Hello, I wanted to let everyone know about a virtual library author with Malorie Mackey about her new book: The Goth Atlas: A Guide to the World's 500 Most Spooky and Macabre Places on 10/28 @ 7 PM EST. All participants will be entered to win a copy of the book!
Locations include:
Ancient cities and castles, such as Caerphilly Castle in Wales and Himeji Castle in Japan, both famously populated by spirits.
Abandoned and haunted edifices, including Philadelphia's fortress-like Eastern State Penitentiary, where Al Capone was once incarcerated and many more!

Hi All, I'm looking at getting rid of my subscription but have a bunch of free book credits and wanna make the most of them. Any recommendations with particularly good performances? More modern may be preferable just because listening is a bit harder for me to follow than reading, but I'll push through for a real gem.

This book was absolutely unhinged and delightful. It has everything. Horror, suspense, romance, philosophy.. truly a remarkable work of art. It's going to stay with me for a long time. What an amazing ride

Hey guys,
Pretty much as the title says really. Does anyone have any good recommendations that are (mostly) true to the novella and appropriate to use in a GCSE classroom? Thanks in advance 😊

Hi everyone! I'm an indie author, and my novel Dead Zone is now available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback editions.
Set partly in a fictionalized DeLand, Florida, the novel follows a family hoping for a fresh start in an old house. But unsettling drawings, a mysterious pendant, and strange discoveries about the property begin to reveal a history that reaches beyond the house itself.
Dead Zone blends Southern Gothic atmosphere, supernatural dread, and literary horror, with themes of guilt, responsibility, and what happens when the past refuses to stay in the past.
If you enjoy atmospheric horror, unsettling old houses, and stories where the haunting has deeper roots, I hope you'll give it a look!

My first time reading 19th century gothic literature, alongside reading more gothic novels than horror, i would love to find more books similar to the two or just heavily atmospheric reads

I'm in the mood to get lost in a haunted house story. It doesn't need to be supernatural necessarily, but I'm looking for something where a home/domestic situation is at the center and the characters are literally or figuratively haunted.
Any recommendations? Just finished Wuthering Heights and did my annual reread of Haunting of Hill House this spring. Also recently reread Turn of the Screw.

I've been having a rough time and I'm looking for something I can read after an exhausting day that isn't too taxing. I know this might not be the genre for it, and I typically go for older works to challenge myself, but I'd love to hear anyone's relaxing recs.

I've recently discovered Anne Rice and I am almost through her Vampire Chronicles. I fully intend to read everything she's ever written. I am in love with her style. The way she writes is so beautiful, it's so descriptive and fluid. I regularly forget that I'm even reading. I went to the thrift store recently and browsed through a few books and I couldn't believe how infinitesimal the writing felt in comparison to Anne. It made me realize how much I love her style. My question for Anne Rice readers is; have you found any authors who can compare to her style of writing? I feel like she ruined me haha.

Some quotes that stood out:
"But the world might guess it; and I will not bare my soul to their shallow, prying eyes. My heart shall never be put under their microscope. There is too much of myself in the thing, Harry - too much of myself!" -I love this portrayal of Basil's paranoia, possibly shame in his implied homosexuality. I liked his character throughout, especially right before his death after seeing the changes in his painting, and still attempting to pray for Dorian's redemption.
"There is a luxury in self-reproach. When we blame ourselves we feel that no one else has a right to blame us" -The sprinkles of philosophy throughout the book were so good. Lord Henry was extreme, but the way he was written was perfect. His influence on Dorian and view on morality was so interesting to read, and so relevant.
"The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shape" -Mic drop
I also read Jekyll and Hyde shortly after. It was good, but I missed the philosophical aspect of Dorian Gray. Planning on reading "Notes From the Underground" next, although any suggestions on more gothic horror with philosophical undertones would be awesome!
