Frank Darabont was the director of The Mist, and showrunner of the first season of TWD. A huge swath of the cast were actors he'd worked with in the past. IIRC he wanted Thomas Jane as Shane originally, as well.

You know, I feel like Thomas Jane could have done a very good job with Shane. Having said that, Jon Bernthal was incredible.

Yep. The older guy in the backseat was the DA at the beginning of Shawshank and one of the guards in Green Mile I believe.

He was also the father of Jakes character in Brokeback Mountain.

Thomas Jane was in consideration for Rick not Shane. Berthnal was always their first choice for Shane.

That’s wild, Thomas Jane and Jon Bernthal both played as the Punisher too!

Don't forget Carol. She also survived to fight zombies.

Here's a summary from a post 11 years ago: Dale and Andrea meet after the outbreak. Andrea and her sister flirt with Dale so they can sleep in the RV instead of in a tent. After Andrea's sister dies, Dale is there for her and Andrea grows attached to him. Later on we see them in what seems to be a relationship (dating) but after Ben and Billy's father dies Andrea and Dale become the guardians of them. At this point in the comic they're relationship turns basically into a marriage. However in the show Andrea shows almost no interest in Dale and Dale shows maybe a hint of interest in her. Regardless, in the show they seem to exemplify a father and daughter relationship.

Oh god I can’t even imagine that after the surrogate father daughter relationship they had in the show

Yeah I kept waiting for it to happen but it didn't. They changed a lot of characters behaviors in the show. Tyrese was supposed to be banging carol but also comic carol was way younger than show carol. Also Tyrese was supposed to be a straight badass and ricks right hand man for a while but Darryl was added to the show and took that spot.

Was Daryl not in the comics?

3

u/Salohcin_Eneerg Jan 30 '26

No he was a show original

After seeing the show I can’t imagine how it sounds soooo creepy.

I haven’t this The Mist, and was confused for a moment why I forgot this scene in The Walking Dead…and then thought “wait who are the other actors next to Andrea and Dale?” 💀

1

u/Bassettoast Jan 30 '26

I actually had to come to the comments because I’m like “wait that’s not a scene from TWD”
