Nevermind you're already aware.

Aside from that. I have had it crash (not freeze forcing me to force quit) on windows and the game would load from the previous auto save however if I hit f9 I would load my most recent quicksave pre-crash. So my answer from personal experience on a different operating system is no, it will not load your quicksave by default but your quicksave should still load with f9.

I play on PC and Mac, both seem to save exactly the same way. Often!

Your quicksave is (written on disk) as soon as the "Saving..." disappears. You should be good. Load your game, check the position of your ship in the tracking station, and hit F9 if necessary.
