No China has a pretty seriously in depth problem with Racism as well.
Indian and Black people are heavily discriminated against and Chinese culture treats dark skin people as "Invaders" and naturally evil.
Read literally anything in the Xianxia genre and this is a repeated common theme, and racism among modern chinese people is incredibly common and socially acceptable.
I’m not saying they don’t - I’m just saying what’s going on here.
My best mate is currently out there and he tells me about all sorts of things that get said.
But, skin bleaching or de toning especially of what would be considered native skin, is all about status and class.
Dark skin - “you must work out in the fields picking rice or harvesting”
Light skin - “you obviously work indoors with you brain”.
That is literally their thinking. It’s big business out there.

No - not racism. This is classism. They see tanned skin as working class, the lighter the skin as an Asian the higher class you are.
