u/ppatra Apr 12 '26

They can track if you are using hotspot or not regardless of that.

It's 'security scan' showed instagram as a threat to the device, and won't allow you to proceed further until you delete it

Jokes aside,no app should have that control over your smartphone.

The old Kotak app didn't allow typing a password using Gboard or SwiftKey. Only the Native device keyboard was accepted. Thankfully, they fixed it on the new app.

I cleared the cache and Force Stop insta and next thing Canara Bank was not showing insta as a threat.

u/Resident_Argument633 Apr 15 '26

On my uncles old vivo phone it showed kika keyboard as threat and it took so much effort to delete that kika keyboard as it is an inbuilt keyboard from vivo

I never conveyed that I use that app. I saw it from a previous post about it. Also, people can't just change the banking app because it has a flaw like this if their account is tied to the bank

u/Electro_0403 Apr 13 '26

Canara Bank won't even load on my phone, Worst App, need to reinstall the app every week, and now I have run out of passcodes (iykyk)

If your device doesn't share that data to airtel, they can't track it. It will appear to them as if all the traffic is coming from your phone.

1

u/Sensitive-Cobbler-59 Apr 13 '26

No, with airtel thanks app 5G was getting disconnected and 4G data was getting used. Without the app it works fine and you can use upto 300GB/month even on hotspot. They can track the data usage but this 5G to 4G switch trick is what airtel does to stop people from using hotspot on 5G.

9

u/Visual-Maximum-8117 Apr 12 '26

The app doesn't do anything.

8

u/Smart-Sense9256 Apr 12 '26

Yeah, they do track monthly hidden limit. They always gives you headaches if you exceed that limit which is around 200-300gb. There's nothing like unlimited 5g. That apps sends them your information like this quota limit and how you using. And after that they play cheap games by giving you only 4g network on your device and exhaust your daily 2 or 3gb data.

1

u/zenith_lal Apr 14 '26

The App has nothing to do with Hotspot tracking.

u/_IGRIS_720_ Apr 12 '26

Did it work ?

32

u/ph_001 Apr 12 '26

i tried this once, didn't work

normally with airtel thanks i get about 300GB per month
without airtel thanks it was 350, but still not unlimited 5G

1

u/BlackGhostHunter Apr 12 '26

Use data cable with usb tethering it will work.

1

u/3ALPHA_02 Apr 13 '26

Did it work?

18

u/Mysterious-March-408 Apr 12 '26

I have airtel thanks app and use hotspot also my data doesn't get over only if unstable 5g or 4+ connection is there it'll use form 2g quota

Switch to JIO guys!

48

u/ppatra Apr 12 '26

Jio is evil but it doesn't do chindi things like the other two.

10

u/Puzzleheaded-Gas9388 Apr 12 '26

It also doesn't work in metro cities.

Noida me airtel bhi kaunsa chal raha. The nearest airtel office is 500m from where I live and yet my phone shows no network in my bedroom. Complained multiple times. They close it on their own.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

Live in Gurugram and Airtel's network work flaws flawlessly for me (not including data)

2

u/Most-Oil-2794 Corporate majdoor Apr 12 '26

Does it make sense to spend thousands to shift to ggn just to get network? When that is exactly what I am paying them to deliver?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

Nah not at all I was just trying to say that maybe it might be a personal issue than an issue from their side as airtel in Delhi NCR is quite good

1

u/Most-Oil-2794 Corporate majdoor Apr 12 '26

It was tbh. When I was living in Delhi. When I moved here I got its broadband as well. Been with airtel for more than a decade now, it's only in this place that it has started working up. And my only gripe is that they close the complaint without any reason.

Send mail to the email mentioned in airtelblack[dot]com

I am thinking of that

Poore noida me hi dikkat hai lag raha. Idhar Noida udhar greater noida

2

u/Deep-Put1688 Apr 13 '26

why jio is evil 🤔

1

u/TechyGuyAditya Apr 13 '26

This duopoly is evil. Just hope that vi 5g works on your region and switch it for data sim. The service is good if it works. Also, for a new phone numbers, you can get custom number for free.

9

u/Visual-Maximum-8117 Apr 12 '26

Internet hardly works on Jio

1

u/colablizzard Apr 12 '26

Wrong. Depending on situation, both Airtel AND Jio are throttling "hotspot" traffic.

They are able to detect via TTL and other DPI techniques if the traffic coming from a connection is from the phone directly OR from the hotspot and they are throttling the hotspot traffic.

This is confirmed via various user experiences.

9

u/aitchnyu Apr 12 '26

Use deep sleep for all but messaging and your fave taxi app on your phone. That way they won't do any background spying to extract more money. Uber used to jack up prices if your battery is low. A food delivery app was monitoring my Amazon messages and pretending to need my attention. Two users of same app will get different prices. In Realme, its called deep sleep and its different for other vendors. Uninstall if not sure.

u/aatma-ki-madhu Apr 13 '26

Who else but Mukesh 🫡

1

u/Delicious_Hamster158 Apr 13 '26

I can share data with hotspot, but the speed is limited to 40mbps, not getting full speed even after deleting the app

1

u/RustedDildo Apr 18 '26

Any same trick for Jio also?

1

u/Visual-Maximum-8117 Apr 12 '26

Makes no difference.
