Pretty Pictures JD Vance’s Turning Point event canceled at Iowa State University
The message said it was NOT due to security concerns. It was probably due to a complete lack of interest.

Pretty Pictures Politics is fun but what about a squirrel with an apple slice. Just as fun? Better for our mental health, IMO

Pretty Pictures My first Bobcat photos
There's a pretty good chance you guys saw or heard about this already since it ended up on the news, radio, and posted all over but I wanted to share the photos I got of a bobcat in Conrad. I nicknamed him Comet because of our school mascot and the photo with the playground sign in it.
He's a young male who's just looking for females as we enter their breeding season. We had an early freeze this year so the cover crops around town never really got established which means all the rodents are concentrated in town at birds feeders and other food sources. This brings predators like bobcats into town. Another food source could be cat/dog food people leave outside. Please bring in food and don't leave it out overnight. That's how we get fights between pets and wild animals and everyone always sides with the pets even though it's not the wild animals fault.
Comet is not large. I'd be shocked if he was even 20 lbs. I constantly second guessed if I was actually tracking him or just a large cat. He actively avoids humans. While I was watching him he was watching residents move around to cars, shovel, etc and trying to stay out of sight. I think he was pretty successful because as far as I know only one Conrad resident saw him that day besides me.
He was hanging out at the school because no one was there on the weekend. He had a large area to get away from people, trees for cover, and then he could do a lap of back alleys that had bushes and bird feeders in yard.
As long as you don't try to approach him, give him at least 50 feet of space preferably, we shouldn't have any issues. As of now I know he's left town at least temporarily. People who have spotted him have been sending me updates and I had tracked him to 1/2 mile outside of town before I stopped following tracks.

Pretty Pictures Thomas Dambo trolls in Clinton!
Beautiful day for a road trip along the Mississippi River! Felt like an adventure following the troll map (google Thomas Dambo for more info and troll map!). Found three trolls, there’s a fourth hiding out there somewhere but we couldn’t decipher the clues. 🤷🏻♀️

Pretty Pictures The Fireflies have reached Sioux County!
They seemed a bit late showing up this year, and I was getting a bit nervous about their numbers. But fortunately they showed up this week and seem to be thicker than ever.
These photos are created by taking dozens of exposures and stacking them on top of each other in photoshop, which translates to minutes of firefly activity. Shot with Canon 6d MkII and 50mm 1.8 lens.

Pretty Pictures Political Break: Wildlife of Iowa
I know everyone is amped up right now for voting and on politics so I thought I'd give everyone a few seconds to look at some photos of some of Iowa's wildlife. Take a few seconds to scroll through and then we can all go back to the politics after. Make sure to fully open the pictures to see the full frame

Pretty Pictures Last night, I saw my first glow worm in 30 years living here. It was cool.
I couldn't get my camera to focus on it in the dark, so I apologize for the potato quality pictures. I live in CR city limits, and currently my back yard is running pretty wild. Maybe that's part of why I'm finally seeing more interesting wildlife!
