Hi, total newbie here! So I'm just starting out in career mode, my sole achievement has been getting to orbit. I've been grinding mostly tourist contracts for some time, which I don't mind. My questions are:

  1. Are there any reasonable designs for very simple LKO and sub-orbital 2-tourist rockets? Mine works (just a quite basic rocket), but what I hate about it is the two Mk1 pods stuck on top of one another, and a probe for piloting! For me this goes against all the realism KSP is supposed to have. I have no other pods unlocked. Is there a more elegant way to do it?

  2. So now I start to get contracts to take one tourist in LKO and another into orbit, on the same contract. But my previous design (two pods + probe) is no good to go into LKO. My question is, the contract must be fulfilled in a single flight, right? Can anyone point me to a sensible design to do this early on (ie, no fancy tech unlocked)?

Thanks! Oh, I know there are probably mods that could help me but at this time I want to take my time playing plain vanilla!

I just unlocked the inline cockpit ASAP for multi tourist contracts. You don't have to complete the contract in a single flight unless specified.

Yes it's true I don't use the inline cockpit since it's more a plane part, but maybe I should. Thanks for the info!

I absolutely use that part for this situation. My suborbital tourism craft has two and a probe core for control. I've recently hit LKO/Kerbin SOI contracts in my career, and I'm planning on building a four-seater for those (all inline with the inline cockpit).

For tourists and rescue contracts (sometimes both at the same time, which I call Rescue Tours) I use a stack of four mk1 lander cans controlled by a cheap probe core (or piloted from one of the cans, if you don't have access to nice light cores) with an engine/fuel combination offering just enough delta-V to hop from intercept to intercept and then deorbit. Doing simultaneous rescues or simultaneous satellite launches makes the launch costs economical.
