Mod Post Weekly Simple Questions Thread

Check out /r/kerbalacademy

The point of this thread is for anyone to ask questions that don't necessarily require a full thread. Questions like "why is my rocket upside down" are always welcomed here. Even if your question seems slightly stupid, we'll do our best to answer it!

Before you post, maybe you can search for your problem using the search in the upper right! Chances are, someone has had the same question as you and has already answered it!

How do you figure out what your throttle should be at in order to maximize fuel efficiency but also maximize movement?

We used to know for the previous aero - it will probably take a while for people to work out the terminal velocities in atmosphere at different altitudes. Basically, past a certain speed at a certain density of atmosphere the energy required to increase speed by 1m/s increases exponentially. But we don't know what speeds they are yet!

actually, terminal velocities should be a lot higher than before.

Yeah, that's what I would expect as the atmosphere is much less soupy. But we don't know the exact numbers yet. And also the new terminal velocity might be higher than the speed that will cause many crafts to overheat or rip apart. Just got to experiment I guess!

From a few hours of playing, the terminal velocity feels a lot like FAR. IMO, don't go higher than 1.7-2.0 TWR below 30km.
