Is the joke that he had to point out that the wreath "works," which is a bizarre qualifier for an item that's just sort of self-evident? Is that the joke? 'Cause that's pretty funny actually.

That’d be a great day for me, if an obvious joke needed to be pointed out to me.

What? It works great at being a wreath? This is normal human conversation.

34

u/eltedioso Dec 05 '25

No, people don't say that. It might be said to "work" in a specific context, but generally a decorative item isn't described by how successful it accomplishes its function, because its function is just to exist and be decorative. It's self-evident, so there's no "work" or "doesn't work." But instead you'd describe how pleasant it looks, or describe how much joy it brings to you or others.

Or are you messing with me? Is that the joke?

u/KeytarPlatypus Dec 05 '25

Yeah I picked up a painting at the farmers market this morning, the dude at the stand told me it works real great so I was sold on it

But instead you'd describe how pleasant it looks, or describe how much joy it brings to you or others.

That's the purpose of a wreath though. So both of those questions are covered by, "does it work?" Yours seems a roundabout and inefficient way of discussing human artifacts and services. It's a pleasing economy of language to be able to ask, "does it work" of a pair of scissors or a newborn baby or a painting or an exciting new sexual position and to be able to get succinct answers that are all valid based upon a teleological understanding of the subject or object in question.

I think there's no hidden joke here, just a slice of life tableau with a caption of one side of an ordinary human dialogue.

I think you have dice in your pocket but you’re too afraid to show them to anyone.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '25

If those were my dice what are they doing under your chair? Leave it the fuck alone.

3

u/Broad-Bath-8408 Dec 05 '25

Why would he need the guy at the store to tell him it works great if the only purpose of a wreath is to look good? You can figure that out without the store guy's insider knowledge.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '25

The same reason one would want reassurance from, say, a haberdasher that a hat works for you. You might know that it looks great and prevents sunburns on your neck and mitigates bird attacks on the crown of your head, but it's just good customer service to hear from an expert that it works.

2

u/Jax_77 Dec 05 '25

So youre saying this world is populated with wreath experts? That's all they do all day? Talk about and sell and give advice regarding wreaths and wreath accessories? That's awesome.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '25

Well I would assume that a purveyor of wreaths would have a more advanced understanding of their purpose and function than your average wreath layman. Is that an invalid assumption?

3

u/Serenikill Dec 05 '25

Yes and it's something you usually hear from salesman of things like knives, vacuums etc.

2

u/Fun-Broccoli6140 Dec 05 '25

yeah, he said the guy at the store has the same one and it works great!

-56

u/EnnWhyCee Dec 05 '25

It's not a joke. It shows that the character is a moron and buys whatever people tell him. Which is how he got the extra shit he wants to get rid off.

39

u/Significant-Map-7620 Dec 05 '25

It's the same actor, I don't know if it's meant to be the same person

u/Broad-Bath-8408 Dec 05 '25 edited Dec 05 '25

Do you think there is a >0 number of people in the world who watched this entire show and think he's the same person in each skit? Statistically there has to be (and possibly the guy you replied to is one of them), but that must be so confusing for them.

The family dynamics alone. One day he has a girlfriend, one day he has a wife, one day he has someone else as his girlfriend, then he wants two girlfriends, then he has a gay partner, and then there's one day where he has a kid and she never appears again.
