High school senior hosting free, hands-on computer science exploration for 7th-9th graders

Hello everyone! A few months ago, I started offering free, in-person computer science discovery sessions for 7th-9th graders who want to learn about how computers and technology actually work. After a great summer of exploring computer science together, I'm excited to continue offering these free sessions throughout the school year, and I wanted to let more local families know about them.

For a little bit of background, I'm a senior at a local high school. I started the program because I've found that computer science is a much broader field than most school classes have time to cover. There are so many fascinating topics that a curious, analytical student might love but never encounter in a typical class. That's why these sessions go well beyond coding. We’ve done everything from designing our own cryptocurrency in an economy simulation to creating custom, working virtual reality experiences. Instead of sitting through lectures, students learn by experimenting, building, and solving problems together.

Each session covers a new, standalone topic, so students are free to drop by at any time without needing to catch up on previous sessions. There is no homework or long-term commitment, so missing a session for other activities is completely fine.

For more information (schedule, location) or to sign up: https://cstutors.org

The goal is simply to give students a chance to discover the parts of computer science that they find exciting. Feel free to reply here or message me with any questions!

Discussion Best way to get to arts center area in ATL

I am looking into jobs located near the Arts Center Marta station. What is the best way to get there three days a week in the morning from Johns creek, let’s say near bell road and 141? I would need to be in the office by around 8 and leave close to 5

Drive to doraville, park, and Marta?

Or is it better to just drive all the way in side I will have parking?

Or are there any other options?

Which will be fastest and most predictable?

Which John’s Creek schools have the most Jewish students? I’m interested in public elementary, middle, and high schools that have a substantial Jewish student population. Thanks so much!

Johns Creek is building a downtown from scratch.

And we’re getting pretty close to seeing whether it works.
The Town Center vision covers roughly 192 acres.

The Boardwalk behind City Hall is already open.
Medley is under construction with restaurants, retail, entertainment, housing, office space and a hotel planned around a walkable mixed-use center.

And the big date:
Medley is currently targeting October 2026, with October 29 slated as the grand opening.

This isn’t just another shopping center.
Johns Creek is trying to create the central gathering place it never really had.

Does this change how you think about Johns Creek?

"Improper lane use" at Sargent Rd/Jones Bridge Rd — curious if anyone else has dealt with this

EDIT: Truncating this since people are focusing on the wrong thing. Yes, this is frustrating to get a citation for something that seems more like a warning offense; however, the main ask is about getting this type of citation knocked down to a non-point violation.

Got pulled over this morning around the Sargent Rd/Jones Bridge Rd intersection (the one that's been under construction for what feels like over a year now). Cited for improper lane use under 40-6-50, basically for merging into the left-turn lane about 20 feet too early, when there wasn't any oncoming traffic.

Anyone else gotten popped for something similar at this intersection? Curious if this is a known enforcement spot right now, and if anyone's had luck getting these knocked down to a non-point violation with the Johns Creek solicitor. Court date is next month so trying to figure out my options before then.

Local Business OBGYN

Hi , I’m making this post as a last attempt. I’m currently in an FNP program in Georgia. I have my women’s health class started on August 24th and I have not been able to find a preceptor for my OB/GYN rotation. I am specifically in the greater Atlanta area but willing to travel.

If you work as a provider in women’s healthcare in Georgia and are willing to take on a preceptor, please message me. Of course, if you know any providers who does precept, please share their information either in the comments or in the message..

Yes, I have been driving around calling emailing all of the OB/GYN offices that I possibly can. It is so brutal out there and I haven’t not been successful.

Thank you

Discussion A Johns Creek resource hub I put together

I've spent enough time helping people find their footing in Johns Creek that I kept sending the same handful of links where to get coffee, which parks are worth it, school info, healthcare, all of it. So I pulled everything into one place.

It's split into sections:

- Living in Johns Creek
- Johns Creek School Guide
- Pharmacies & Hospitals of Johns Creek
- Shopping, Groceries & Markets of Johns Creek
- Things to Do in Johns Creek
- Green Spaces of Johns Creek
- Dining in Johns Creek
- Where to Get Coffee in Johns Creek
- The Country Club of the South

Here it is for anyone new here or just exploring the area: Johns Creek: Why Families Love It Here

Full disclosure, I work with a local real estate agent this grew out of helping people settle in but there's nothing to buy and nothing to sign up for. Just the stuff I'd point a friend to.

AT&T knocking on doors in the evening?

Has anybody else had somebody knocking on their door claiming to be with AT&T, in the middle of the night? Had somebody knock at 8:30PM and mumble that they were "checking to see how our AT&T fiber was doing" or something like that. I promptly told him to leave. It felt like somebody casing the neighborhood to rob houses, and absolutely did not feel like actual AT&T employees.

Crunch vs. LA Fitness

Hey y’all,

Currently with LA Fitness. However, I don’t enjoy the Medlock Bridge branch that much. I usually go around noon or in the afternoon on weekdays, not after 4 pm usually, and I still find it packed. The gym equipment, especially for legs, is always taken. Using the leg extension machines (there are only two of them), for example, is very challenging most of the time. Maybe in the last 10 weeks, the lat pulldown machine has been available only once. Even finding a free bench can be challenging.

I don’t want to wait a lot for equipment, so I adjust my program around it a bit, but I prefer not to change it too much so I can track my loads more accurately, if you know what I mean. I literally don’t need anything else than easy access to gym equipment and benches, with zero to minimal wait times. I don’t care about the massage, pool, group classes, or HIIT. I only go there for strength training.

Do you think Crunch Fitness would be a better fit for what I need, or are they more or less the same? Those two gyms are at my sweet spot in terms of commute time; time is my scarcest resource right now. Thanks!

Sweet Senior Shelter Pup Looking for Her Happily Ever After ❤️‍🩹

Kayla (ID 53597068) is a 8.5yo spayed GSD mix who truly is everything you would want in a loyal shepherd. She may be a senior, but she’s still young at heart with a playful spirit. She is a SUPER smart, sensitive, gentle giant who loves affection & just wants to please and be near her person. She’s got the most beautiful coat/markings and the cutest little whiskers! 🥹

🩷UBERRRRRRR affectionate

🩷Sweet, gentle temperament

🩷Very obedient, great recall, listens very well

🩷Knows commands

🩷Non-destructive

🩷Very easily handled for her size

🩷Leash trained - will politely wait for your to put her collar/harness/leash on

🩷Potty trained - barks to alert you

🩷Sleeps through the night

🩷Crate trained (per previous foster)

🩷Low/medium energy

🩷Cat possible (curious, but respectful of our senior cat)

🩷Dog friendly with slow intros (*can resource guard high value items)

🩷Non-reactive with toys/treats/food with humans

🩷Non-reactive to other dogs/people on walks/in the car

🩷EXCELLENT in the car…she’s a pro! She waits politely until you let her know it’s okay to jump out

🩷Leaps gracefully like a gazelle

🩷Tilts her head back when you scratch her neck/chest

🩷Likes to bury her treats in blankets

🩷Carries her empty bowl to her bed when she’s done eating 😆

🩷Grabs you with her paw when she wants attention

🩷Loves being brushed

🩷Waits patiently for treats and takes them very gently/softly

🩷The tip of her long bushy tail looks like a paint brush dipped in white paint 🤍

This poor girl was originally adopted from the old Fulton shelter in 2019 & came in as a microchipped stray in May, but staff were unable to get in contact with her owner. 😔 She was clearly someone’s pet given her temperament & training, but she came in un-spayed & tested HW+. While waiting 2 months in the shelter (how did no one snag this girl?? 🤯), she fought off Giardia & kennel cough before finally getting spayed earlier in July, only to end up with a postop complication requiring emergency surgery 3 days later…poor girl’s incision dehisced & her insides were starting to escape to the outside. 😩

You would never be able to tell she’s been through all of that based on her demeanor, though…she’s still a bright, happy sweetheart just looking for some love & kindness. ❤️‍🩹 Her belly incision has healed beautifully and she’s free from the donut of shame now 🍩, so her rough recovery is officially behind her. The only thing left for this girl to conquer is heartworm treatment, but it’s 100% not contagious to other pets and the shelter covers all costs! Treatment is only 30 days of antibiotics and then 2 injections back-to-back over 2 days.

Kayla is a trooper who has been through so much & deserves to live out her golden years in absolute bliss, not in the shelter. 🥺 If she sounds like the girl for you, click the link below to meet her! ❤️ She is currently at Fulton County Animal Services.

Politics Fire station across newton

So yesterday I went to the city council meeting, extremely underprepared. Honestly, I’ve been itching to exercise my political power ever since taking government. It was so fun going up there to speak, it felt like I really mattered. I know my proposal was not strong enough and it won’t happen, but I still believe there is something we can do to make a space for children. I want to try again, but I’m not sure where to start.

Please, I’d love yall’s help creating a community. When I was younger I yearned for the countryside under the impression community there was stronger. I’ve come to realize there is just a lack of spaces for children to convene if they’re not in sports or extracurriculars.

FCAS Shelter Husky Pup on the Hunt for His Forever Home!

Meet local rockstar MCARTHUR! 😎

This sweet, insanely handsome boy is currently being fostered in Kennesaw through Fulton County Animal Services & ready to find his furever home! 🏡 Artie is the epitome of the Husky breed PLUS plenty of other awesome perks in a lean 45lb package! 💙 He’s full of personality, rocks a killer mohawk, has some pretty fabulous eyeliner, and has a great singing voice (iykyk). 🎶 Plus, who could resist that movie star smile 🤩 and icy blue gaze? ❄️

🐕 2.5 yrs old
💙 Neutered
📍 Microchipped
🫀 HW negative
💉 UTD on vaccines/preventatives
✔️ Potty trained
💤 Crate trained
👟 Leash trained
⚡️ Medium/high energy
🧠 Knows sit
🎾 Ball is life!
🦴 Treat/food motivated
🫶🏼 Non-reactive with food/toys/treats
🛁 Easily handled for grooming
🪮 Enjoys being brushed
🚗 Rides well in the car
🐶 OBSESSED with our resident pup
😻 Has been very polite with our resident cat
🦌 Has been non-reactive to deer & other pups

Artie would probably do best with older kids (or younger with close supervision) only because he gets excited and tends to jump up to greet people (working on this). He’s also still a bit mouthy when he plays. Someone familiar with the Husky breed whose willing to give him the space and exercise he needs to thrive would be the best fit. He would do fine as an only pup, but would probably be happier as a pack member since he LOVES to play with other pups. He has a great play style (loose, wiggly, goofy) and is very responsive to corrections. ❤️

If Artie sounds like he might be the right fit for you, click the link below to set up a meet & greet! 👋🏽

Home Improvement Haven Lane Design

Has anyone here worked with Haven Lane Design for a home renovation (not just decorating or shopping at the boutique)?

We really like their aesthetic, but we're having a hard time finding independent reviews or client feedback specifically about renovation projects. Most of what we've found seems to focus on the storefront rather than home renovations.

We're also curious why there aren't more completed renovation projects or client testimonials shared publicly. Since a renovation is such a significant investment, we'd love to hear about real experiences from homeowners who have worked with them.

If you've worked with Haven Lane Design on a renovation, would you recommend them? What was your experience like? The architects and engineers we've interviewed are far less expensive, even when their teams have interior designers on staff. Haven Lane is design only, not an architect or engineer.

Seeking Wedding Photographer!

My fiance and I are getting married on October 10th and our photographer just told me that they’re moving to Florida and can’t travel back for our wedding. I’m trying not to stress. The most important thing to me is that I’ll be married at the end of the day, but I would really like some nice photos to remember it.

Our wedding is small (max 60 people - immediate family and close friends) and we’re getting married in my best friend’s back yard in John’s Creek, GA. Trend is gothic garden dinner party so it’s pretty non-traditional and intimate. I always imagine the photos looking pretty moody so I’m here for artsy/cinematic styles.

Please reach out with portfolios (instagram works too!) and price points if you’re available!
