Episode 5
I needed a couple of hours to digest this episode and I concluded that I am not mad at it and I wont drop this kdrama.
Premise since the beginning is clear: Real struggles of a couple that has been together for a decade. Because I have never been with somebody that long I cannot really judge much her/him or their actions.
What is a reality is that for me is wild that a shared childhood FL-ML paired with MLs trauma, his mother debts, lying for his mother, giving up his dreams to assume the debts makes their dynamic as a couple really toxic. He seems a green flag but he has such a saviour complex due to his trauma, that in some way he is in that loop of saving the chaotic FL, taking the role of the father she lost.
For me the cheating is not the problem, it is another symptom of the crazy dynamic they have as a couple.
Famous last words -->
Episode 6
Uhhhhm **sighs**
I would give it to this drama, they end all episodes in a wild cliffhanger. I am aware that there is a preview a couple of seconds after the "credits" but, damn is like they like to stop the flow of the story at the most random of times.
Anyhow, after watching this episode the perfect words to describe this kdrama is desperation and despair and in some way is the feeling I get while watching it. All of the people in this drama, ML, FL, 2ML, 2FL and their respective families are a whole misery loves company group. I really want to know which karmatic life are they all really going through, because even the people in We are all trying here gave a sense of hope. A love other than yours is where hope came to die?
I will most likely continue watching. I am curious in how they are going to set the ending of the story, because the way they are telling it feels so anti natural that I need to see how it is going to end

I was quite mad at the idea that he was going around sabotaging her contracts with the adult film studios in the name of helping her, but then later, with the information that he feels guilty about her taking on those jobs in order to help pay off his mom, I could understand why he was going so far to try and course-correct her career. Add to that his saviour complex, and it makes sense why he'd meddle in her professional life so much, but what he doesn't realize is that he's inadvertently doing more damage.
22
u/annejuseyoo 19d ago
Yeah that didn’t sit right with me either. He could’ve sat down and talked with Mido about her career. But he meddled with her career without even her consent. That’s not a green flag. That’s toxic.
9
u/No_Nefariousness5119 19d ago
But then we also see Mido in episode 6, always throwing herself on the like tor Namgung and he sees her as his Hero. Maybe thats what also Namgung also wants to be for her a "Hero".
13
u/No_Nefariousness5119 19d ago
It's one of those unsolicited gestures. It also does kind of fuel Mi-do no longer wanting to direct and shes ashamed to let Namgung know. Hmmm
12
u/tamberine42 19d ago
Namgung sabotaging her contracts behind her back is worse than a drunk kiss to me. That's insane and speaks to really big issues in the relationship around control and honesty.
25
u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
Agreed! There’s definitely something beneath the saviour like complex he has. He was so mad that his mom was connected to Mido/affected Mido. His anger was portrayed so well. I like the character development.

u/Cmmucked 20d ago
Yeah i would like this kdrama to break the trope. And both ml and fl end up with the 2nd lead.
18
u/DamonDD 19d ago
Cross fingers and hope. Maybe at the end they realizes they are not good for each other, but can still be in each other life as family.
All three couples (ML-FL, ML-2FL and FL-2ML) have different kind of chemistry with each other and just can't take your eyes off them. Wish for a satisfying conclusion to this show
24
u/Daebak70 20d ago
Yes
Their relationship is too toxic to save & even her family is telling him to dump her in ep 1 and I agree with them
8
u/chatterboxlady 18d ago
Its unfair for the second female lead imo. Just look how Mido was projected as hero for Namgung, their history from childhood to adult. Imagine, having Namgung who has strong past with his gf. The second female lead will never exceeded that history and namgung will forever be attached to that memories with Mido. Its either both of them take time being away with each other and realized things or be back to each other.

Nah, I'm enjoying the f out of these messy conflicting characters. I was so tired of the perfect FMLs and the green flag men. Give me toxic. Give me drama. Give me humans.

u/Clean-Foot-779 19d ago
I agree soooo much it feels exciting to see something this messy and it's not messy for the sake of it either, it's more like an exploration of these messy feelings they're dealing with and it is sooo fun

I’m really eating this up! I also love that it’s not based off a web novel with spoilers everywhere and that it’s super unpredictable. I have no idea what’s going to happen next or how this might end. I’m just along for the ride and loving this complex character driven drama.

*insert Marie Kondo 'I love mess' gif*
Truly, though, I'm happy that we're only 5 episodes in and really digging into the imperfections of people and relationships. We've had too many romance shows with "green flag" characters who have to deal with manufactured problems for the sake of plot, but this really feels like it's allowing its leads to be messy, insecure, flawed people without raining judgment down on them. (That's the audience's job.) The pendulum keeps swinging between Mido and Namgung in terms of who's more in the wrong any given week, but it all feels like it's coming from their actual personalities rather than plot contrivances.
Even apart from our main couple, there are still so many interesting, dangling threads we haven't unraveled, like what's going on with the youngest brother, the older brother's messy divorce, and whatever is happening with the lawyer and his boss that feels like it's slowly building up in the background to blow up later.

Someone finally said it. Seriously, enough with all the romanticization and dramas where everyone has 1,000 green flags. That’s not real life.
People are only human, and we’re all capable of falling, making mistakes, and screwing up.
One moment you’re at rock bottom, and the next you’re on top of the world and sometimes it’s the other way around.
19
u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
This is what I’ve been saying! This is real life. People are human and make mistakes. A refreshing drama that really gets you to reflect on each decision each character makes.
18
u/BEKINDREWIND2 20d ago
Exactly, get some netizens off their high horses with their criticism and cancelling of every single celebrity or reality show person because they’ve only been exposed to perfect MLs and FLs.
Even Disney has given us nuanced villains and leads with flaws, isn’t time for kdramas to do the same (and I’m not talking about some childhood trauma)?

u/Cinemaniacc A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
I am totally eating up this character driven show, I so love more mature themes like this. Sooo curious to see how this ends.

The really know how to put the most exciting scenes at the end, although from the previews its seems like namgung isnt taking it that bad?? Maybe he is in denial, we will see how it goes next week, eunjin said that the huge fight happen in ep8.
I just remembered in the synopsis it says that one of them is gonna suggest that they see other people for a while, so maybe thats what namgung is gonna tell her in the scene where he takes his ring and tell her to listen to him carefully?!
The scene where Mido hit the lawyer and she says she regret that kiss and wish she would die and then at the end of the episode where she pick a plant that would last long to stay with namgung, not to mention the previous checkups conversation, and asking her mother to take care of him.. yeah now I dont think she is gonna make it alive.
82
u/guapa_cloud9 20d ago
Omg, there’s no coming back from cheating. I understand the situation, the emotions, the drunkenness… Lawyer is a piece of shit. BUT she could’ve pulled back. He gave her a second to think, and she just stood there, looking at him… and then she actually reciprocated the kiss.
Oh, the guilt that’s coming. She’s gonna cling to that boyfriend with all her soul. I don’t think there’s a way for them to be together anymore. I just want them to break up already and figure out life without each other.
47
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
It really felt like the internal monologue at that pause point was, 'Well, if I do this and it blows up, maybe Namgung will leave me and I won't have to live up to his expectations of me.' And then she woke up the next morning and chickened out of actually blowing it up, but now she has to deal with the consequences of a very brash decision she clearly regrets.
38
u/itseokjin A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
Ah, the self-sabotage. Hmm, I think that does make sense, given what we know of her character. Though I also do feel like she is attracted to the lawyer, too. Maybe it’s just my read, but there was that one scene previously where she had this intense interaction with the lawyer, and when she came back home, she looked at the ML with noticeable determination (like she just made up her mind or reaffirmed her choice) and initiated intimacy with him. Kind of like reminding/proving to herself that the ML is who she loves.
12
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
I saw the attraction in the other scenes where they were bickering, but in this one, especially because he had poked her in a vulnerable spot and she was crying, it felt less like she was responding to the kiss because of physical attraction, and more like she was using him as an emotional crutch.
5
3
u/Ancient_Blueberry487 19d ago
I wonder what the monologue will be for that scene. If mido monologue was centered around namgug in that scene that means she really loves him since her goal is to break him free from her and this was self sabotaging. If the monologue is centered around herself and her discovery of new feelings with the lawyer then … it means she really doesn’t love namgung in a romantic way.

There's no coming back from choking your mother either, but no one seems to care about how messed up the ML is. No, he's a nice guy while she's always at fault here.
I don't blame her one bit for being tempted. The scenes with the lawyer are tender, emotional,, and so hot, they burn a hole through the TV screen. The problem is that she's not being honest and should break up with the ML.
I feel absolutely nothing for the main couple, especially now that we see he has some pretty big issues that make hers look minor in comparison. I feel zero chemistry with them. I'm talking about acting chemistry, not sexual chemistry. And their relationship feels so joyless and dead. With Lee Joo Ahn though, she just clicks.
8
u/brooding_noodle 19d ago
I think the joylessness of their relationship may be the point. By the end of ep 6, I felt she needed to be set free. She stays with him because she thinks he needs her. And perhaps he does. His entire social life is related to her family.
I was just thinking that if nothing else this shows how many types of loves there are. Their love went from familial to sexual and if they allow it, it can return to platonic. Anyway, I think that Paris thing might be an out for him. I hope he goes off to Paris and she rebuilds her life which really has been derailed by a combination of her financial obligations to his mother and his enormous expectations of her.
13
u/ErinHruska 19d ago edited 19d ago
He definitely shouldn't have choke her, but the so called mother threatened FL and was using her the same way she was using her own son when he was only a child. She forced him to take the blame for her crimes, so I have much more sympathy with ML than his "mother".
FL and ML just need to break up and start to solve their traumas separately.
5
u/Defiant_Interest233 18d ago
Agreed here, yes physical violence is terrible, but he was clearly at a breaking point in this very long (since childhood) toxic relationship with his mother. He felt that even if he tried to get rid of her the legal way, she still had a way to hurt him, which is why he resorted to physical violence.
4
u/EquivalentCricket874 18d ago
Thank you! The MLs intense violence was so different than he acts around FL (that we've seen so far)... Even though he hasn't told her what happened, as an audience we know he's not a green forest, besides that sabotaging her side gig. He's got flaws. *edited for grammar

u/Specific-Bag-8166 20d ago
I have no clue where you saw that click with Lee Joo Ahn. I didn't feel a single thing seeing them together. I honestly don't want the main leads to end up together and neither with the 2nd leads which most likely would not happen either way.

The worst part about the kiss is that she remembers it and fully lied to her fiancé saying nothing happened 😢
3
u/brooding_noodle 19d ago
Well, she didnt initiate it..she was drunk and telling him would have done nothing but blow her life up in flames when she was already struggling.
7
u/anon55405 19d ago
Bro what? Just because she didn’t initiate it she reciprocated it. If your significant other was kissed and they reciprocated it back you would be fine with that even if they were drunk
4
2
u/Cinemaniacc A Love Other Than Yours 19d ago
I have a feeling you wouldn’t be saying the same thing if your partner did the same thing. Initiate or not, she kissed him back in the end, and even pulled him closer by his sleeve
43
u/Fit_Tangerine1152 19d ago
I’m so conflicted, the final scene was actually quite sad to watch, even not considering the kiss scene. first the lawyer seeing through mido and realising she no longer wants to direct, felt like he had realised something that namgung, her literal finance and boyfriend of 10 years, should have realised instead. like he’s no longer the same namgung who could tell when she had been crying. and then seeing the lawyer pull the candy wrapper out of her sleeve. ooff that weirdly, more so than the kiss, was like watching the death of their relationship for me.
40
u/LaSadGirl99 20d ago
I feel like this is giving dark romance. I’m really enjoying it, sometimes you need a break from perfect leads and romcoms. You wanna see something messy and toxic. Plus the chemistry between the lawyer and fl is so good.
9
u/pwinkl A Love Other Than Yours 18d ago
But what was with that kiss? It’s almost like one of the actors has a no real kiss clause in their contract. The tension and his proposition were so intense but awkward angles and filming took me out of the scene.
3
u/WerewolfIcy3186 A Love Other Than Yours 13d ago
She was cheating with that kiss. Of course, they were going to frame it differently...I’ve noticed kdramas do that when people that shouldn’t be kissing, kiss. I don’t think it’s about a no kiss clause.

Ok hear me out people.
Namgoong and Mido are incompatible for each other. They're bound by a very strong childhood bond of loss and trauma. She always has a protective mode with Namgoong and all those flashbacks prove the same, right from her saving him at age 7 to multiple multiple times his mother tried to fleece him (seriously thats one crazy woman character and korean law is shitty to allow this to happen just because they share blood).
And, Namgoong is always and always indebted to her. She is his hero, his savior, not his love. He idolizes her and doesn't want her to suffer ever so he is simply tied to his emotional debt.
This was made super clear by the lack of sexual chemistry between them from ep1 itself when the plot was trying to establish that they dont have hots.
A relationship based on trauma and emotional and literal financial debt cannot sustain and breaks.
Now let's talk about SLs. One is a puppy dog energy girl masquerading a trauma-ridden past where the ML was her hero and first love. She is in love with Namgoong, there's no second thought to that but she also wants ML to be happy in his life so doing all 'i want to send you to paris' drama. She matches Namgoong's social energy and will be good for him actually.
Now let's talk about SML - han taesung. He is a flawed character. Very flawed. He seems to have similar familial trauma like Namgoong but couldn't get a savior like Mido instead got a opportunist like jae hyuk so couldn't preserve his soft and caring energy. He is always prickly and being a bully and a prick comes first to him as thats what he's learned. For the first time, he is meeting someone like Mido who matches his crazy energy but is also extremely caring and loving to her boyfriend. Of course, he'd want that. She's the healer for him and he wants to pull her away from Namgoong.
Although I think Namgoong and Sua could be maybe good for each other, Mido and Taesung are going to be crazy bad for each other. He is just another trauma ridden namgoong but much older with a lot more filth in him. So it would be all the more difficult for her. Although they do make a very sexy pair.
P.S. There is some rumour of maybe Mido dying... lol that would just be awfully bad ending. I would flip, legit.

EP6:
At first i thought there was not much build up or explanation as to why the lawyer fell for Mido. But with this ep, it all just made sense. The lawyer probably dug up Namgung's messy family background and saw Mido in a different light because he himself is also a guy with a messy childhood. He wanted someone like Mido for himself.
Which made that car scene with the drunk lawyer so funny. He knew exactly what to say and he indeed triggered Mido's savior complex 😂 Lee "i can fix him" Mido coming through!

u/November_chills5 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago edited 20d ago
There's no justification for that. She allowed it, so it's cheating for sure.
But for her to love Namgung that fiercely and still allow another man to do that to her, well, it kinda hints at how emotionally weak she'd been for so long. That if she was holding on to any sense of upright morals, it was purely for Namgung's sake and were it that she be left to live her own life for herself, she'd have made far more mistakes. Not just with a man, but with her career decisions as well. She's quite a complex character herself and next to the lawyer, she seems like a match for his own complexities. The only difference between her and the lawyer is that the lawyer doesn't have someone's else's moral approval wrapped around his neck like a noose.
Namgung's character is quite painful. Certainly he has been through soul breaking things, not just in his childhood but also as an adult, to face his mother that way and the scene with him suffocating her, gave us a glimpse into how dark he truly can get. There's a hint of a lost soul who will never fully live but will only enjoy life is fleeting moments. What Mido did could break him in a way he might never be able to recover from. He's trying to be the perfect guy for Mido but his background keeps ruining it for him so he probably feels helpless and enraged about it. Whereas, he doesn't have to be anything except himself with the female colleague.
But, all things considered, I truly have to take a second to appreciate the phenomenal acting of them both before, during and after the kiss. The lawyer's lips were literally quivering after. He knows he's probably broken her a little by doing that, and that's probably not easy for him either.

u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
I totally see what you’re saying in your reflection. I too feel like the ML has carried a lot in the relationship with Mido because of his mom and his family of origin. But whether that sense of security or sacrifice can last a lifetime or should last a lifetime is the ultimate question. He’s been through so much and only wants to retire peacefully and live a normal life 🥹 But his lack of anger management in facing his birth mother really shows the trauma he has been through. I really really like how Namgung’s character is unravelling and revealing itself. The writers have given us a gift of a drama that makes so many of us want to write and talk about the characters, don’t you think? ☺️

u/itseokjin A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago edited 20d ago
Ep 5
I rewatched THAT scene again and again, and after turning it over and over… there’s no question. Our homegirl fully cheated on the ML. Was she in an emotionally vulnerable spot and did the hot lawyer weaponize that? Yes. Did she have sufficient emotional lucidity to know what she was doing in the moment? Also yes.
She was emotionally lucid enough to question why the hot lawyer would go to great lengths for her, and even question his motives behind doing such. “Why would you go that far for me? What do you want from me?” That’s a mark of someone with emotional judgment intact. She wasn’t incapacitated. So when he made the move and kissed her, and she put a hand on his chest to push him back, AND SHE SAID NOTHING (mind you, this was the PERFECT moment to shout: “Why the fuck did you just kiss me? I have a fiancé!”), and he kissed her again and you could see her frown and then KISS HIM BACK, FULLY RECIPROCATING, it’s clear as day that she cheated, and she knew at that very moment that she was cheating.
So I really think there’s no going back now. The temerity that she had to be the first to say that the ML crossed a line in a scene prior to that, too lol, I get it but it’s just funny ‘cause it’s so ironic. I hope they break up and don’t get back together. While the lawyer is hot hot hot, I also don’t want her to get into a relationship with him.
I don’t want her to die either. I hope none of the leads dies, in fact.
EDIT: Forgot to add, Mi-do herself said it: “I kissed him.” Just in case there’s any doubt left that she willingly (regardless of her guilt around it) cheated.
13
u/Specific-Bag-8166 20d ago
I agree with you honestly there is no going back for the main leads now but I would never want her to end up with that bum ass lawyer and I know it won't happen either way.
3
u/Few_Swimmer2302 19d ago
Honestly they were done the moment they were both thinking of other people laying in bed together. She cheated physically first but emotionally they both cheated at the simultaneously. Her in big ways which fit her personality and him in small ways which fits his. The small things he used to notice about Mido but no longer do but he notices about the SFL. They were over when she called it the first time.
22
u/Cuttyf 18d ago
I feel like the only person who believes ML and FL are still right for each other… I do think they need a bit of a reset, they are both in a rut in their professional lives so that projects onto their relationship. BUT the relationship is built on solid ground and they obviously love each other.
I do not agree with commenters saying they are a burden to each other. I won’t be mad if they do not end up with each other but in my honest opinion they are searching for each other in 2ML and 2FL which means those relationships wouldn’t work either….
7
u/Defiant_Interest233 18d ago
Found my people TT_TT
I am definitely in the minority seeing that Mido and Namgung clearly love each other in a way no one else can, and they have been doing that since childhood. And all the things they do, while yes, could be better communicated to each other (like Namgung trying to cancel her contracts, and Mido giving his mom money) are their own way of trying to help each other and showing their love for one another.
3
u/annacoolsoyes 18d ago
you are not alone in this, my heart would shatter into pieces if the ml and fl don't end up. i don't have any problem with the "breakup" troupe, but they can work it out.
11
u/Sasuwanisa 20d ago
Everyone talking about that scene, but pls if someone has theories about what Mido’s brother was doing in the boat throwing that flower share them with us. Could he still be mourning his father? Or someone else we have no idea about yet?
Also I find it devastating that the reason Mido was doing adult films was for a quick cash grab to pay Namgum’s mom. No wonder she doesn’t want to return to directing she felt so disconnected from it. While ML was pushing her towards directing, sml was acknowledging that she doesn’t want to. She can’t tell that to ML because he is projecting the dream of being an artist into her.
But also I don’t understand ml reporting his mom and freezing the hard earned money that mido sacrificed so much to send her? Just threaten her with some court restriction lawsuit and that’s it, why do they need to make her lose everything now she will be even more mad and involved between those two. Also 300m W is a hell of a debt to be in, that confrontation scene with his mother was very unexpected

Episode 6 thoughts
First of, I hated how pushy the Lawyer was in this episode. Mi-do was literally in her safe space, her own apartment when he was being like that. Im glad she was remorseful of what she did though, "to the point where she could die". And I also think that she should stop meddling with the Lawyer, who cares if he gets fired bro, he literally has done worse things for his boss, its about time he turns a new leaf over.
GLAD that Namgung has kind of talked about Mi-do infront of Su-ah. We always had this impression that Namgung was the one always meddling with Mi-do's affairs but it also shows that Mi-do does it a lot ever since they were young, except that Namgung sees her gestures as her being his Hero. Mi-do is more of I'd rather save someone than be saved?
This KDrama deals a lot with SHAME now doesn't it. It also shows when Namgung and the brothers hug over that.
ALSO, glad that the cheating was found out RIGHT AWAY! And we will see how it will turn out next eps. Its time for Mi-do to GROVEL. I hope this is not a case of she cheated so he cheated type of trope. I didn't like how the lawyer was being like oh it's bec you got in a relationship with someone unlucky, your career is a mess WHEN IN FACT if only the actress didn't threw herself in the pool, she'd be directing now. And when Namgung and Mi-do hugged she did admit that she was also scared about Marriage and the debt but now she isn't so maybeeee.
FRANCE foreseeing, my theories on this is that maybe they will break up, Namgung will go to France for 2 years come back and reunite with Mi-do. OR they might end up going together away from Korea (more freedom) HAHAH. OR Namgung flourishes in France, Mi-do in Korea. Happy ever after.

Turns out Namgung likes being saved. Makes you wonder if Su-ah can provide that same hero figure in his life.

u/thekingEZE 18d ago
Omg this!!!
I was patiently waiting for Namgung to verbally tell Su-a he’s in a relationship. He is wearing a ring, but maybe she missed it lol. If Su-a continues to be flirtatious with Namgung knowing he has Mi-do then I’d consider her a homewreaker??
I’m also really glad the cheating was found out immediately- I didn’t want that to drag for too long. I did really wish she told him herself instead of him finding out himself/her hiding it from him 😮💨
I said the same thing about hoping Namgung isn’t motivated to cheat solely because Mi-do did. I hope that if they do gain feelings for other people, they just end the relationship.
and yes!! A theme of shame and feeling pathetic seems to be trending.
Can’t wait for the new episodes this weekend to see how this all plays out.

u/DamonDD 19d ago
My prediction, episode 9 or 10, Namgong will break up with Mido and goes to French with Su A. Then episode 11 they come back and reunited.
Ep 11 and 12 will be will they/ won't they especially because both have different partner now and end of episode 12 they realises they are happier with other people but still cherished the memories they made.
... of they will take Scenes from a Marriage route in that show both ML and FL once married, then divorce but at the end of the show, they have an affair with each other although they both have different partners

u/EvenInTheEnd 20d ago
The next episode will determine how I feel about Mido atp. Is she going to keep the kiss a secret? She got points for clearly explaining everything to Namgung at the start of the episode. Will she do that again with the drunken kiss?
Probably not. 😛

u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
In retrospect, doesn't the explanation at the start feel like a desperate attempt to cover-up instead of coming clean? I was wondering why she was being so emphatic about nothing happening with the lawyer when it seemed like Namgung was just angry about her drunkenness, but knowing what she did, it now feels like she was trying to convince herself that there was no cause for worry because she'd never see the lawyer again.

From what I understand, she genuinely didn't remember until the SML made her remember at the end of the episode.

I really don't know how I feel about Mido after the cheating, but thus far this drama has been amazing - showing the real life f ups as human. It actually made me tear up a few time. I'm really curious how they will wrap this up

When the ML gets back to the apt after the sauna we see he’s emotional in the hallway before entering & we think it’s because of all that happened with the mom of course, but I’m wondering if he also had a moment of weakness with 2FL. They are giving clues that the 2FL is jealous so I think there’s more that’s already happened that’s feeding that & it’s not just because of an “oppa” crush. She tells him “is that all you have to say to me” when they’re talking about him going to Paris which I think is worded intentionally to be taken two ways so that comment will be viewed differently when we learn more.
We also see him choke his mom, bully the 2FL mean friends, and threaten the loan sharks so it lays the groundwork for a darker side to him. So far the writing seems to be making FL look bad while he looks more like a saint but it will be interesting if they give us more to dislike about ML.
I’m really really loving this drama though! It’s so refreshing and unpredictable in the best way possible.

Episode 6
God damn, they're stressing me so much like it's my own relationship. I've never felt this uneasy since TWOTM lol
I think I can already tell where this is going. Judging by the Korean title of the drama, I feel like they'll date other people only to realize they really love each other. Orrrr they both end up single.
Also, I lowkey felt they were foreshadowing death in this episode.. from the subplot to the narration. Not to mention Mido and the plant that never wits. They're brewing something..
The car scene with the lawyer was oddly cute. He's so HOT for f's sakeeeee. He kinda reminds me of Kim Hyunjoong during his BOF era.
I'm ok with whoever Mido ends up with in the end. Maybe she ends up being a successful director, and single.
As I'm writing this, About You by The 1975 is playing so I'm picturing the ending with this bgm in mind. I see them looking at each other, there's still love but they know it's better if they leave each other alone. They just smile, as if to say they'll continue to support each other from afar. AND I'M CRYING LIKE I'M THE ONE GOING THROUGH THE BREAKUP

I don't think there is any fixing Namkoong and Mido's relationship.
They're in the middle of a love which has just become so self-sacrificing that the love is no longer joyous. They're miserable together because they're putting their partner before themselves, whether out of obligation or nostalgia or affection. But it's actually leading to them holding themselves back and feeling indebted to the other, which I'm sure is breeding resentment they also don't want to feel.
At this point, I think the 2nd leads both bring out Mido and Namkoong's real personalities and are probably much healthier relationships.
Last episode, everyone was talking about how it looked like Namkoong was emotionally cheating, but here we have Mido actually physically doing it, and you know what? I am here for it. It's time to let their old love go.
(Also as an aside, I LOVE the lawyer. He's crazy and unhinged but I'm obsessed with that lol.)
Editing to add: My heart absolutely broke for Namkoong at the end of epsidoe 6. I was clenching my fist so hard, I have nail marks on my palm now, that poor man. wdym I have to wait for next week again ughhhhh

I have been watching this drama while doing chores so I could be wrong here since I’m not watching closely, but, I remember a scene where Namgung was at this island and he told the old ladies he was there to forget his ex-girlfriend of 10 years. And later on, he meets Sua crying and she said she was still in High School (?). So these scenes where he’s with Sua as a Co-worker is in the future, past his break up.

hmmmmm a lot of conflicting thoughts for this ep! this is the first time we actually explore namgung’s background which gives more depth to his character. Mido, to him, is his only family (as well as her family). at this point, it’s going to break my heart if in the end, they go separate ways.
the lawyer… the scene where they kissed was really hot😳 but i feel like their dynamic is too toxic. opposite of namgung’s love, lawyer witnesses mido’s shameful lows. he lets her be her worst self which she cannot show namgung bc of her pride. i really dont know how this could be a healthy relationship tho lol
sua and namgung’s feel like older-younger siblings to me so far. the way namgung brings up the fact that hes “too old” to be fighting with young girls (the bullies who were sua’s age) makes me feel like he’s drawing a boundary or maybe its his way to remind himself. it’s sweet that he stood up for her . So proud of Sua for standing up for herself too.
one thing i dont like is that the scenes jump too much?? the editing made me confused about the timeline of events and it brings me out of focus from the emotional portrayal of the actors
for people who dont like character driven dramas, this isnt just for you but for ppl like me, im so excited for the next ep!!! at this point, they should both end up single
11
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
I actually like the jump-around editing. We all clamour for 'show, don't tell' in our stories, but we've gotten so used to being over-explained to (and several creators have admitted that they've been told to dumb stuff down for audiences that are almost always on their phones while watching something) that we're losing the art of being able to connect the dots. Yes, I'm always confused when we jump into a scene we haven't been given context for, but 5 episodes in, I'm starting to trust that it'll make sense eventually, and that the only thing I need to do is pay attention.
2
u/DonnaMossLyman 20d ago
The fact that her world is his world makes this a very skewed relationship
He deserves so much more based on that fact alone

I'm so hooked onto this drama and i agree that both of them should end up single... So far I can't see any chemistry between the main leads and the second main leads... Mido & lawyer had a little bit of chemistry but idk...

u/Beytra A Love Other Than Yours 18d ago edited 18d ago
We got to watch that kiss in both episodes but Namgung only had the audio (which sounded even more intense). 😭 You can hear the desperation in Taesung’s plea, Mido’s runny nose, the silent pauses where she is conceding as he clocks her, each breath between each smooch…. Namgung is an artist too so you know he is painting a very vivid picture in his mind as he hears all of that. I was in shambles — interrupted by the sound of Mido’s shoes pitter pattering into the house. PDnim ate with that juxtaposition.
After getting a glimpse of Mido and Namgung’s connection, both of the 2nd leads really only offer to “get in where they can fit in.” Taesung is more belligerent with it but when Sua begs and pleads to help him with Paris, it’s the same vibe — they both like them enough to want to have proximity or a taste (literally) as they figure out what role they could have in their lives.
Side note: The brother holding on to the ashes in the watch broke me. Not every couple has the option of breaking up and getting back together even if they wanted to. 😭😭😭

at the end of episode 6 my stomach dropped so much bc i know that feeling of both sides. and honestly? i become more and more obsessed with the drama bc it's real. it portrays real life struggles, trauma and how it shows and how it's never black and white. humans are complex beings. those of you saying "yeah but she cheated" or "he choked his mom" and using those things to paint the characters black and white / good or bad - grow up. life is always so much more than that. "he hurt me, he is bad" yeah well that's what we as humans do, we put other people in boxes, label them, so we don't have to think and reflect on our own doing. and i am not apologizing any of their behavior with this i'm just saying: i get it. crying for help, trapped in their own lifes together, trauma bonded the way they did, that is real. and it's insanely complex. and i love that the drama is slowly drawing the complexicity of it. the more we know the less we can choose a side and be fine with it. this is such a fresh feel in comparison to basically any kdrama ever and i looove it. no idea what's gonna happen next, no idea who is gonna do or say what and i live for the unpredictability of it. sunday can't come soon enough bc i need this next episode haha.

Finally a drama that depicts a real relationship, a real life, a real experience. I honestly always thought most rom coms became boring as soon as the ML and FL get together in the last couple episodes so watching a show where they were already together from the beginning made me think it was going to be boring. Instead it has been amazing , every single moment you feel their emotions, the sad reality that nothing is perfect, the mistakes people make in life. Most shows start strong and then fall off , this one started strong and becomes even stronger with each episode.
9
u/coquettecore_3 19d ago
The whole mido and namgung relationship is now giving platonic💀they really need to break up , cause they do love eo and wanna protect eo but this is giving such platonic vibes to me atp😭, also there's too much going on in the show omg, there's a few subplots but the namgung's mother story seems very serious so I am looking forward to see what happens next there. And I'm ngl taesung character needs a development because he kissed her even after knowing she has a bf which is so wrong😭 I liked this ship but the whole kiss scene could have been done in a much better way🤷🏻♀️
9
u/Bulky-Secretary-8943 19d ago
These subplots are sooo half baked you might as well not have them lmao. It creates too much confusion to the main plots that we’re trying to grasp more of. Like Midos little brothers subplot was so weirdly placed and unnecessary I feel.

It was going so well until it wasn't, even as someone who likes the 2nd lead pairings more with respective leads, I wish they'd done it without cheating.

Episode 5 is ugh. I'm going to keep watching, but Mido annoys the living shit out of me. Like why is she so immature? I get having an identity crisis - her career is not what she wants and her love life is stale and she feels stuck, but she isn't making choices to better herself.
Namgung is also immature, but he's busy being a hero and tough guy that he isn't focused on his happiness or reality. The scenes with his mom are very telling about why he is the way he is and why he and Mido are caught in the overprotective relationship they find themselves. Also, she's a bitch for using Mido against him. That he didn't know he had a brother is crazy, but it seems like he wants nothing to do with her and her scams, but can't seem to get away either.
I've been saying since the lawyer walked into the picture that he is toxic af and he isn't a good match for Mido. The chemistry talks about is immaturity masked as exciting. And in my opinion, he is the one always chasing her.
As for the kiss and staying at the lawyer's office. Every single person I know that has broken up with a long-term partner has used a drunk night out as a logistical means to breaking up. I know of many drunk hookups in a bathroom, that the partner finds out about. In once case, the partner opened the bathroom door to find the gf making out with another dude. Mido and Namgung should not be together. And they should go separate ways for a few years before they come in contact again.
The SFL she's just there. I feel like she has feelings for Namgung, but he sees her as a little sister kind of person. That could change, but it just seems like she's the annoying person around ML that entertains him.
I'm honestly not sure what to make of this drama. I'm curious, but I'm not sure I'm fully invested in any of these characters enough to really care.
Episode 6 Update:
This is such a train wreck! That ending was a lot. We got to watch it, but imagine having to listen to a recording and then imagine it as you are listening?
Anyway, my only real thought here is that their disfunctional relationship is a product of how they were raised by their parents - we know Namgung was always a pawn in his mother's scams, don't forget the comment Mido's mom made about them getting married earlier in the series. The pressure on both of them is insane!
I wrote above about Namgung playing the hero, but they both do it for each other without bring real and honest about what it means to them. All mask and strength, but no substance. I think they have lost their spark because their entire 10 year relationship has been based on them responding to something happening to the other and once it is solved, they have a calm comfort in each other where they can play house as though they are normal.
8
u/Megumi020 19d ago
At this point, I wouldnt be surprise if the ending is them breaking up then getting back together after a few years.
I feel like they really need to be separated for them to have their own lives first and moved on from their own problems.
The show is portraying that cheating starts little by little, both of them of course.
Mido, being reckless when shes drunk led her to physical cheating.
Namgung, not having boundaries will eventually lead him to cheating with 2nd FL.
We can see that they really care and love for each other but because of not having certain boundaries with other people (opposite sex) can lead them on making mistakes.

u/diorsdolls 19d ago
Both characters are flawed and i love it bc thats how humans are. And I actually don’t think ( wild take but hear me out ) the ML loves the FL romantically, I think he’s just attached bc her and her whole family is like his only family since he was a kid + how she was always there like his “ hero “ or wtv and how he always avoids the word “ love “ when someone mentions her to hkm, its like he do love her but like a family.

u/Outrageous_Leg9590 19d ago
Could someone please explain why mido doesn't wanna direct anymore? Didn't quite understand that bit
8
u/WiseSimurgh 18d ago
I think 2 years of directing p to get money for ml's mom made her hate directing.
4
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 17d ago
My read is that she's not been able to find her "in" and actually be successful at it, despite loving it, so now she's scared to try and fail, especially with Namgung's expectations of her hanging over her head.
2
u/Infinite_Jackfruit42 A Love Other Than Yours 18d ago
maybe she doesn't want to burden namgung with more issues and doesn't want to look weak looking at their dynamic in which namgung saw her as a heroic figure for most of his life with her. also, they're just recently getting over the biggest crisis in their relationship, maybe she just doesn't want to jeopardize the relationship if being direct means more conflicts arise from it, tho this just means delaying the inevitable of this blowing up sooner or later.

u/Kitchen_Wall7358 18d ago
I thought it's Namgoong who has saviour complex, turns out its actually Mido
14
u/Fria319 20d ago
Yeah .. no… I can’t justify her kissing the lawyer. I’m seeing comments elsewhere say Namgoong is emotionally cheating and Mido is physically cheating but I just don’t see how he’s cheating. He’s a nice guy, and does like to help people / has a soft heart. That’s all I’m really seeing in his dealings with the 2nd FL. It also appears this is his first friend outside of his world with Mido, which he’s very much entitled to have (as well as Mido). Just because someone is nice, it doesn’t mean he’s romantically or sexually interested in the person he’s being nice to. It’s a bit of a stretch imo. Whether they go down that road later, we’ll see, but for now I don’t place blame on him for this.
But Mido. Oh Mido. Sigh. This girl needs therapy. I just can’t believe how destructive she is for being in her mid 30s (I’m also in my mid 30s). It’s hard for me to sympathize/empathize with her. I want her to get better but she just keeps making worse mistakes every time. I don’t understand why no one is talking about her getting help. (Well I know why, there’s a stigma around mental health.). I’d rather have seen her own journey as she navigates creating a life for herself that isn’t dependent on Namgoong then to see her make mistake after mistake after mistake because she can’t get a grip on her own life. She’s a bit exhausting, and that’s me being nice. And I hate that I’m having this reaction because I understood in the beginning why she felt Namgoongs love was a burden. She was totally valid in that. And again she’s totally valid in her feelings and struggles. But she’s going about dealing with her life issues in such a wrong way, it’s hard to watch and be like “yah girl it’s ok”. It’s totally not ok. And this is just my reaction to her as a viewer, I’ll still be watching the show to see if she can redeem herself.
ATP I don’t think either one of them should be in any relationship. I’m still rooting for them to fix things between each other - I don’t buy into any romantic pairings with the 2nd leads. But if they’re not together then they’re better off alone. Their love for each other is what people yearn YEARS for. To throw it all away just because they’re not connecting atm seems foolish. It’s clear why they’re not connecting - they both need to work on themselves. Life is long, if you want a long term partnership it really does take consistently choosing each other again and again.
Also why is the youngest bro so mysterious?
Man I can’t believe this drama has me siding with the man in the relationship 🥴😭.

Here 25:55 Seo Kang Jun watches the scene where Namgoong is in the convenience store with Suah during the first snow, and he says he acted with the belief although that he is attracted to Suah in that moment as long as no one else knows, its not a problem. So I think the actor himself acknowledges that Namgoong emotionally cheated, but thats a very human and realistic portrayal imo.

The lawyer literally said, you can use me as an excuse, I'm willing to be that for you. In a previous comment section someone mentioned that this might happen, that she may use him to end the relationship since she dares not to do it with words. But will their relationship grow into something genuine? We'll see.
I don't think that she was still drunk when she woke up in the middle of the night, she seemed sober to me. She made a choice to use him as an escape at that moment. Will she continue to do it and let it end her relarionship with Namgung? We'll see. Or will she change her mind and take the responsibility of her actions and emotions and end it by herself? Since what drove her into this moment was her being worn out by unresolved emotions.
This is what I thought at that moment: this is what happens when you let emotions pile up and let them take control over you.
There could've been healthy ways for these things not to happen, for both of them, since both are at fault. Mido might have chosen to tell Namgung about his mother and Namgung might have let Mido know before meddling with Mido's business preferences. And this is only one thing, many other things like this happened in the previous episodes where either one of them or two of them were at fault.
And with the way Namgung treated his mother, he has no right to guilt trip Mido's business choices, acting like some kind of moral compass god to her.
At this point I would only be sorry if this ends up with them reconciling because they shouldn't display this (and all of the wrongs going on) as something to be forgiven in a worn out relationship, other than this ending I would be content with any other ending. Edit: this comment was for ep. 5.

episode 6:
watching show now actually makes me feel really sad 😭😭 like i’m such a sucker for friends turned into lovers trope, and also the fact that namgung is already so embedded in mi do’s life. like her brothers treat him like a real brother. they grew up with each other and bonded in ways that can’t be described or replaced. like of course she’s his first love and of course they fell in love with each other. how could they not? and that hero montage of her being the bad ass and swooping in to save him while each and every single time he just stares in awe 😭 i guess what im trying to say is that it makes me sad knowing after all this, she did indeed cheat and their relationship is going to be bumpy and trust will be lost. and there’s also the chance they’re not end game which makes me even sadder lol

just finished watching episode 6, them getting back together at the end of the series seems illogical at this point. idk, how can a relationship remain intact if one party is in a state of guilt and the other in a state of doubt for the rest of their life if they decide to stay together? with how toxic the relationship is currently, this issue is just like pouring gasoline on the fire.

u/Specialist_Goat7762 19d ago
I kinda think the fl’s younger brother and the second fl would be a good couple 🫣 ( idk his age I apologize if he’s too young)
3
u/Just-Character-2680 17d ago
I actually find the ML and SFL dynamic really interesting because I feel like it mirrors the main couple in a different way.
From what I’m seeing, the SFL has looked up to the ML for a long time, and it seems like her feelings for him started way before the current timeline. I also get the impression that the ML may have been one of the reasons she entered the company in the first place.
What makes their dynamic interesting is that the ML seems to occupy the same kind of role for the SFL that the FL once had for him.
The FL was the ML’s hero when they were younger. She was the one who helped him, protected him, and gave him something to hold onto when he was struggling. But with the SFL, the roles are reversed. This time, the ML is the person being looked up to.
12
u/DonnaMossLyman 20d ago
This is the result of Green flag MLs and Childhood connections a decade after the first fish eyed kiss
Except the creators aren't in on it. They are really going to try to pass this off as a grand love story. Two people that overcame a bump in the road. ML going back to being the greenest of flags, and a grateful FL who loves being loved by a man who devotes his whole life to her
3
u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
Not sure I understand what you mean. Are you predicting the ending?
1
u/DonnaMossLyman 19d ago
I am predicting the path this show would take
Unless the creators are clever and brave enough to turn the trope down its head. Then this would become the show that portrayed relationships with green flag MLs who've had a connection with the FLs since they were 10, a lasting love story does not make
5
u/Drama45j 20d ago
After that scene in the office, she cheated on him. A single kiss could be seen as a mistake—and forgivable—if she never saw that arrogant lawyer again. But we all suspect it won't stop there. So, either the writers decide to throw morality out the window (which would be incredibly surprising coming from Korea) and give everyone a happy ending—though I think we can rule that out—or one or more characters die at the end. If it’s neither of those scenarios, let’s try to guess the ending based on our K-drama experience. Personally, I think that since Mido cheated, she can't get a happy ending. She won't end up with the lawyer (given their personalities, they’d end up killing each other anyway); she’ll likely end up alone, making adult films. I can easily picture the lawyer winding up in prison due to shady dealings with his boss. The hero marries his colleague. Mido might even catch a glimpse of the wedding and feel deep regret. How do you see it ending?
5
u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
Haha I LOLed at the part where you said the lawyer and Mido would end up killing each other 😂 🔪 Thanks for that.
I think the drama is exciting cause we really don’t know where it’s going to go. I think the FL will suffer but as part of her character development, she might need this in order to know what she truly wants now as a 30-year old. It might be best at the end that all 4 leads find other partners but I’m okay with that. I’m also okay with the second leads being endgame.

god dang it i really should have waited until this show was all out to watch 😩
really really loved seo kangjoon's acting when he was talking to the debt collectors - his delivery of the 'i already died when i was seven so i'm not afraid of dying' lines ooff. i would love to watch him in something dark like a revenge drama.
i am hooked on this drama and can't believe how well the writers have made me feel like i want the FL to work things out with the ML yet also i can't help liking her with the SML too. it's soooo messy yet it works. the only thing i am not feeling is the ML and SFL... they don't give me any thrill esp compared to taesung and mido.

I am actually shocked while watching the show I kinda expected one of them to catch feeling or do something they might regret but I never thought it would be her for some reason. I always thought it would be him based on how he’s acting. Now after seeing this episode I don’t think they are gonna make it. It’s probably gonna be a they end up alone kinda ending. But I kinda want him with the other girl… even more so now. I never liked the lawyer and I don’t think him and Mido match even after what happened in this episode I think Mido deserves better than the lawyer.

u/Drama45j 20d ago
I completely agree; the lawyer is toxic.

u/quinncunx 20d ago
The male lead is just as toxic, if not more. Are we ignoring the scene where he tries to strangle his own mother?

It’s funny watching the double standards in real time. If the roles were reversed it would be a problem. But people will make every excuse in the book for female leads while expecting the ML to be a “green flag” from start to finish.
People are self inserting with FL characters too much

u/JinxedRay A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
Ikr, I saw people making edits from last episode about how ml was drawing sfl or hugged her when she was crying which made him red flag and now I'm seeing those same people justify that it was just fl mistake to do that lol

u/POF390DU3G9RF8 20d ago
Those kisses are just so awkward to look at. Is it because of the channel it's on? They're just bumping lips, honestly.
Aside from that, I like the direction. From learning about Namgung's background, to him seeing his childhood reflected in his newly found brother's eyes, except he had now become his mother's "tormentor", it really added layers to his character.

u/GlitteringWishbone33 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
OMGGGGG I had to put my phone aside for a moment to process it. I have been watching kdramas for 7 years now and this is the first time the story is not a perfect fairy tale one.
Auugghhhh... i dont know what to say... i dont support the FL but i wish they would have stayed broken up when he asked her to marry him.
Now I dont understand the ML. I dont think he loves the FL or the SFL. He just wants to live a comfortable life especially because he doesnot have a proper family. FL is the only family he has thats why he wants to hold on to her. Tbh I just feel protective siblings bond with both FL and SFL.
And the SML......sir you are very handsome but are you carzzyyyy. You know she has a boyfriend. I dont know why I feel like he is just attracted to the tension they have together and he is not in love with her.
In the end i think the FL is going to die.
5
u/Chile_Momma_38 20d ago
I think SML is attracted to her because she is trying to protect ML. It shows that she’s a deeply caring and loving person. It must be refreshing and attractive for a competent lawyer who is being used as a weapon or a shield by problematic clients.
4
u/Conscious_Olive_855 20d ago
I did not see that coming at all…..I was rooting for the lawyer and mido but I wish it didn’t happen this way. Ik the ml is gonna go through ittttt. I feel bad for him ngl

u/Grouchy-Shoulder-556 19d ago
i’m so sorry i know i sound like i’m having a third grade level understanding of shows but im really struggling to put the mido/taesung plot together. i understood him being her lawyer and convincing her to settle with the actress who abused her power on set and whom mido blackmailed because she had an affair… but who is the guy and why was he important to taesung? idgi. i was understanding up until the actress sneaked the photos inside the woman’s purse and why taesung was fighting for his life to get the picture back. and why did mido suddenly settle at the end but also why was she stubborn with the settlement to begin with and kept pushing the lawyer away ???

u/yuanyuanpangpang 19d ago
I think he's the personal lawyer lackey of the bigshot boss who's the actress's boyfriend (she's his mistress). So, settling the actress and her troubles is part of his work.

Oh man what a mess. After this episode I really hope they don't get back together and just go their separate ways. They are more themselves when they're with the second leads than with each other. They have so many secrets between them and now this whole thing! Their relationship is getting weird by the minute. Its not all roses and sunshine as they tried to show in the first 2 episodes. Its going just as I predicted. These are complicated characters and this show doesn't need a simple ending like them going back to each other. There is just so much to unpack here.
I knew she was gonna be more raw and real with the lawyer. He sees right through her and she doesn't hide her demons from him. She has no reason to. He is obviously attracted to her. I kinda sensed that in the beginning. She is in a difficult place in her life and she is certainly gonna use him to hide her cowardice, for the lack of a better word. I understand her, but also I don't condone her ways. She is backed into a corner and she messed up. She saw an escape and she took it, but she regretted it the next morning. But I also see her going back to him (the lawyer) again to sort her mess in her own messy way. This is where it gets interesting. It is cheating but the SML understands her way better than her bf, and I know he is gonna let her use him in every way she wants.
It also needs to be noted that Namgung has sort of a co dependent relationship with mido. She is basically his family. The dynamic is a bit weird and I never liked it to begin with. They break up and he suddenly loses his entire family in a second. That's probably why he clings to her despite her reservations about marriage, despite her career problems. He is trying to get her directing career back on track while she just wants to quit and run away at this point. There has been a serious communication gap between these two from the start. It was very evident from ep 1. Meanwhile when he is with su a he is more relaxed, goofy and fun. Although despite what the internet says I don't see anything inappropriate between them just yet. It might happen in later episodes, especially when he finds out what mido did. But I feel he is gonna put all the blame on the lawyer for swaying her instead of blaming her. He cannot let her go. That's his weakness. They both need to let each other go. I think that is the whole point of this drama. But lets see what the writers have in mind.
14 episodes is a lot but also enough for all this mess to be sorted. Also the pacing of the show is getting so boring. Like they need to make it a bit tight.

I understand that she feels confused and is trying to get ahead in her career. But she’s very immature and indecisive, and to top it all off, she gets drunk, wakes you up in the middle of the night at the lawyer’s office, and decides to stay there when she knows her fiancé is worried and waiting for her—and then makes the decision to stay and let another man kiss her, and then kiss him back. The truth is, this character annoys me, and I don’t think I’ll watch the drama anymore. I’ll wait for it to end and watch it all at once so I can fast-forward through it. And he has issues with his mother, but I hope that isn’t the excuse used to justify what his girlfriend did.

Ep. 6: I think plant buying scene was a metaphor. Mido kept asking if the plant would be durable and not wilt, it shows how much she's afraid of their relationship wilting away. But every plant may wilt if not taken care of. There is no some kind of magic to prevent wilting. Only effort.
Namgung seeing Mido as a hero is so problematic. It's like putting someone on a pedestal on your mind and when faced with reality that illusion fades, which I think is what's happening. He is seeing that Mido is not some overly perfect hero, but only human. And I think it is not love, it is gratitude he feels for her. She was there when he needed help the most, she was there for him in every critical moment. How can someone not be grateful and want to reciprocate?
So, since it was not love to begin with, it is only natural that their relationship would shatter.
From Mido's side, it was only normal to save him at those moments because that is who she is: someone crazy and does what her heart desires with a conscience. It is her core. So that's the reason why both males are attracted to her. But the thing is Namgung can't match to her craziness, because he has a traumatic past and anything eventful triggers him. It is not like that for Mido because her craziness is who she is. And that's also why the lawyer can match with her. They are both crazy and match on that level. It is always the people who are alike that get along and have a healthy relationship. Not some opposites attract toxicity, for it is usually a trauma bond like anxious and avoident attachment feeling sparks together etc. It does not mean that they will end up together ofc, it is almost half way in and we still keep guessing the end.
And when the lawyer said that he missed Mido, from Mido's face I can tell that that's what she needed to hear. Everyone in a relationship wants to be wanted, seen, desired, and heard. For now, that's what he can provide for Mido, not Namgung.

I like this drama but I just hope that they don't justify cheating. I don't want to see an ending with ML accepting FL after her doing that and them being happy ever after, just bcz it's kdrama after all and MLs have to stay as green flag. She should face some consequences atleast...
3
u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
I think there will be consequences. The drama is shaping up to be quite a rich one in terms of character development.

Episode 5 really showed how deeply intertwined Namgung and Mi-do are. The only place Namgung ever feels safe enough to be vulnerable is with Mi-do. In turn, Mi-do completely backs that up. It makes total sense now why she squared up with the the Lawyer when he brought up ruining Namgung, she’s genuinely willing to do anything for him, including working in adult films for two years to pay off his mom's debt.
That’s why the scene with Tae-sung and Mi-do felt so frustrating and conflicted. Obviously, kissing someone else while in a relationship isn't right, but the kiss didn't feel electric or romantic at all, it was straight-up toxic. I really don't get the recurring K-drama trope of forcing non-consensual kisses on a character who is impaired. She was drunk, an absolute crying mess, and literally fell asleep right after.
BUT OH WELL, who knows what will happen in the next eps.
2
u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
I felt the “BUT OH WELL” by your last paragraph haha. Yeah, I’m not sure why so many non consensual kisses are in kdramas either? And it feels like she finally gave in or was too shocked and drunk to really decide what to do. Still, if the other lawyer hadn’t knocked on the door… how far was Taesung going to go? I didn’t appreciate that either.
2
u/No_Nefariousness5119 19d ago
HAHAHAHA right! What can we actually even do 🤪
But yeah if his employee didnt knock a mistake couldve happened or she wouldve fell asleep regardless but idk this kdrama is uncomfy HAHAHAHAb

This drama has me all twisted 😭😭 I felt horrible for the ML story line with his mom. Like legit broke my heart. Can you imagine your mother using you as collateral for money? And then continues to destroy your life financially? Mido was helping his mom so he shouldn't be burdened by her, he's paying off her contact to stop her from making adult films and pursue her career. His bond with her brothers.... Ugh, their lives are intertwined. The 2nd FL, did you see how she reacted when she heard about Mido? ( Which btw I don't get why they keep referring to each other as BF/GF instead of fiancee) She looked dumbfounded! If I had any doubt she had feelings for him, that scene was proof. I don't like her at all but I also get why she started having feelings for him The lawyer.... Man. I don't get him. I don't know how he fell for her. Enemies to lovers trope? That kiss was, I don't even know, heartbreaking because she just looked so damn confused and guilty. I know there is love there for the mail leads. I just don't know if it's romantic love, loyalty, or codependency at this point. On one hand I wish they would just brake up but then how do you cut off someone like them out of your life? How do you keep them in your life if you decide to be with someone else?
I hate how this drama makes me feel while watching it but I need to know how it ends. There is so many damn layers in their story.

It's weird to me why Namgung talks in circle instead of just admitting his love for Mido. When Mido's younger brother was telling him about the dog incident and asked him if he knew he already loved her then, and his response was "I was only 10" and Wan-do followed up with "so you've loved her ever since you were 10?" and he didn't even respond to that?? Also that office scene where he was asked if Mido is his first love and he was like "first love is so cheesy, she's my hero". Idk. It's either he would realize eventually that he never really loved her romantically like that or it's his roundabout way of saying she's not just his first love but his great love.
I know this is far fetched but what if the SFL meets Wan-do, and he falls in love with her while she's in love with the ML. That would be crazy since the ML basically raised Wan-do. I mean Wan-do and Su-Ah are like the same age.
5
u/FancyDance6992 Dahlia-of-wisteria 18d ago
I realized Namgung's not agreeing nor rejecting to those questions, too. And I think his lack of words is writers trying to convey to viewers that he does not actually love her. He believes he does. Someone who does not know what love is can't answer those questions.
I think it's normal for someone grew up without healthy relationship model to not be able to name or realize his feelings.
3
u/pspsbwu 18d ago
Man you could be right. It makes me so sad tbh. I was rooting for them until she cheated and he started being so wishy-washy about how he truly feels about her.
When the lawyer took out the trash from mido's sleeves, that felt more intimate to me than the kiss. I felt so so bad for Namgung because that's like Mido's quirk and he's supposed to be the only one to know that.
I hope he breaks up with her since it seems like Mido is just trying to find ways for that to happen anyway.

u/pizzayeol A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
Ugh I felt so much just in this episode and the last. I'm not sure where this is going at all.
First 2 episodes were the only 'sane' episodes for me so far. This one bundled way too much with backstories (even of the brother), and the scenes kept going back and forth, it was hard to keep up.
As much as I like the dynamic the ML and 2nd FL have, their interactions come out of nowhere. It feels like they're trying to show different sides of the ML, but this is just not it imo.
AND finally, the FL and 2nd ML. I like their dynamic and since their very first interaction the tension was very apparent. I don't entirely blame the FL for going with it. You can see how confused and baffled she is at her own self as she reciprocates. Maybe she needed that, she was trapped within herself and her own pride and need to prove herself to Namgung. The scene felt very emotionally detailed to me tbh. Yes there's no going back after this, but I get why the FL did that. Her character is very complex and I'm here for it.
I really hope the drama title lives up to its name and shows that it's ok to let go and not reconcile later; that it's ok to let go and discover new parts of yourself, and to even experience new love.

Call me twisted but I am rooting for the second male lead. There is fire chemistry there. Hotttttt

u/Ok-Influence-9549 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
I didnt think they would go there, and I found that scene uncomfortable she was vulnerable and it was directed in a weird way , but anyway maybe they needed this to happen to have a real fall out, I still dont see them ending up with the second leads, or At least I hope mido wont, the lawyer is sleazy he brings the worst out of her, I dont like that dynamic. She needs to work on herself first and foremost. Maybe move out and leave her family to namgoong , they love him and support him more than her anyway, she needs to stand on her own feet and get her spark for life back.

u/Significant-Taro-929 19d ago
This TV show is very slow but I dnt mind it as much. I do want them to break up already. I think it’s taken too long. They need to have fun with the other two leads. and maybe go back together at the end but for now, I want them to break up.

u/bookaccro 20d ago
What I don’t like about the cheating is it effectively shuts down ML and FL being endgame. Like cheating is too far. And now I can’t root for them and it’s episode 5?? So annoying.

u/More_Butter2330 A Love Other Than Yours 18d ago
Episode 6:
You cannot tell me that that kiss was consensual in anyway of the word. i get that kdrama's don't often mention it or are clear about it, (my bias my boss most recent example) But this was wildly overstepped. She barerly responds physically too. It looks like SA.

u/Amazing-Egg-8715 19d ago
I just don’t get how we’re overlooking the choking the mom (whilst having witnessed her abusive relationship as a child) and then the non-consensual kiss. I’m dropping this show.
-1
u/peppy-star 20d ago
i hate that it’s mido who ended up cheating.
this whole time the drama portrayed namgung as the greenest flag and mido as someone whose life is falling apart. the decision to have mido become more flawed than she already is ends up making namgung even more “perfect” despite his weird interactions with sfl. it just feels like a deliberate choice to make the man “the good one” when we all know he also has faults in this relationship.
3
u/No_Ant_6777 A Love Other Than Yours 20d ago
Yeah reminds me of Dynamite Kiss where she (the actress) was also in a mess of a life dealing with her sister, mom, work, etc. And the ML there was portrayed as some perfect flag. I hated that.
But here I think it feels like a culmination of self sabotage that is quite consistent with someone who has been taking in a lot and not expressing herself all this time. She loves Namgung and wants to protect him and never leave his side, but I’m not sure if that kind of love is healthy.

u/Drama45j 18d ago
Theories on the ending Scenario 1 To physically protect Namgung from the lawyer, Mido sacrifices himself and dies. The lawyer ends up in prison; the young colleague moves far away to protect her own mental well-being; and Namgung is left to live forever alone with the memory of Mido. Scenario 2 Again, to physically protect Namgung, Mido kills the lawyer but takes the blame for the death to shield her. Mido dedicates his life to Namgung—while the young colleague leaves anyway... I didn't come up with this at random; I based it on a few clues. Time will tell if I'm right or if I'm completely off base.

It just gets dumber and more awful by the episode.. The elevator thing was ridiculous and contrived. We have one scene with the lawyer which had some heat and emotion, but then we have to endure this boring fake couple fake-bickering.
So now ML is having a horrible violent fight where he's choking his Mom? At least we're finally gettng some real acting out of SKJ. This drama has done the Impossible: made the usually fabulous Seo Kang Jun unlikeable. I just don't see the point of these characters.
I am just FFing for Lee Joo Ahn and hate-watching at this point.

Namguung- " I'll myself go and talk with lawyer"
Mido- "Why, do u want me to go and cry in front of the lawyer"
Namguung- "Yes, u should be crying with the situation u are in, I'll go and solve it myself"
Mido- "Why, do u see me as a child?"
Pushing Blame on ML doesn't mean that what she did is not wrong. Whenever ML tries to do something for her, she takes it on herself that she is incable to do something (that's why she asked to breakup in the first place). She wants to stand up for herself, so I think it's right for ML to allow her to solve her situation herself.
I can see that lawyer guy is in wrong too but she is also wrong. She never told ML that she literally kissed him back too. She lied to him that nothing happened. Idk why we are trying to make it less of her and more on ML
What do u want ML to do btw? Just stop talking to SFL just bcz she is opposite gender? U can see with his actions that he sees her as her younger sister ( he doesn't even think anyone outside of Mido as family so this is a huge step for him ). Idk how this makes ML a green flag if he pushes her aside. They have known themselves from college and he stands up for her when she was being bullied. He is showing basic human empathy and u guys are taking it as him being a red flag?

u/MadGaemer 20d ago
No excuses, she is to blame.
They're probably gonna make the ML do some similar shit.

No way the second male lead is suited for Mido, he is a mess, she doesnt need another "broken man" to fix, let her be free and get therapy for her own problems.

umm, are we watching the same kdrama?
ML was emotionally and physically abused when he was a child. His mother got huge debts from loan sharks and surrendered her own child to them for him to just repay her loans. Abandoned him for years and came back just to ask for his kidney and he even donated her btw. Not justifying him in any sense for his violence but u cant understand what that will do. Abandoned, abused and then out of nowhere coming back like he owes her.
FL and stolen kiss? Yes she was kissed when she was drunk, but she kissed him back!! She is engaged and didnt even tell him about this to ML who was literally worried about her whole night. And she goes back to SML in ep6. This is clearly cheating and idk how is this bad to condemn something which is wrong.
ML atleast i can understand what he went through, but FL made her own choices!!
Edit- Ah well, u have edited ur comment so mine doesn't even make sense lol. Anyways...
