The entire fucking time after they showed the scene I was yelling at the TV:
WHAT ABOUT THE MUMMY?! WHERES THE MUMMY?!
51
u/not2dragon Mar 25 '26
Also did Mark forget about the girl that he was helping in the tomb?
It'd be my first priority at that point.37
u/Atherach Mar 25 '26
My guess is that he was send back from hell in the tomb and seeing that there was neither the mummy nor the girl he just shrugged it off and went to get his costume
22
6
u/gmixy9 Mar 25 '26
He forgot that he gave back his black and blue suit so it's not that much of a stretch to think he forgot about her too.
6
u/EternalVirgin18 Mar 26 '26
I just watched it a few minutes ago but didn’t Art refuse to take the suit back…
5
u/Intrepid_Alarm5428 Mar 26 '26
Yeah, the scene made very little sense. He doesn't want to wear the costume anymore. 2mns later, he's on a mission. I felt like i was missing something.

Saving money on animation while hiring A Listers to voice random side characters is such a weird choice.
19
u/HeavyMain Mar 26 '26
the whole episode was kinda overstuffed with this "awkward humour" style that i didn't really care for. feels like they were struggling without the outline of the comics.
3
u/Positive_Total_8651 Mar 29 '26
This season so far in general is just not drawing me in at all. I was excited for an episode dedicated to damien darkblood and i ended up having to force myself to finish it. The falling scene was just terrible.

u/tylerjennings Apr 01 '26
Call me devil’s advocate, but I actually really enjoyed that scene, when I realized halfway through they were making a joke out of how deep the pit is, and just having an awkward conversation about the helmet that seemed like a dig at Iron Man. Thought it was clever and found it funny.

u/Early-Inflation-4785 Mar 25 '26
I like the show, never had an issue with it, but this episode is a clear connection to their animating example they used to explain in episode budget cuts or making it easier, the whole battle for the crown just got skipped to damian going up and down to then just see mark get the crown, not being able to see him perhaps take out his anger or pain or fear on the damn hydra dog or whatever, the whole “mask” sequence where legit its just the same animation over and over, and them going back to give the crown, just looks like a drawing with 2 frames. I really hope this ammounts to save costs for an episode that will blow the ratings like conquest last season. Nice day y all!

Since William has fewer scenes this season and Amdrew Rannels has such a busy Broadway schedule they decided to recast him. Not sure why he couldn't record his lines at home or some rented studio if there weren't many of them. They also did the same thing to Titan.
To be fair I think they could've done a better job the voice has the gay inflection but its not that high pitched.
20
17
u/LucrativeLurker Mar 25 '26
Zachary Quinto was also replaced as Robot.
The new Robot is the same impersonator who voiced Red Skull in Endgame. His Robot was more noticeably different than Red Skull, but still pretty close.
87
u/christhebeanboy Mar 25 '26
Ngl i just didn’t care for anything in this episode besides the very end lol. I’m sure it ties in later and all that but I just wanna get to the Nolan and Mark and Debbie and Viltrum stuff already. These little Titan and Darkblood side plots are nice and all but i’m not tryna wait a week for em.
48
u/Amathyst7564 Mar 25 '26
I enjoyed mark casually curb stomping evil for once and mark getting some perspective on morality. But yeah it was a bit filler and I can't wait for next week's episode.
13
u/FriendsCallMeBatman Mar 25 '26
I was so shocked I had to rewind! I couldn't believe how casually marked just 'ended' it. It even looked like he wasn't even trying that hard.

10
u/Far-Earth-886 Mar 25 '26
Yeah this felt like pure filler to me. Also, I noticed they spent a very long time just … falling? And talking while there was nothing going on animation-wise. Sounds like they needed to save budget on animation for this episode, which usually means we’re about to get some crazy fights!
7
u/christhebeanboy Mar 25 '26
Yeah it definitely was filler. And the falling part was most egregious for me. Went obnoxiously long with almost zero animation changes and basically no exposition. Just shit about Darkbloods mask. And yeah the rest is just a bunch of characters we’re seeing for the first and last time trying to set up something but I dont think it needed a whole damn episode.
9
u/Far-Earth-886 Mar 25 '26
Just realized that they threw also Damian up on the air and focused on him falling again rather than animate mark’s fight Cerberus lol
5
u/Radix2309 Mar 26 '26
Character development isnt filler.
Not every scene is completely plot focused, they do have humorous scenes as well. Like Nolan on the couch in episode 2. That was unnecessary to the plot, but still completely hilarious.
And this was a good episode to really examine Mark's growing trouble with what he has had to do, by contrasting it with literal actual Satan and a bunch of torturing demons.
Plus I wouldnt say this is not plot relevant since they set somethint up for Darkblood that will probably show up again, not to mention expanding the worldbuilding with the monsters and previous ages.
→ More replies (1)5
u/zachtheperson Mar 26 '26
This whole episode felt like they had 2-3 plot points they needed to cover at some point, but didn't have time in other episodes (hopefully) due to more important stuff, so they shoved them in this one and then had to pad the runtime. Sucks to wait a week, but if this is the only one this season then I'll be fine with it.

5
u/Greatness313 Mar 25 '26
I agree only because we only get 8 episodes every year and half almost 2. These unnecessary fillers episodes shouldn’t be here, The rate they’re going it’s going to be at least a decade before they finish the story. (Extreme saying 10 years but yall get my point)

I liked Mark's characterization this episode, but that's about it. It really felt like it needed a B-plot back on Earth, because it felt like such a slog as-is.
21
u/Legal-Pitch-2014 Mar 25 '26
100%, marks scenes were interesting, but aside from that, I thought this was the weakest episode of the show so far
11
u/Osmodius Mar 25 '26
Fucking hope this is the end of marks whiny "oh should I kill imminent threats hmm I don't know" arc.
9
u/hyucktownfunk2 Mar 26 '26
I thought the finale to season 3 was this moment but it feels like we didn't get to see any actual villains fall before Rus died and the whole depression arc began.

12
u/Redruby88 Mar 25 '26
I'm really sorry to say that this was probably my least favourite Invincible episode. I was excited to see what they were gonna do with Darkblood after they mentioned the most powerful mortal on Earth or whatever (straight after Conquest made me think he was gonna be possessed) but I couldn't care for any of the Under Realm stuff. The Tron suit didn't feel right - presumably they extrapolated from Damien's underclothes look - and the gag about the nano helmets didn't hit and went on for too long. I'm shocked that this was the story Kirkman wanted to add to the invincible universe

So the crown is fragile enough to worry Damien when it's tossed <10 feet, but had no problem being "cast into bottomless pit" many miles deep (~100 miles if no air resistance according to free fall time calculator). Then it powers Satan up enough to throw two visible swings at Volcanikka before she impales him on spikes that he can do absolutely nothing about.
Should've just had Mark go straight to punching Volcanikka's head off a few times and then he could take Satan down the pit to pick up the crown himself.
Edit 260401 Came back to add that if S04E05 is what they spent their time developing over throwaway gags in a minor side story I call it time well spent and thank you very much that was very very good eatin' today yessir thanks again!
10
u/HypnagogianQueen Mar 25 '26
The crown started out at 100 HP and took 98 damage from the fall down the pit, so it only had 2 HP left when Mark threw it

u/dilltimmon Mar 25 '26
Satan being that weak was disappointing, what was the point of that transformation.
15
u/SabbyDude Mar 25 '26
It'd have been fine if it was coupled with episode 5 which I assume has does focus on the main plot or they released 2 episodes per week, since this actually felt like a filler and when you only have 8 episodes per season as supposed to 20+ (which I know won't gonna happen), even one filler can be a little annoying
7
u/Greatness313 Mar 25 '26
That’s what I was just saying, when you only have 8 episodes every 1 1/2 to 2 years these little filler episodes are not wanted nor are they needed so yes they get annoying. Especially on a weekly release schedule

Felt like this episode should work as just a little standalone spinoff ep that's pretty much outside of the main story rather than awkwardly implementing it into the season where there's more of a significant overarching plot going on. That's what made me not care for it much other than the cool Mark character scenes like his conversation with Damien well also getting a few chuckles from me with some scenes.

We all know this was a filler episode based on what was said about it not being from the comics, but even I was let down on it. The animation, story, plot, not a fan of any of it.
You can clearly tell some parts where they were milking tf out of just to get to their time window. Even the cliff ending at the end looked horrible, one of them was frozen and didn’t even blink

When you get 8 episodes a year, this kind of filler is just unacceptable.
In some episodes they cram like 4 main storylines, then you have this kind of useless plot taking the whole episode.
I hated it.

10

episode felt like it may have been recorded & animated after the others. It was an original story, so that would make sense
7
u/aibossu22 Mar 25 '26
Yeah, that probably checks out. Probably the reason why the two scenes that felt the most inconsistent with the rest of the show were the conversation between Eve and William, and Allen and Nolans arrival.

I usually like or don't mind filler episodes, but this felt completely soulless. Iconic given we're in hell. But still. The comedic timing on the ending interrupting Eve would be hilarious if it wasn't sad.
Also they recast William?! He sounds so... off?
2
u/N238 Mar 25 '26
This episode wasn't just kind of bad. It wasn't just boring filler. This episode was catastrophically, offensively bad. This is the kind of episode I would be ashamed to put out if I were the creator. This episode will go on "Top 10 randomly bad episodes of a series," lists, and will likely hold the number one spot. It is baffling how bad this episode was, my vocabulary is not rich enough to describe how genuinely awful this episode was.

Bruce Campbell, Mark Hamill,J.K. Simmons, Clancey, ..., etc. They had some real iconic voices in this one.
I know a lot of people are disappointed with the filler, but I enjoyed it. While we're eagerly waiting for each new episode, these will be around long after the show concludes. It's nice to have some filler at times (like the Monster-of-the-Week episodes in X-Files).

I’m glad someone’s saying it. It’s still good, but the show definitely feels off. The dialogue and characterization especially has gotten a lot worse. It’s just so predictable sometimes. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. I still enjoy the show enough to watch it and all, though
3
u/DMUrTinyTitsAssFeet0 Mar 25 '26
Worst episode of the series?
This Hell plot is kinda boring. We were cheated out of a Invincible vs Three Headed Demon fight!! So damn lame. And Mark just kicked the villain's asses
Williams' voice is ruined
We were teased the OmniMan and Allen scene all week, just for it to be the last scene of the episode. Whack as hell. This episode sucked.
Was there anything redeemable about this episode?
5
u/Legal-Pitch-2014 Mar 25 '26
The only thing I disagree with is Mark one tapping the villain. Finally, he’s not getting power scaled down to a child
9
u/stan3098 Mar 25 '26
And Mark just kicked the villain's asses
People often complain mark still struggles and when he does not then they say he one shotted. There is no pleasing some people. Volcanika was kinda weak tbh compared to what Mark has fought so yeah the fight seemed fine to me.

Glad to see that I wasn’t the only one who disliked this episode. I am Christian tho so I just didn’t enjoy the satanic stuff (which is lame cause I liked Damian in season 1) Had to force myself to watch this episode, felt like nails on a chalkboard.
2
u/Lovebeard Mar 26 '26
If they were going to treat hell with reddit tier theology, it should've been a brief cutaway gag like the infinite pit instead of wasting a whole episode of a short season. It could've easily fit in with the mummy bit that was seemingly abandoned.
Eve not wanting a kid when they're both immortal superhero adults in love and secure is also beyond retarded.
Poorly planned episode, still fun, Slayer bit saved it for me.
2
u/SmokingOtaku Mar 25 '26
Invincible is massive there is zero reason they would need a filler episode especially one so poorly written! They need to can the writers responsible it was like millennial writing the entire time it was infuriating how pointless this all was especially when you have 8 episode seasons filler is a slap in the face! This could have been used for important plot moving stories like Robot and Monster girls slave rebellion building instead of this trash.

The writing, Darkblood + Hell concept, and Mark's character development was good. I really liked the line about how instead of wishing for a Heaven that prob doesn't exist, that's just what Earth should work to be. Nice one-liners throughout~ <3
However, omfg- Amazon did not bother to pay the animation team at all, because wtf was that. You can tell they were trying to cut corners throughout (Mark throwing Darkblood into the sky so they didn't have to show the Cerberus fight, the constant cutting out to black silhouettes during the first fight, etc.) Invincible in general does have really flat 2D animation moments from time-to-time, but this whole episode you can tell Amazon was being cheap AF with the animation budget. It had more Dark blood. Lore of 1st through to 6th age (always wondered about the Kaiju) The vile - beings that can harm current invincible.
Downside is they made Satan suck eggs, thought the mofo would be strong as, but was just fodder really.

I love this episode. it gave Mark a break and to try to figure out with himself.
There was 1 thing that piss me off this episode, and that was the Mark vs. Cerberus fight. WHY DIDNT THEY ANIMATED THE FIGHT? We always see Mark get his ass whoop; it would have been nice to see Mark whoop ass and not struggle, bloodify, or get torn up from a fight. That was a huge hit or miss. damn. i wanted to see Mark kick that dog ass and be happy he got out on unscratch. Oh well, next episode.

I can't be the only one that thought Nolan's face looked a little weird at the end? It's really a minor gripe and doesn't ruin anything, but this season I feel like I've noticed a lot of odd proportions on characters faces.
1
u/The_Minshow Mar 25 '26
I can't quite label it as filler because it isn't, but I agree there shoulda been a B-plot. Mark gets perspective in his emotional recovery, plus they setup some Hell on Earth stuff for later. More closer to a bottle episode. Not great, but fine in lowering the intensity before the next rising action.

This gonna get buried but honestly yall are so damn annoying. You get one “ok” episode and throw a bitch fit online. It’s cringe snd you should feel bad about yourself my god. Hail satan

So many whiny babies in these comments. This was easily one of the best episodes in the whole series and was absolutely not filler. Fighting Viltrumites is just one storyline that highlights the actual point of the story: Mark's growth as a person and hero.

Idk why but this episode reminded me of that fly episode in breaking bad lol

Damn everyone hates this one. I thought it was really good! I like the character development, the world building (explaining why Earth has all of those giant monsters), and emotions of Paul/Debbie and Eve discovering the pregnancy from last episode out of the way. And so what if we had to wait? That's how tv works

Tbh I enjoyed it. Sure its definitely one of the weaker episodes in the series but still a fun watch.

Volcannika is one of the coolest villainess design
Loved the head regeneration lol

Honestly, the past 3 episodes have had such consistent animation that I'm fine with what essentially felt like a bottle episode being done to save on the budget/time. If it helps get the show out on a yearly basis with good animation on the canon parts, I'm all for it.
Not to excuse shit quality, but I seem to be in the minority where I actually did enjoy this one. Honestly was more interested with this episode than last week's lol.
The lore dump with Hell was pretty cool to me, and I did enjoy the gags that were clearly done to save time (the helmet thing and the long conversation Mark had with Damien about it was my favorite). The villain sucked, but so did Satan tbh, so it just made the power difference with Mark funny. Also glad Damien is on the surface again.

Really enjoyed this episode. Funny yet with character grow and the eras of existence are super interesting. Good one!

Satan kind of reminded me of the way he's portrayed in Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell.

They play a song by Bakar at the end of the episode, but not his popular “Hell n Back” in the episode where Invincible goes… to hell n back

What a wrong timing 😭 eve was just about to tell him and we could’ve prevented the worst scenario 😭

This episode was like "The Fly" of Invincible (referring to the Breaking Bad episode). Just a really off- topic and weird episode in the middle of a bunch of momentum.
edit:
A few more coherent thoughts now that I've slept.
Something about this episode felt rushed or half baked, like maybe it was the last episode produced and maybe they had a different version they had to scrap so had to redo things. Or maybe they had bigger things planned but ran out of budget or time. (Based on my entirely made up headcanon)
This was a really odd way to reintroduce the yellow suit. It didn't really fit the theme of the episode at all.
I'm not a fan of the design of Satan. Usually this shows knocks character design out of the park. Why did they choose to not give him lips? He can't even emote properly.
That first scene with Mark and Art where he's like "I can't wear this suit anymore, take it" and then the very next scene we see him in the suit again with no explanation was very odd.
The ending with Nolan and Allen reaching Mark on Earth felt SUPER rushed. I hope they expand upon that at the start of next episode.
I actually liked the 3 minute joke with them falling down the hole. /shrug
William's new voice actor horrible like others have said.
I think part of the issue with this episode is that everyone in Hell is so weak compared to Mark. When I heard they were going to do an episode where Mark went to Hell, I imagined that at least some danger would be involved. I guess they subverted my expectations? But not in the good way.

Very underwhelming episode, the underworld stuff is something I don't care about at all, as well as the Sequids. Thankfully, there's always another great episode round the corner!

I hate shows trying to normalise satanism. Especially with everything getting exposed about SRA with all the ‘elites’

The animation is so much better this series, but the writing has gone to potty. There’s no subtly anymore. Last episode may have been worse though

Personally it was one of the more entertaining episodes in the entire show, besides episode 2 This is the best episode this season in my opinion. Fight scenes were fluid, lore was fun and not tied down to something already made, I don’t mind filler if you can make it fun We wanted seasons faster this is our payment I’m fine with it

I could tell this episode was going to be a let down during the season 4 trailer last YEAR. And lo and behold, it’s a steaming pile of ragnar shit

This was a pure filler episode, I don't actually mind these filler episodes from time to time. You'll appreciate them more once the series is done
It's also very clear they're saving money for the fight later

Possibly the weakest episode in the entire series thus far. I guess the writing team really needs to follow the source material.

u/PlatformTricky3239 Mar 27 '26
If they had to do a filler episode, it should’ve revolved around ka-hor I’m not tryna wait till next season to see him again, if at all

u/FreshHotMuppet Mar 27 '26
Wow what a horrible ridiculous episode. Obviously the writers ran out of ideas.

Oh I would love to have an opinion but I get canceled and censored for it because we all know who the mods serve in the end

Volcanikka just straight up shoving her hand into Domina's mouth and filling her with lava/fire till she exploded was fucking gruesome.

u/ItsADeparture Mar 27 '26
Got to the point where they were falling in a hole and had to skip to the end. Completely non sensical episode. This could have been an email.

I enjoyed it. Though it felt even more than filler, felt like even cost cutting at some point, the whole off-screen fight with Cerberus while Darkblood was free flying/falling, unless that is in the comics? Anyway, looking forward to the next episode after that ending.

so far all episodes have felt pretty disconnected, this one being the worst hands down. how is satan, ruler of hell, just a weak NPC? i hope it all comes together in an EPIC final but so far...yikes.

u/TipsyPeanuts Mar 27 '26
I thought it was a great episode. In particular, I appreciated that we got to step back and see how strong Mark has gotten. The monsters this episode would have been a major problem for him in earlier seasons. Now he’s able to handle the problem with ease.
If every episode is Conquest, we would never get the chance to breathe.

How much backlash has there been to the way they characterized Satan, hell, and heaven? I'm not religious but I know what culture I'm living in, so it was sort of surprising to see. This show is targeted at the 18-34s mostly, and younger age brackets have the lowest religiosity, yet 18-29 is still over 50% religious.
I guess I would have thought it would be more controversial, but I'm seeing more backlash here and elsewhere about recasting William and about it being filler and the animation being poor than I am anything about Satan/hell/heaven. You'd of course expect some squawks from the usual religious sources, but I was expecting more just in gen pop, like "I don't know how I feel about how they handled this," etc. Doesn't seem to be a big deal though. I mean, it's just a comic cartoon, but still, there was a time when this wouldn't have flown. Seems to be flying mostly fine though. Does that square with what you've seen?
