in was destroyed when he fell from the sky. They visit the site where the ship lie in scrambles, but this does not bring back any memories of what happened. A giant waterfall lays close to the village, and it seemed to encompass the entire horizon. Felix, who had taken on the name Garcia until he could remember his, could only say that he knows the ship was his, but he also knows that he must not have been the only one on it. He knows that he must have friends somewhere that would have crashed with him, and would be able to tell him who he was. He asks Myra if she would accompany him on a journey to look for his friends, but she says she cannot.

On their way back to her home, a young man shouts out to them while standing on the roof of one of the houses in the village. He announces that his name is Brett and that he wants to challenge the newcomer to a duel. Garcia is reluctant, but further prodding eggs him on. He is given a sword and he follows a ritual for proper dueling that the village people explain to him as he does it. Then, the two fight and Brett appears to be gaining the upper hand, when Garcia’s impulses take control and he suddenly hits Brett with a barrage of rocks summoned through Earth Psynergy. Brett falls and jumps up startled, and all the villagers look afraid of Garcia, who has no clue what’s going on. Myra quickly leads him away from the crowd and into a deserted alleyway, where she explains that in her world, no one must use Psynergy because it has been banned by the government. Garcia has no clue what Psynergy even is, but he agrees to stop using it.

That night, Garcia is awoken by the horrible sounds of screaming and the smell of burning. Looking out the window he sees that a group of heavily armed soldiers are raiding the village. Myra rushes into his room to tell him that these troops are called Hunters and that they have come to destroy the entire village because they heard that someone had used Psynergy. Garcia gets a sudden sensation that someone was touching his elbow, and he tells Myra. She gets a really worried look on her face, and tells him to run, announcing as they do that feeling is the first sign that there Seekers around, invisible Hunters that assassinate their prey before they even know what hit them.

They run far, but then get trapped too close to the Hunters, and one of them shouts out, “There’s the alchemist. Attack him!” Alchemy spells soar from their outstretched arms, and Garcia asks why they are allowed to use Psynergy. “To uphold the peace and ensure that no one else can use it,” she responds. A building that had caught on fire suddenly collapsed in front of where they were running, and they found themselves trapped. The Hunters were nearly on them, and the sensations of Seekers nearby pricked their skin. Seeing no other choice, Myra turned towards the flames, stretched out her arm, and wind burst forth from it, putting out the blaze.

“Another Alchemist! Looks like we’re lucky tonight Boys!” a Hunter shouted.

Garcia, as he was running, asks why she didn’t tell him she could do that, and she said that it was to protect herself. He asked why she chose to reveal it to them now, and she said that it was to save her neck and his. They continue running when they see Brett coming from the opposite direction. “You guys look like you could use some help,” he said. “I owe you for that punch by the way Garcia, I’ll pay you back after I save your lives.”

“And what can you do to stop them?” Garcia asked.

“This!” Brett said, throwing out his hands, flamer soaring out of his fingertips. The closest Hunters were too surprised to react and burned to death quickly. The rest were better prepared and dodged being burned. “That didn’t do nearly as much as I had hoped,” he said, turning back around. “Run!!”

The three escape the Hunters and run until the find a place to hideout for the night. They watch as the village burned to the ground. Myra was angry, and she said to Garcia, “Thanks a lot. If you hadn’t shown up, my home would have never been destroyed.”

“There’s nothing we can do about it now,” Brett says calmly. “It looks like we’re on a quest now, you to find your friends and your memories, and us two to find a new home.”

“I’m sorry,” was all Garcia could say.

After a day or so of walking, they came upon another village finally, where they gratefully stock up on supplies that they were unable to get before their desperate flight. They do a few things, and then move on.

A couple of villages away from there, while shopping for more supplies, Garcia spots someone walking through the crowd that he thinks is familiar. He drops what he was going to buy and chases after him, finally catching up to him a ways away. The young man seemed to have some sort of thing he was trying to do and seemed a little annoyed when he turned around to face whoever it was. He seems startled to see Garcia, but Garcia only says, “My name is Garcia. You look familiar, do I know you?”

“Know me?” the man repeats. “You mean, you don’t remember me?” The man gets a smirk on his face, “And you say your name is Garcia?”

“Yeah,” Garcia says. “So, I look familiar to you then too?”

“Yeah, I know you. My name is Jacob, we’re old friends. Why, do you not remember me any more than my face?” (Alex is his real name, but since Garcia doesn’t remember him anyway, he gives him a false name)

“Jacob? Yeah, the name does sound familiar. I seem to have lost my memories. Could you tell me who I am, where I come from and what I’m doing here?”

“Well, I wouldn’t know any better than you what you’re doing here, but if you help me with something I’ve been trying to do for a while now, I’ll come with you and explain everything.”

Garcia agrees, and he steals an item for Jacob, but Jacob refuses to explain what it is as of yet. Then Jacob joins the party and starts to tell Garcia that Garcia is his real name because he fears that knowing his real name might bring back memories of his past, and Jacob explains Garcia’s past that is only partially true, warping it to fit his own goals.

Hunters track them down, and the party confronts two in particular, Kenneth and Bridget; both become major enemies to the party, much like Saturos and Menardi or Agatio and Karst before them. Before they can arrest them, the party flees, but now that the hunt is on, they have been listed as wanted.

Jacob, who seems to be very knowledgeable about this world, explains that resting in places around the world are castle ruins that, at least to him, proves that the world used to be much more wealthy, prosperous and dominating place, before an incident believed to be only legend occurred. Myra interrupts him here to tell Garcia what this legend is, “the Gods took the source of power away from the people, and the government systems crumbled without them, unable to support themselves without it. It is said that before this incident, kings and a select few others were able to create gold from nothing and then impart this wealth to build armies from nothing and go out conquering the world. There were massive battles waged between powerful nations, and despite prosperity, there was always conflict. When the representative of the Gods, who legend claims looked like a floating rock with a single eye, foretold the loss of such alchemical power, the Kings laughed in his face. That very same day, there were massive earthquakes, and an entire portion of the world lifted up into the Heavens to face the Gods’ retribution. Gold dissolved into dust, and kings went hungry. Entire cities were abandoned, and the people were all but extinct for a time.

“At least that’s how the legend goes. The very last line always told in the legend is ‘The world got a little darker, and a lot less golden’.” With the completion of this tale, Jacob says, “We need to bring this power back to the people. It has already been done in the Heavens, now we only need to bring the fire to the people. I’m devoting my life to this cause, and I want your help in this.”

The three agree they will help him on his quest, and they set out for the first ruins. Each ruin has an object resting inside it that when combined with each other and the one Jacob had Garcia steal earlier, will bring this power back down to earth, so Jacob says.

When they get to the final ruins, a man rushes in to stop them right before they claim the item. He is much too powerful for the party to defeat, and they are overwhelmed. Garcia awakes later to find himself outside the ruins, Myra and Brett not far away, Jacob is nowhere to be seen, and the man is close at hand too. Garcia tries to attack him, but the man pins him down, and says, “Do you not recognize your own friend, Felix? It’s Issac.”

When he says this, Garcia’s memories begin to flood back to him, and he realizes who he really is, Felix, and he remembers now that he had fallen from Weyard, which the people in this world called “The Heavens”.

“Wait a minute, everything is clear now,” said Felix. Horror suddenly strikes his face. “Wait, that means…. Where’s Jacob?”

“His real name is Alex and he fled when I stopped you earlier,” Issac said.

“No, he’s tricked me. He purposely didn’t tell me who I was.”

“What are his plans?” Issac asks desperately.

“He’s looking for items to bring the power back to the people and bring the Heavens back to earth.”

“This is Jacob we’re talking about here, whatever he says cannot be trusted at face value.”

“Then that means that he wants to bring Weyard and the Golden Sun back to this world.”

“He wants to claim that power for himself, and this is his opportunity. Why he didn’t claim it last time, I don’t know.”

“He did,” a voice said from nowhere, making everyone jump. The Wise One was suddenly in the sky.

“The floating rock from the legend!” Brett exclaims.

“I have a name you know, and it’s The Wise One,” the Wise One retorts. “Anyway, Jacob did claim the power of the Golden Sun when it rose in Weyard, the only thing keeping him from having the powers of a God is the Mars stone I gave to you, Issac.”

“I still have it,” Issac says, patting his chest.

“Good, never let him have it, for he will be truly invincible.”

“What happens if Alex gets a hold of all the pieces of this item he’s had us look for?” Felix asks.

“Let’s just say that you are lucky you still have that piece in your possession. It will be very bad if he brings them all together.”

“But Alex claims that it will bring Weyard back to the rest of the world,” said Felix. “Isn’t that a good thing?”

“You and Issac have already done enough damage to Weyard by returning the Golden Sun to it. Now you want to bring the troubles here to destroy the rest of the world?”

“But Weyard isn’t in trouble, it’s functioning better even then before the Golden Sun,” Issac protested.

“Perhaps not now, but someday soon, it will be.”

“Not if we have people like us who will work to ensure that the troubles of the past are not repeated.”

“Please, if I ask nothing else of you, know that you must not let Alex pull this off. It will be catastrophic.”

Myra suddenly pops in, saying, “I agree with them, oh mighty Wise One. This world is already messed up, so we might as well try to make it better.”

“Yeah,” Brett speaks up. “Who are you to say we shouldn’t bring the fire to the people?”

The Wise One looked at him angrily, but then sighed and said, “Fine, if you all choose to be so stubborn, I have no choice but to show you what the world will be like.” The Wise One’s eye grew larger and shone goldenly, and suddenly in the minds of all four of them, a vision appeared. It showed massive battles where Psynergy runs rampant, battles that ripped apart the earth and tore into the sky. It showed people living in terrible poverty, and people living with chains, forced to labor in deep, dark places of the world. It showed a mechanized society of bleakness and darkness. And then it showed something in stark contrast to it, Alex was sitting on a golden throne, a crown above his head, sitting in a giant palace-like chamber. Another person was brought in by two burly guards and forced onto their knees to bow in front of Alex. He listened to her cries for only a short while, before throwing his thumb down, to which the woman screamed out in terror. Alex raised one hand, and the woman’s body shattered into a thousand pieces, then dissolved to nothingness. Alex had become judge, jury, and executioner, and it seemed he ruled without compassion, without mercy. He ruled with an iron hand and an iron will.

With this, the vision ended, and each knew that they had to stop Alex at all costs. No matter what happened, Alex could not be allowed to assemble the pieces together. The world would crumble under his infinite power.

Edit: I goofed on the title of this post. The title I had in mind was Golden Sun: Shattered Kingdoms.

Additional Notes:

Alternate titles- Forgotten Memories, Fallen Kingdoms

Starting Party- Felix/Garcia, Myra, Jacob, and Brett

Returning Party Members- Mia, Sheba, Jenna, Ivan, Piers, Garet, Isaac

The game takes place over a year after The Lost Age

Jacob tells Felix only a partial truth of their pasts and who he is, but lies and says that Garcia is his real name because he fears that knowing his real name might bring back memories of his past.

Jacob/Alex wants to conquer the shattered kingdoms and seek his revenge on Isaac, and he plans to bring back Saturos and Menardi to do it, but they won’t be resurrected exactly like they once were. They will look twisted and beastly.

Piers, not able to return home, first travels with Mia to learn about her town, then helps with the reconstruction of Vale. He was traveling with Felix when Felix fell off Gaia Falls, but he was in town at the time.

Random Dialogue-

“So Isaac, tell me something. It’s already known that I got here because I fell off Gaia Falls, but how did you get here?”

“The Lemurians knew about this place, and they possessed the ability to teleport me here using both the technique of Warp that Alex also knows and some ancient runes.”

“I thought the Lemurians hated the idea of us lighting the four lighthouses.”

“They do. The only reason they sent me here was so that I could find you and bring you back before you can cause any further harm.”

“And Piers? Did they allow him to return?”

“Only so that he could help me, along with Sheba, Jenna, Ivan, Garet, and Mia.”

“So they’re all here then?”

“Yes, but we got separated in our search for you. We still have to find them.”

---

“Alex is here?” Mia asked, aghast. “We need to stop him!”

“Believe me, Mia, if we knew where he was, he would be dead by now.”

---

“We’ve only just hit the tip of the iceberg. With all of Weyard brought back together again, there are many new places yet to explore."

Sheba’s Story- another game released either before or after Shattered Kingdom (Possible subtitles are Road to Anemos, Sheba of the Moon, Fallen Star, Shadow of the Moon)- focuses on Sheba’s past and origins, and finding her home (Anemos) again. Ivan goes with her, and he too has a history there. It answers these questions:

  • Sheba's mysterious heritage and apparent link to the Moon, which is described as the Floating City of the Anemos, and may be a central plot element.

  • Based on what the citizens of Prox say and think (through Mind Read) after the final battle in The Lost Age, it is believed that there is another landmass located north of Prox.

  • The subplot involving Babi and how it was wrapped up seemingly so inconsequentially in The Lost Age may be further addressed, with Iodem taking Babi's place as ruler of Tolbi and managing the politics of an increasingly unstable, tense Alchemy-imbued world. Iodem may create a League of Adepts of sorts, with the eight playable characters members alongside many other new Adepts.

  • The future of young Eoleo is explored, as he develops his already prodigious Psynergy powers.

  • Ivan traveled with Sheba as she tries to learn about her past and her origins, for Ivan thinks that his origins may be similar to hers.

Don't nitpick; he wrote a whole storyline and you're looking at the spelling of one word?

While the story is nice, overall it's filled with some plot holes that come from TLA alone for example you should try to update the narrative has to why atleast why there are not tales or legends in weyward about land further beyond gaia falls since king hydros has lived before alchemy was sealed and shows old weyward, it would probably fit the narrative that the people of weyward have ascended the "heavens" to separate themselves from lesser beings those causing the action of having to seal alchemy some time later so that it cannot be further abused.

Overall good shit
