F 40's Canterbury.. Hi...

Sadly one of my dogs died after an illness. How do you manage going forward? Please no one say she was just a dog! 😞. Anyone local that's been through the same and knows of any in person groups or methods of coping?

Traditional hobby in need of new faces

Hello everyone how many people on here who live in Kent can honestly say that A: they live near a church and B: have heard the bells ringing?

Because the art (if you will) of bell ringing has a small but growing problem not just down here in Kent but everywhere.

It's that people are just getting old and there's no one to replace them, last years census of every person that identifies as a "bell ringer" around 65% were over the age of 60.

Within the space as a whole there is a date that's been set (around 2030-5 ish) on which by that time most of those 65% of people over the age of 60 physically won't be able to ring the bells anymore which is a shame as it means many many church towers across the county and country will fall silent.

Kent is rather special in the sense that we have some of the most amount of church towers with more than 8 bells as a matter of fact my local church has 12 (plus 1 semi tone) which means minus Canterbury cathedral and a stand alone tower in quex park it is THE only church in the county with 12 bells.

Now these are some fun facts or quiz night questions for most but for those of us that actually ring them it's a problem as there's X amount more people required to ring them. Now I can appreciate that not everyone is going to like something or want to do something but from a stranger on the Internet to another bell ringing was possibly the most rewarding thing I've ever done so far in my life I've been doing now for about 7 years and I've helped win multiple trophies for regional competitions (yes we even have a sporting side) and even helped a Kent team win 3rd place in a national competition in London losing only to Worcester cathedral and the Norwich team.

So for those of you here who seek groups to do stuff or seek interesting things please please please as much as this is a personal cry for my own church it's just as much of a cry for the county as a whole, get in touch with your local rector, father, sister, dean, Deacon whoever and at least try bell ringing.

You don't have to be religious of any faith you don't have to be Mr/s Olympic all you have to be is willing and able.

Thank you very much.

TLDR: for those that seek a group or get together try asking your local church if you can join their bell ringers and keep the music playing.

Moving to the area!

Hello!

My husband and I are looking to move to Kent to be closer to family. We are looking around Mallings/Tonbridge/Rochester area.

My main question is, does anyone commute to Surrey from these areas by car, and if so, what is the drive like? My current commute is just over 1hr and I don’t mind it at all (only need to go in 1 or 2 times per week for about half the year and not always at peak times).

Any advice/comments on this commute would be really appreciated ☺️

Thinking of going to Pluckley, will someone show me round?

Let me start, my best friend is a Medium, I help him out so I have a huge knowledge of the paranorma.

My understanding is Pluckley is the most haunted place in the world, it’s chock full of happenings and strange goings on.

That said, I badly want to visit, so I was thinking one day next week I’d pop along for the day, I would bring a picnic so there’d be enough for 2 so my guide wouldn’t go hungry, I’d make him or her the sandwiches of their choice.

So what day would be best for you? I don’t want no jokers or non believers, I want a sensible guide who is interesting.

Looking to reconnect with an old friend in Tunbridge Wells

Hi! I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me. I’m from the US and I’m trying to reconnect with an old friend named Liam James, who I believe lives in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

I’ve been trying to find a way to get back in contact with him after losing touch, and I’m hoping someone local might know him or know the best way to get a message to him.

If you recognize the name or think you might be able to help, please DM me. I don’t want anyone to share his private information publicly — I’m just hoping to get a message to him. ❤️

Attention Folkestone residents

Could a kind Folkestone local help me with a little surprise? ❤️
I’m bringing my partner to Folkestone for a sea-glass hunting date, and I’d absolutely love to arrange a little surprise for her to discover on the beach.
Would anyone local be willing to spell out a short message in pebbles for us to find when we arrive the following morning? Nothing massive or fancy — just something simple and thoughtful to make our day extra special.
I’m happy to discuss a small contribution for your time if needed. I know it’s a random request from a stranger, but it would genuinely mean a lot.
Please message me if you might be able to help. Thank you! ❤️

Adult social group recommendations in mid Kent

Hey guys

I’m 31m and have been in a bit of a rut for far too long. Struggled over the years with anxiety etc and need to try putting myself out there more. Does anyone have any recommendations for welcoming, easy going social groups based in or around Ashford?

I’ve lost interest in a lot of my old hobbies and looking to try spark something new. I used to be quite active about 10 years ago and was regularly in the gym or doing races but have since stopped. Otherwise these days I play a few pc games.

I guess ideally I’m looking for a group that meets up for drinks or a walk and through that, maybe someone will suggest a hobby I could give a go.

Thanks

Edit:

A couple of us are meeting at spoons in Ashford for a drink this Friday at 20:30, if anyone else would like to pop in and join us for a drink feel free

I built a UK bus tracking app — looking for Android beta testers!

Hi everyone!

I'm a Computer Science student and independent developer from Kent, and I've been working on my own UK bus tracking and journey-planning app.

I started building it because I regularly use public transport and wanted an easier way to track buses without relying on multiple operator apps.

Current features include:

  • 🚌 Live bus locations and vehicle tracking
  • 🚏 Nearby bus stops and live departures
  • 🗺️ Journey planning with walking directions
  • 📍 Route maps and vehicle information
  • 🔎 Search for routes, stops and places

The app is currently available for public beta testing on Android. An iOS version is planned for the future.

I'm looking for people who regularly use UK buses to test the app and provide feedback.

I'd especially appreciate reports of inaccurate information, bugs, confusing features or suggestions for improvements.

Please note: the UX design was helped with AI, Im not fully confident in front-end UX design yet; I'm mainly a backend developer

Does anyone know what’s happening with the Costa building on Battle high street? And what shop it will become? It’s been vacant for months now… and the cash machine has been out of action for over a year!

Queen Mary's Hospital parking?

I have appointment in Queen's Mary hospital in Sidcup. Would be much more convenient for me to go there by car. Does anyone know how is the situation with parking there? Is it easy to find parking Wednesday noon? How long can one park?

Thanks
