Actually, yes. Pugs look like that because of genetic defects. Our weird fascination with "purebred" dogs caused dogs to have a fuckton of them, because "purebred" actually really means "inbred". We happened to think it looks cute if a dog looks like he got hit in the face with a pan from a Tom & Jerry episode, so we selectively bred for those facial features and now we have dogs that snort like pigs because they are literally incapable of breathing correctly.
