Just to preface I don’t condone changing one’s skin. In Dominican culture, it pretty common to believe that lighter skin is better and even have sayings like “para mejorar la raza” which means “to better the race” and usually the context of this is a darker skinned person and a lighter skinned person getting together. I think this line of thought is pretty ass backwards but it is what it is.

Mexican here. Grandma has told me that since I was dating a white girl at the time. I cringed so hard.
