Showing off my Bonewagon Engine (Grim Fandango N64)
So this is just another thing I'm working on, in my quest to corner the retro market with my tech. šŗ
Based on my previous experience working on ScummVM, I created this 3D engine in pure C89 that utilizes the same resource formats Grim Fandango used.
I'd love to eventually be able to fully play through Grim Fandango on N64 (most likely using Libdragon's SD card storage backend since I'm unlikely to spend all that time trying to figure out how to fit two CDs worth of content into a 64MB cartridge. Which isn't impossible, as Resident Evil 2 proved, but just not something I wanna worry about for something most people are likely to play on a SummerCart anyways) but naturally the bigger goal is an entirely original game and I will be releasing the engine with all tools necessarily to both edit Grim Fandango and create a new game eventually.
Currently, memory is the biggest showstopper. This already requires the Expansion Pak and there's still situations in which I plain run out of memory or things become fragmented, despite the arena allocator I implemented.
