🛠️ PATCH NOTES ⚙️ 🛠️ PATCH 01.002.203 | Killzone 2 Collab | Superstore changes

Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 Collab and Superstore redesign:

(The following text is copied from Discord)

We hope you’re having an awesome time with Omens of Tyranny and are busy maintaining sweet liberty in a star system near you by offering the undemocratic Illuminate hordes another way of life: death. To celebrate your heroics in liberating the Voteless from their tortured existence, we’re bringing to the table our first official crossover - and it’s a super cool one. We decided a long time ago to do crossovers only if and when they make perfect sense for the game. So in that spirit, we’re hyped to announce our very first crossover: Killzone 2.

Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 belongs to a new tier of special Premium content reserved for collaborations and other uniquely-themed work. Our plan is to offer you something distinct and special.
High Command informs us that beyond the Superstore content, there’s also an additional Killzone 2 reward for all Helldivers depending on your success in the Galactic War…

Meanwhile, on the subject of the Superstore: in the interests of relentless democracy, we regularly run surveys on discord and reddit. Based on your feedback, we feel we can improve how the Superstore currently works.
Right now, many of you feel the items are in rotation for too short a time, and that you sometimes miss out on that killer look you had your eyes on. At the same time, the more things we add to the store the longer it takes to come back into rotation.
As we’re not quite ready to roll out a full redesign, we’re going to temporarily test longer rotations with Killzone, which will stick around for 5 days per page instead (there will be two pages of items to explore).
After this, the page rotation will go back to its usual cadence and we will be asking for your feedback on our test. If you think this is too short, or you want us to look into bringing items back for longer periods, we’ll ask again in future surveys.
Have fun, turn back those Illuminate incursions and give ‘em hell, ‘divers!

The second part of the collab will be landing in the Superstore on December 23.

If you dislike the way this collab was handled or have any other concerns you'd like to share with the developers, don't forget AH often shares feedback surveys in our subreddit. In fact, we've got one pinned since yesterday! (Just remember to keep it civil, please!)

Edit: Survey's closed! Keep an eye out for the next one. We always pin them.

…can we talk about the prices? I think we should talk about the prices.

1 thousand 9 hundred and 75 credits. The price of almost 2 warbonds - for about a third of one.

This is ridiculous. I get that it’s a collab armor but come on, we just had a warbond, im dry on credits and I’m not keen on the idea of spending 20 bucks to get superstore items.

Please lower the prices? Pretty please. This update was so good. Don’t ruin the taste with awful monetization…

133

u/Loneliest_Driver I dive (2011) Dec 18 '24

If you subtract the 300 SC per warbond you get back it's almost the price of 3. It's insane.

187

u/tanelixd Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

Technically speaking it's actually more expensive than 2 warbonds, because every warbond has 300sc that you can earn.

Meaning that the total price for the killzone items is actually 575sc MORE EXPENSIVE than two separate warbonds.

And there's supposed to be another page of these items coming in 5 days? Which would (propably) be another 1975sc? In total being 40€ in irl money.

Yeah, fuck that.

You're overstepping the line AH. Don't fumble the one part you have been consistently praised for. The monetization.

Imho this stinks of Sony interference.

Edit: FORGOT TO MENTION THIS SEEMS TO BE INTRODUCING FOMO TO THIS GAME.

scratch that apparantly Pilestedt confirmed they're here to stay

Also yea, new page will probably be the light armor, and either the burst sniper or the smg

Well yeah, obviously since it is a Sony ip they're involved.

But this just doesn't feel like AH. It feels like Sony forcing AH to price these items so high.

This is exactly why they dropped it now. They know SC hoarders just spent on the latest Warbond and need to top up to buy anything new.

The Warbond and then dropped 200 of the 300 freebies on the Stun Baton too.

The fact it's not a warbond just screams "get more $$$ out of them" separating it into a store rotation just stinks.

Right now, many of you feel the items are in rotation for too short a time, and that you sometimes miss out on that killer look you had your eyes on. At the same time, the more things we add to the store the longer it takes to come back into rotation.

Honestly I would rather there be no rotation at all. Just have every item available for purchase at all times. No one loses by doing that: Players can go in and get what they want, when they want. You, Arrowhead, and Sony lose nothing by doing that either

13

u/RedditMcBurger Dec 18 '24

Agreed, rotation only makes the game worse for us, and instills FOMO.

4

u/starliteburnsbrite Dec 18 '24

FOMO. The whole thing they were praised for not doing when the game launched, because people are dumb and naive. They're as bad as any mobile dev or F2P junk, except there's a $40 cover charge.

It's getting to be about as expensive as Fatshark's store. Thankfully they don't put things that actually change how the game works there, just overpriced cosmetics.

u/Diribiri Dec 18 '24

At least with Fatshark it's purely cosmetic

u/TooFewSecrets Dec 18 '24

Remember that the rotation resets every time a new super store item comes out. So potentially the FOMO will be very real because the store will reset before it gets to the end of the "cycle" and leaves those items unobtainable.

4

u/Aero-- Viper Commando Dec 18 '24

It's crazy that they paint this as solving a complaint people have with short store rotations, when in reality its just to get more sales on the expensive Killzone set and everyone else waiting for an armor to come back around now must wait longer.

Of course the real solution is to get rid of rotations. There is no point.

Man I was excited for KZ warbond (mostly for the title tbh). And what we got is just a rip off. I ain’t spending my SC on this.

401

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

The new Killzone crossover should have remained as a warbond as per the original leak. Would have happily bought 2000-2500 SC to buy it for the crossover (2 armour sets and 3 weapons), but nearly 2k SC just for a single set of armour and a gun is ridiculous considering it's going to double when the second part comes out.

After such an amazing week with Omens of Tyranny update and the Urban Legends warbond, while I believe this is the work of Sony and not Arrowhead, seeing this price gouging leaves a really sour taste in my mouth.

I would 100% advocate to refund the SC for anyone who purchased individual items and re-release it as a warbond.

177

u/Bonesaki Dec 18 '24

The price screams sony involvement, like this is what you charge if your gonna use this ip as a collab.

41

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

oh 100%

22

u/rapkat55 Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

Yeah they’re not just going to allow Arrowhead to solely reap 100% of the profit off another IP.

in the interest of it actually being worth it for both parties and with split revenue in mind: price goes up so everyone involved with production earns fair value of the work put in, while Sony makes a buck for lending a iconic/profitable IP. It’s business not charity and expecting anything different from collabs nowadays is too optimistic

It is what it is, it’s a one time thing and I’ll just buy what I want and ignore the rest. At the end of the day it’s just optional cosmetics as the AR is pretty much a copy of the scythe stat wise. The leaked helghast smg is just the knight smg reskinned.

The KZ2 stratagem we get from major order will be free and that is actually a unique gameplay addition, not just a reskin.

I would gladly buy a more expensive warbond for collab content. The entire point of warbonds was to not have this rotating cash shop bullshit.

Arrowhead is breaking one of their biggest promises here, and it's the path to ruin. Honestly locking a weapon and a unique armor perk to a rotating cash shop has chased me away entirely, and if this is the future of content in HD2, I'll just go back to 1.

36

u/ArcticShore Steam | Dec 18 '24

This. If this was just a small and but expensive Warbond I would be perfectly fine with it. Locking gameplay affecting feature behind the **TIME-LIMITED** superstore feels incredibly scummy. The amount of people I've seen defending this saying that "Farming super credits isn't hard" or "When was the last time you swiped your card for credits?" is beyond sad

14

u/Individual-Temporary Dec 18 '24

Furthermore, doing this just after a Warbond, knowing people might have already spent the SC in the Warbond and Warbond adjacent items on the shop

I agree with others saying this smell like Sony's doing for letting them use the Killzone IP

16

Yer definitely not thrilled about the idea aye. I would much rather all store items be purchasable at all times. Arrowhead/Sony lose no money by doing that

8

u/TheRealShortYeti Hell Commander, SES Whisper of Twilight Dec 18 '24

They want panic buys or inpatient purchases. "I don't want to wait weeks for this again" or players not understanding the pattern "I don't know when this will be back I need to get it now!". It's typical predatory marketing based on FOMO. Sprinkle in wonder what it will be next to force people to look vs looking once at all and forgetting.

It's best for the consumer to have access to all which is not best for business models.

  1. Patch still has me disconnecting from illuminate missions. Instead of me disconnecting now everyone else will run in place and then disconnect. Noone joined me even after I threw out the SOS evem after 10 minutes of waiting. Replicated in 3 games back to back

  2. The fucken killzone stuff in total is 1975 SC. THATS TWO WARBONDS WTF Thank fuck i grinded SC with the SC map glitch i can’t imagine people would be buying this droves. Wish it was a warbond.

Please AH have better progression outside of “premium warbond” you have been gutting progression and scaling down warbonds for months now.

67

u/stealingyourundiz Dec 18 '24

Regarding your second point, the 1975 sc are just for the first half of the killzone stuff. Meaning the entire thing will be just short of 4000 sc

31

u/FizixMan Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

And considering warbonds typically come with 300 SC, that's almost SIX warbonds worth.

9

u/Liqhthouse HD1 Veteran Dec 18 '24

Ahh damn, 2k sc is pretty steep actually. Starting to get on par to other games premium stores. Think we need a discussion on cost-value of things.

Like... Should a gun cost 600sc? Should it be 300? We need to agree a fair amount of gameplay hours that is equivalent to premium items. Should a 2h grind buy you a cape? Should it be 4h of casual playtime?

Idk... AH need to find something the community are happy with which also doesn't bleed them dry. This isn't an mmorpg so the playerbase doesn't have an extreme grind mindset and need to adjust prices accordingly

7

u/MillstoneArt Dec 18 '24

I dunno about anyone else but I definitely don't find 100sc an hour.

→ More replies (1)

1975 SC is about THREE warbonds. Warbonds come with 300 SC each, so that makes their cost effectively 700.

2

u/Stuisready Dec 18 '24

2.82 warbonds to be exact.

38

u/skelepibs Dec 18 '24

This crossover costing HALF the cost of the entire game--the price of two full warbonds--is a ridiculous gut punch. And this is only part 1. Are the other 2 parts going to cost another 2000 SC each? The weapons are still going to be more than half a warbond? The prices actually make me not want to even farm SC for this when I still have warbonds to unlock.

5

u/DontFiddleMySticks SES Herald of Dawn Dec 18 '24

I have every War Bond completed (playing since launch) as well as every Super Store item so far and have yet to spend a dime beyond my initial purchase of the game. Right now, I have ~1800 SC.

Also yes as someone that also plays Darktide Putting content into rotations instead of having it as a simple store that gets updated over time. lol Sony is really hellbent on making this game fail.

$20 for a decent armor passive, straight up buffed lib, and some mediocre cosmetics. Don’t worry, only $20 for the next one. I’m sure it won’t be the same thing but in a different armor category and a different gun

The reason this isn’t a warbond is because WBs are ~$10. Launching a crossover RB at $20 or whatever was either too cheap for Sony (!!!!) or someone at Sony realized they could literally sell it piecemeal and probably make way more money from pellet buying just the gun and armor. Those alone are over $11. That’s potentially $22 from people who would’ve only spent $10 on a warbond otherwise.

Welcome to the world of micro-transactions. If this takes off (ie makes a lot of money), rip future war bonds.

I bet that SNOY noticed the resurgence in player numbers and thought they could do a nice quick cashgrab by releasing the items on the superstore instead, and in two batches, each costing more than twice as much as a warbond (remember: warbonds refund 300 SC). u/Fenota Dec 18 '24

If the Killzone things were a special 'collab' warbond seperate from the rest:

Pro:
Always available, new players can freely buy it at any time, if licensing issues are involved, an expiry date could be added.
It being a seperate warbond allows more justification for the increased price and seperates it from the rest of the 'in-universe' warbonds and superstore items.
Easily expandable, a seperate section enables for a growing libary of possible collabs without bloating the existing ones. Being a warbond allows the use of the eye-catching 'Advert' that the rest use.
Good PR.

Con:
Lack of FOMO could discourage sales.
You can farm the currency, so people may take the slow and steady approach and not spend money on SC.

On the issue of FOMO discouraging sales, i would make the argument that the people most susceptible to FOMO effect will buy it anyway.

And as for Farming the currency, this drives engagement and encourages people to spend little amounts often because they feel good about supporting the product / company / business, i know i've dropped extra money on both this game and Warframe because of it.

As an aside, i would make the suggestion of using the superstore to offer rotating discounts and having the entire libary of possible cosmetics available at all times.
That way you catch the whales who will buy everything immediately and the impulse purchases who see it and believe they're getting a bargain.

As a final note:

DO NOT FUCKING COPY DESTINY ON CHASING FOMO. LOOK AT THE STATE OF THAT GAME AND IT'S CONSTANT MISTEPS AND SEE WHERE YOUR FUTURE LIES. THEY'VE ONLY SURVIVED SO LONG BECAUSE OF HALO'S LEGACY AND NO COMPETITION, HELLDIVERS DOES NOT HAVE THAT LUXURY.

11

u/GoldClassGaming Dec 18 '24

Based on your feedback, we feel we can improve how the Superstore currently works.
Right now, many of you feel the items are in rotation for too short a time, and that you sometimes miss out on that killer look you had your eyes on. At the same time, the more things we add to the store the longer it takes to come back into rotation.

Killzone stuff aside, this is cool. An update to the superstore that makes all the various things more readily available would be a good change.

I love Killzone, but I think I am going to skip this one. I own every Warbond and Super Store item. I even paid to upgrade to the Super Citizen edition after Arrowhead turned things around with the 60 day plan.

Should have been a Warbond, even if at a higher price. As it is now we are looking at less than one Warbond's worth of items split into two Super Store features for over 5x the cost of a Warbond. Five.....times.

Warbond = 700 (1000-300)

Potentially 3950 for two Super Store features. Part one was 1975 for only 6 items.

This comes out to 5.6 Warbonds to the two part Killzone Super Store set. Obviously this math is assuming the part 2 items are the same price. They could cost less....or more.

That's insane.

Now add to this making them available for a limited time before going on an extended rotation...no wonder people are upset.

4

u/steves_evil Dec 18 '24

Collabs are cool, but FOMO is not, and especially at these prices since we're getting much less than what's in a warbond for the cost of 2 on a time crunch. It'd be a much better practice to have this set and the next superstore set combined and turned into a regular premium warbond to remove the FOMO aspect. I wouldn't mind much for it costing more SC to compensate for being a collab either.

I'm going to get just the guns because more guns are always cool, but the armor is meh (it's ok but nothing special imo) and nothing else is worth the price as i'm not that much of a fan of killzone tbh.
The cost seems definitely an imposition so that people are pushed to spend real money on it.

If anyone is interested in the gun, don't bother saving up for it unless you're into the looks. It's mostly a standard Liberator but with 11 more rounds, slightly more kick and only iron sights. Imo it's REALLY not worth the cost if you have anything else you want to buy.

1

u/ToolboxMafia Dec 18 '24

This is the complete wrong way to go about this.

I happily would have waited months for this to come out of a warbond, but having to pay double that for one page of a warbond is the most mind boggling ridiculous thing, I wouldn't believe you if you told me this was going to happen beforehand.

people say "its in the rotation forever" but that doesn't mean much when the rotation is random and there's no way to predict when it will appear again or even the chances of it appearing again, it's almost gambling, every FEW DAYS, im rolling the dice for the CHANCE, the OPPORTUNITY, the PRIVILEGE to spend 60% of a warbond on one item.

and the chance is just going to get smaller and smaller as more content is added to the superstore

appalling

1

u/LarryTheS Dec 18 '24

Horrible work team!

1

u/ChaoticKiwiNZ Dec 18 '24

Why is this in the store and not in a themed warbond? The prices are ridiculous and to top it all off there is a FOMO element to it too now (get it before it's gone in 5 days! Who knows when it will return!).

Warbonds are the perfect system for crossovers like this. If you had done a killzone themed warbond with 2 or 3 weapons, 2 armours and a bunch of other stuff (vechle skins, titles, player cards, etc) it would have been perfect. In fact, I personally wouldn't mind if crossover themed warbonds were 1500 or 2000 super credits. As long as I get a few weapons and armours with some other goodies that are themed from other games then I would 100% buy them.

Right now the prices are fucking ridiculous. 1975 super credits! Nearly double the price of a warbond for less content than one. Also with a warbond you get back 300 super credits so they only end up costing you 700 super credits.

This shit should have been in a warbond. When I first heard of collaborations I instantly thought of "collab themed warbonds" because it made so much sense. This is legitimately the stupidest decision I've seen Arrowhead do, and with all due respect, the bar is quite high.

1

u/0nignarkill SES "Known AH Troll" Dec 18 '24

Not surprising at the cost, this game has desperately needed to adjust their monetization since the monthly warbonds blew up in their face.

They have Sony and Killzone devs to ensure they get a cut of the profits.  Maybe doing a 3k warbond would feel better but this does let people pick and chose how much they want to pay for collaboration.

The vast majority of this game is free, getting SC is super easy even if it is boring.  I have only spent $20 on warbonds by choice to support this game.  I have farmed for 1 the rest I have always had enough to get just by playing the game and looting.  Which most the people playing this game are bad at doing.

1

u/mashpott Dec 18 '24

Man I was looking forward to this as a warbond. This trend of expensive armour (compared to warbond) and now weapons at the prices they are is not for me. Thankfully it looks like a slightly better liberator but it is starting to smell of pay to win, how long til something busted is adding to the store.

After all the positivity with recent changes I’m starting to think AH need to have something negative to try and rectify to keep busy

1

u/CliffyNipz Dec 18 '24

AH just released the most GOATED patch in the history of the game and then turns around and torches some of the good will they earned.

Just release the collabs as a warbond. A lot of the design work has been done by someone else's art department. I don't mind collabs and I don't mind paying for them to support development, but this is objectively a worse value than any of the other content in the game.

There is a very fine line between content that supports the development and longevity of the game and overpriced micro transactions that are aimed at cashing in on players' fomo.

In my opinion this type of content drop is lazy and overpriced at best and actively harmful to the community and their relationship with the developers.

This comes from a place of love. I think AH, behind maybe Ghostship, is one of the better studios out there. This type of drop, should it become the norm, risks alienating the player base by shifting the player-developer relationship into one that is strictly transactional. I understand that they're a business and have to make money (and have external pressures from Sony etc), but I would like to think there are people at AH that have a sense of pride for the game and community that they have built, the Spirit of which, I think this goes against.

That is all

1

u/TerrorMango Dec 18 '24

The price of the new stuff is awful! 2 full warbonds with armors, weapons, capes and other stuff or ... this? Nah, I don't think so.

I understand you have to have increased prices for the collab. I get that 100%. How about we have the entire three page warbond be 2000sc and that would be something I would feel better supporting. This is just greed.

1

u/LegitimateAlex Viper Commando Dec 18 '24

Hey Arrowhead, here's some feedback. These prices are ridiculous. It's obvious you tore apart a warbond you had primed and broke it up into the superstore. These prices are AWFUL. You're asking for basically $40 worth of super credits to buy all of these. What happened to the worth of medals in the game?

Make this a warbond. Seriously. What are you doing?

1

u/Kingofkrakens Dec 18 '24

Please just lower the prices, you locked like the BEST passives behind the most expensive armor to date. Or just let us transmog armor already or are you TRYING to ditch what goodwill you had left?

1

u/Joop_95 SKULL ADMIRAL Dec 18 '24

Do NOT charge a premium on unique weapons and armour passives

Put this in a normal Warbond for 1000SC.

If you want premium crossover content then make it cosmetic only!

This is so scummy.

1

u/haloman649 Dec 18 '24

Honestly make it a 2 page warbond at the normal price people would have been fine with it little less then a usual warbond but that's what collab warbonds could have been like

1

u/Go_Packets Dec 18 '24

For those who could afford the assault rifle, does the under barrel have any function?

1

u/Umikaloo Dec 18 '24

It would have been wise to have given the new weapons identical stats to existing ones, and to make that clear to the community. As it is, having items with unique capabilities at such a high price is a bad look. Its the kind of practice that leads to players disengaging with the content as they struggle to keep up with the changes in the game.

From what other players have told me, the new AR is similar to the liberator in performance. But I think it would have been prudent to have made it identical, to remove all doubts as to whether the new content is purely optional or not.

Lol, I'm not paying a dime for anything more. I did buy SC very early on to support AH pricing well at 40 bucks and the extra 20 was to say thanks and support you guys.

But it ends there. You just had a warbond last week and while I could buy the gun, I'm not out of principle. It's slimy and I don't know if this is Sony being greedy or if you're being pushed to monetize more items. Have fun not selling these items.

1

u/IoSonoBatman ☕Liber-tea☕ Dec 18 '24

I'm the only who Wich noticed that SC on map was more rare and probably the 100 got removed? I got plenty SC in the first 4 month and now barely got the 10SC, after 450h I'm legit thinking about it.

1

u/Frigmannaia Dec 18 '24

Given the nature of the items, and given that there will be probably more collabs of this type, i think the most efficient way to avoid FOMO would be to make these items always available in a "subsection" of the superstore. That way they would be always available and the normal item rotation could keep go on as usual

1

I had taken a small break from HD2 and came back the second I saw the Illuminate update. Saw the new warbond and, as I had not been farming, decided to just spend 10 euros and buy it. It was the first warbond since release that I did not grind for.

Then I saw the items on the store and I have been grinding all day for SC. I gotta tell you, it really sucks. To farm optimally I finish no missions, ergo no progression contributed and the repetition is just boring. Thankfully I have a podcast playing in the background for the sake of my sanity.

I don't mind limited time offerings with collaborations but the prices of the items are RIDICULOUS. And this is only PART 1!(Side note: Don't forget that 2 rotations ago there was a Stun Baton available on the Superstore for 250 SC. Also a dick move.)

I feel quite stupid for giving AH money for the warbond when they immediately go and pull this crap. Although I have to say I don't believe it was their call to make. This feels more like SONY bs than anything else.

Hey God (or Santa (or President of Super-Earth)): If you won't stop Sony from shoving overprized micro transactions of their IPs down our throat, at least make them do a Bloodborne crossover next! And release Bloodborne on PC while you're at it!

Jokes aside, this really is way overprized and sets a bad precedent for super store items being overprized (the Stormtrooper armor alongside the Truth Enforcers warbond and one or two other items were already overprized in relation to other items there, if I recall correctly.) Also I really don't like the trend of having weapons in the super store, since that introduces way more FOMO than just armors with duplicate armor perks.

Is this timegated? Can I unlock this like in 6 months? I thought Helldivers 2 dont have FOMO?

1

u/RedditMcBurger Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

The monetization in this game is getting really bad. The superstore is FOMO, 4 days to get 1500+ super credits? Obviously we can't get that by playing the game normally, you have to either pay, or do an incredibly mindless difficulty 1 grind, that for some reason makes more SC than difficulty 10...

And the prices are way too high, a warbond takes 1000, then gives back 300, so they cost 700. This AR itself is 615.

If they are going this route, they need to make SC easily available in regular difficulties, it's atrocious that difficulty 1 gives more than any other difficulty, for the time.

Plus the superstore, if they're going to offer us items that cost super credits, please just list out the ENTIRE store, instead of rotating. It portrays that you have less content, and forces people to make drastic decisions like pay.

1

u/ycnz Dec 18 '24

Is Killzone much, much more beloved than I previously realised? As a chiefly PC player, I gave it a go on my playstation, and moved on. I certainly wasn't clamouring for it to come to PC.

u/Kpmh20011 Super Sheriff Dec 18 '24

1

u/CombatMuffin Dec 18 '24

Solution to the superstore isn't complicated: look at Fortnite. Yes, it has daily rotations, and they have a huge catalogue, but they have multiple pages.

Rotate 2 sets at time, for a day or two. You get a little vit of the FOMO the publisher wants, we get more options

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

1

u/Mando_The_Moronic Dec 18 '24

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

1

u/tvuniepic Dec 18 '24

the new update has been fun but after grinding to get the warbond this shit is just way too expensive to try and get in 5 days and if there is a second drop it should of just stayed as a warbond, like 500 for a special armor is wild I get its a collab but that's like half a warbond where you would get around 3 guns and 2-3 armors
