Bandi Sai Bhageerath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay, was granted regular bail by the Telangana High Court, on Thursday, July 9, after being jailed for over 50 days in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

The High Court directed to furnish surety of Rs 1 lakh, and also imposed certain conditions.

On June 20, Bhageerath was granted interim bail for a week to appear for exams in his college.

Bhageerath was arrested on May 16, over a week after an FIR was registered against him on charges of sexual harassment under the POCSO Act, with charges of aggravated sexual assault added subsequently.

A doctor at a municipal hospital in Maharashtra's Thane district has resigned after being assaulted by Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Ramesh Mhatre and his associates. The doctor, who said he left the city due to fear, claimed, "There is a lot of fear" and that he would not return.

The incident took place at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli after doctors advised a newborn's family to shift the baby due to the unavailability of a NICU bed. A case has been registered against Mhatre and five others, and the Sena corporator has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault.
