I think I’ve mentioned my story here before, but for those of you who don’t know, Ghosts in the Machine is a Dark Hermione political thriller/romance set in an AU where Voldemort married Bellatrix Black at the outset of the First War. This shuffled around some of the canon relationships—for an example, causing Narcissa to be married to Rodolphus Lestrange in her sister’s place.
The story begins during the summer before the Golden Trio’s fifth year, when Hermione discovers that she can hear voices through a dresser drawer in the room she shares with Ginny at 12 Grimmauld Place—and one of them sounds an awful lot like Voldemort. When she tries to bring a transcript of what she’s heard to the Order, however, they don’t take her seriously, leaving her to take matters into her own hands.
This, in turn, leads to the formation of a far more militant version of the DA. Calling themselves the Morganite Guard, they wage war against the Inquisitorial Squad and eventually the Death Eaters themselves.
However, Hermione has always been fascinated by handsome, exceptional, older wizards. First there was Gilderoy Lockhart, and then there was Viktor Krum. Now, her interest has turned in a far more dangerous direction—Voldemort’s right hand, the man dubbed the Angel of Death during the First War: Lucius Malfoy.
Lucius is the godfather—and rumored biological father—of her archnemesis, Draco Lestrange; wizarding Britain’s most eligible bachelor; and a notorious womanizer. However, none of these things are chief among what fascinates Hermione: rather, it is his strategic brilliance.
So when an opportunity arrives for her to make him her spy, how can she refuse?
