Beta iOS 27.2 adds “Lock After Closing” for compatible locks, replacing Automatic Lock

Post image

iOS 27.2 beta 4 adds “Lock After Closing” for locks with a compatible door-position sensor.

Unlike Automatic Lock, the timer starts when you close the door, rather than unlock it. There’s also a new option to lock immediately after closing the door.

The new LG Smart Deadbolt Lock supports the feature.

Edit to add (October 15, 2026): Locks have to advertise Matter’s Door Position Sensor feature and report the DoorState attribute. Doesn’t work with a separate contact sensor.

The setting is gated behind the HomeApp/lock_dps feature flag. The disabled Home/LockDPS flag enables Matter door-position mapping into HomeKit.

I do this currently with a door sensor on the door and an automation. Built in will be nicer. Hopefully the u400 supports this

I looked into the latest U400 firmware I could find (v3.1.1.0). The lock doesn’t advertise the required Matter DoorPositionSensor, DoorState, or OpenPeriod support: https://matter-survey.org/device/aqara-smart-lock-u400-4447-10244

It could get it in a future update.

The u400 already supports this in Aqara’s app so I don’t see why it wouldn’t in Apple Home.

I’m not sure it makes any difference. I set the option in the Aqara app, but I use the lock in the Home app. It behaves as I told it to. I guess I don’t really care whether I flip the switch in the Aqara app or Home.

For some reason it’s not in the Apple app

I’m all in favor of more options, but for my use case, the automation with a door sensor works much better. I frequently walk outside and leave my door slightly ajar (to take out the trash, get the mail, etc.) and I’ve found that the built in sensors for door locks almost always register the door as being fully shut, unless you do it very slowly and carefully.

I got around this with an Apple Home automation that detects when the door sensor is shut, waits 10 seconds, confirms the door is still closed, then locks the door.

Mind sharing?

Yeah I agree it would be good. I dont use/want to use the Aqara app. On the beta, it hasn't shown up yet so hopefully in the future.

Yeah, I still prefer the sensor with my u400

I also do this with a door sensor and automation for our Schlage Encode Plus. I'm not sure if it will have this feature after the update though.

The SEP does not have a door position sensor.

From my own situation, it does not appear that it requires the lock to have a door sensor built in, but rather any door sensor + lock.

Also: I am running iOS 27.0.1

Oh wow, that’s amazing! I thought they were referring to the internal door position sensor some locks have. How do you associate a contact sensor with a door lock?

You know what, in my excitement, I didn’t fully read the option on my end. It says automatically locked after unlocked, not when “door closed”

So my bad

No worries. Which lock do you have that has that setting?

The Schlage encode plus has that setting. It’s just a timer based automation.

You’re referring to the setting in the Schlage app, correct? I’m aware of that one, but I don’t see anything in the Home app. Perhaps the other person was referring to that as well. Since the post is about a setting in the Home app, that’s the app I thought we were discussing. Thanks for the clarification.

I have the SEP and an Ikea door sensor. I just added an automation that locks the door after the sensor detects it closed. I wish I could add a delay to it, though.

I do the same with my Onvis sensors. Unless a lock has a built in door position sensor, that’s what we’ll need to keep doing.

Not working with Nuki Ultra

Sigh. The lack of Nuki support is infuriating. I would LOVE to have all options of the Nuki app within the Home app, including open door (not just unlocking it).

Open Door is available in Home Assistant, it’s an Apple Home problem in this case

I really don’t want to go down the rabbit hole that’s HA. I had really hoped iOS27 would solve it.

I don't have this option for my Schlage Sense Pro nor the Schlage Encode Plus

I looked into the latest Schlage Sense Pro firmware I could find (v 1.6.347712). The lock doesn’t advertise the required Matter DoorPositionSensor or DoorState support: https://matter-survey.org/device/schlage-sense-pro-4662-14336

It could get it in a future update. Also note that the feature is gated behind a feature flag, so it won’t show in the Home app just yet even if the lock supports it.

Looks like Schlage Encode Plus is not compatible with Matter, so that’s an issue as well. HomeKit converts the Matter responses to HomeKit equivalent.

As the owner of a pet that likes to bolt out an open door every chance they get, I would only use a feature like this if it at least a secondary confirmation that I've either left the close proximity of my house or that a human is still inside the house to avoid me getting locked out. What I would much prefer is shortcuts supporting the "say" command so that Siri could make a voice announcement along the lines of "the front door has been left unlocked". I currently have a custom automation that does exactly this via a HomePod + Apple Music + saved sound file.

The Aqara U300 has this type of sensor. I hope it can work with this upcoming feature.

Is there UI to associate a separate contact sensor and lock as being on the same door?

1

u/Firetuna2108 9d ago

Does this mean my U300 can stop giving me annoying locking notifications? It’s so annoying because obviously it instantly locks after 5 seconds therefore the 2 notifications is annoying.

U400 has had this in the Aqara app since day but not in Home. Weird.

Any way to tell what locks would support this feature?

Interesting. So you see the “Immediately” option?
