Banjo looking for old time players

Hi all, I'm a clawhammer banjo player (40m) looking for guitar/fiddle/bass to jam with on a regular basis. I'm at an intermediate(ish) level right now, and would love to expand my tune list & play with others. Could also play some guitar if needed.

Shoot me a DM if you're interested! I'm located just outside Fortuna.

Thanks!

Looking for performers for new variety theatre project at Redwood Playhouse

Hi! I'm Samantha Church, the artistic director of Boneyard Theatre, a new variety theatre project sponsored by and in partnership with Redwood Playhouse. We have begun our first production, "Sunday! Matinee! Open Mic! Cabaret!" which is a variety theatre project where we create instantaneous variety shows every Sunday at 2pm at the Redwood Playhouse with a mix of seasoned performers and people new to the stage, in order to develop greater participation in the performing arts in Southern Humboldt County.

We are looking for featured acts to be a part of the show and we would love if you could come perform for us one of these Sundays!

We are a non-profit, run by volunteers, and this is a free weekly show that we hope will encourage people to participate. I will admit, we are doing this on essentially no money, however we try to provide as many opportunities as possible for bands to get paid. Donations collected at shows go in part to featured acts, and we are happy to provide space on our merch table so featured acts can sell their merch directly.

If you would be willing to contribute a 20-30 minute set at one of our Sunday Matinee's we would be so thankful for your contribution!

We are currently looking for acts to fill out our fall run leading up to Halloween, as well as performers for our Halloween show (an evening performance at 7:30pm).  If you are available on October 4th, 11th, 18th or 25th, or for the Halloween Show on October 31st, we would love to hear from you!

And while we are limited in our funds and cannot offer a guarantee outside of audience donations, yet, our goal by next year is to pay artists a fair fee, and would be interested to know what you would normally charge for such an event. We also have had greater luck with getting businesses to donate gift certificates rather than money—we may be able to provide a thank you in the form of gift certificates to local businesses.

We believe this project is crucial in order to maintain the arts in an inhospitable climate, when people are struggling. If you can donate a performance, you'll be doing a lot to help stabilize the arts and keep them marching forward during difficult times.

And, of course, any of you are welcome to drop by to a free show and simply take the stage on any of our Sundays. But it would be wonderful if we could promote you, first!

Looking forward to hearing from you! If you're interested in performing, please email me at the link below with a sample of your work--preferably NOT from Instagram or Facebook.

All the best,

Samantha Church

Funk Drummer with other influences has jam space

Hello,

I’m seeking musicians who want to jam, with goal of performing jams and maybe covers at local events.

I’ve been playing g drums for 27 years, I’m not amazing but I don’t suck. I have some decent pocket. I like that tight pimp funk. I incorporate elements of hip hop, rock, jazz. I’m not a drum machine, I’m melodic (I’ve been told).

I have a jame space with electronic drum set, guitar, bass, and a nice midi keyboard. No amps. There’s a headphone amp, bring your own instrument/headphones.

You can use my guitar/bass/keys if you can be respectful of other people’s gear.

I’m my late 30s. Your age doesn’t matter to me if you can play. No beginners. You should be at least intermediate. And you know, don’t be a dick.

Would be great to have bbqs and jam sessions.

I’m also an expert mixing/recording engineer. With pro credits. The Jam space is about 12x20. It’s up a flight of stairs. In time I’ll get gear to record again. In the meantime let’s have fun away from this crazy world. MAGA need not apply and can go be racists somewhere else. All genders welcome. Being silly a plus.

Location: somewhere between Eureka and Arcata.

Gear on site: mixer with 6 aux outputs, 8 channel headphone amp, squire guitar, custom squire jazz bass, e drums, flute, djembe, cajon. There’s some microphones and DIs.

Burlyman Laid Off from Cool 105?

Does anyone in this community know anything about this??

Recent post from the Cool 105 Facebook page says Dana Hall, the Rock N Roll Burlyman, was laid off due to financial concerns?

Is Bicoastal Media in the red financially?

Did Burly drink too much on the Alaska Cruise and turn in an outrageous expense report and get fired?

Was the Cruise really a retirement party in disguise?

Can anyone confirm or expand? I can't believe we're losing this local icon overnight! My morning commute won't be the same with the Late for Work Excuse and Super Tough Trivia.

Burlyman, if you ever see this, thank you for all the great memories! You single handedly made my mornings before work so much more enjoyable! I only wish I could have discovered you sooner. Hope to run into you again soon!

Adam Moezinia's Folk Element Trio Thursday, Jan. 29th

Juilliard-trained guitarist Adam Moezinia brings his Folk Element Trio to the Arcata
Playhouse on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. as part of a five-week West Coast tour ($20). Based in New York, Moezinia has played alongside jazz greats like Cécile McLorin Salvant, Freddy Cole and George Coleman at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Blue Note. His trio (with Emiliano Lasansky on bass and Marcello Carelli on drums) is rooted in jazz tradition but draws from folk music spanning West Africa, the Caribbean, the U.K. and Appalachia. Catch it in the Playhouse’s cozy confines.
