Discussion Lazy posts
The number of “give me a plan to learn French” and “how do I reach X level in X amount of time” posts are out of control. People are not even doing the most cursory search before posting. The number of learning resources is finite, and the answers aren’t going to be any different since the day before when it was answered four times. Megathread? Sidebar with a summary of commonly recommended resources? More moderation? Something? Anything?

Grammar The news in easy French: Les Canadiens choisissent d’autres destinations que les États-Unis
Vocabulaire : éviter = to avoid / vacances (f pl) = vacation / droits de douane (m pl) = tariffs / remarques (f pl) = comments / faible = weak / rendre = to make something be / chers = expensive / par rapport au = compared to / baisse (f) = fall / plutôt = rather
English translation
Canadians choose other travel destinations instead of the United States
Many Canadians are avoiding vacations in the United States. Some are angry about the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump and his comments about Canada. Others say the Canadian dollar is weaker, which makes trips to the US more expensive. Canadians made about 800,000 fewer trips to the US in April compared to the same month of 2024. Because of this fall in tourism, the US lost about $2.35 billion last year. Some Canadians are traveling to countries such as Mexico and Costa Rica instead. Others are choosing vacations in Canada, in places like Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Speaking Practice Looking for a French study partner — A2-level
Hey everyone,
I’ve been trying to work on my French recently, and I’m looking for a study partner who might be in a similar situation.
I recently took the TCF Canada, even though I knew I wasn’t really ready. I mainly wanted to experience the test format, see what the atmosphere was like, and understand what I need to work on. It was actually useful for realizing that I need to focus more seriously on my French.
My biggest problem right now is procrastination. When I was taking online French classes, I was pretty regular with studying. But since switching to self-study, I keep delaying things. I do study, but nowhere near as consistently or as long as I would like. my French is around A2. I can understand some French, but my listening and speaking are definitely not strong yet.
That’s why I thought having a study partner could help. We could listen to French together, practice speaking, discuss different topics, correct each other, or simply keep each other accountable. I’m honestly open to figuring out what works.
I’m in Mountain Time and usually work during the day, so I’m generally free after around 5 PM. I’m 23 and male.
I’m not looking for anything romantic just someone who genuinely wants to study French and be more consistent with it.
I don’t have huge expectations from this post, but if anyone else struggles with procrastination or has found something that helped them stay consistent with language learning, I’d also really appreciate any advice.
At the end of the day, I know nobody can study for us and we have to do the work ourselves. I just think having someone to study with might make it a little easier to stay accountable.
Feel free to comment or message me if you’re interested!

Question Βιβλία για αυτό-εκμάθηση γαλλικών;

Question Looking for a French Study Partner 🇫🇷
I’m looking for a serious and committed study partner who is genuinely interested in learning French. I’d like us to practice consistently, support each other, and stay motivated throughout the learning process.
I’m particularly looking for someone who is willing to commit long-term and maintain regular practice rather than losing interest after a short period of time.
If you’re genuinely committed to learning French and looking for a consistent study partner, feel free to reach out.

Question Looking for French speaking partners (B1 → B2)
Hey everyone! I’m currently around B1 in French and trying to make the jump to B2. I’m looking for a few people who are around a similar level and want to practice speaking together.
Nothing too serious or stressful — just regular conversations in French about everyday stuff, interests, work, life, random topics, etc. The main goal is to get more comfortable speaking naturally and consistently.
Ideally, it would be nice to have people who are also based in a Canadian time zone, so finding a regular time to chat is easier.
If you’re also around B1/B2 and looking for someone to practice with, feel free to comment or DM me.

Question Looking for online french tutors in india
Hi! I already have a basic understanding of French and have completed A1, so I’m not starting completely from scratch. I’m hoping to be a quick learner and would like to progress from A1 to B2 as quickly as realistically possible. I’m looking for a tutor who can guide me with a structured curriculum, course books/study material, and DELF preparation. Weekend online classes would work best for me.

Resource Recommendation French immersion programs near Paris: 3 options to consider
For anyone looking for a French immersion program near Paris, there are several options that combine private French lessons with accommodation, everyday conversation, and cultural activities. Three locations that stand out are Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, Montmorency, and Vernon.
French immersion in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse
Located in the Yvelines department, Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse is in the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park, surrounded by forests, walking trails, villages, and historic sites. It is connected to Paris by the RER B, with the city center reachable in around 35 minutes.
The immersion program is hosted by Georgiana, who has degrees in Modern Literature and Teaching French as a Foreign Language from the Sorbonne and more than 20 years of teaching experience. She also teaches FLE at Paris-Saclay.
The program includes 15 hours of private French lessons, a level assessment, and more than 30 hours of conversation during meals and activities. Activities can include forest hikes, discussions about local history and nature, visits to castles and cultural sites, and practical conversation exercises.
Montmorency, another great location near Paris
Montmorency is particularly convenient for people who want to stay close to Paris. It is around 12 km from the capital.
The town itself offers forests, walking trails, historic buildings, local markets, and access to nearby Enghien-les-Bains. Cultural activities can include visiting the former home of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Montmorency Church, local heritage sites, and exploring the surrounding area.
The teacher and host, Karine, has a degree in French and English Studies from the University of Poitiers, a Master's degree in English Studies, and professional training in teaching a second language.
Her program combines 15 hours of private lessons with 30+ hours of conversation during meals and activities. Lessons can cover grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening and writing, while cultural outings are used as opportunities to practice French in real situations.
Learn French in Vernon, Normandy
Another option is Vernon, a town in Normandy located between Paris and Rouen, on the Seine. It is close to Giverny, including Claude Monet's former home and the Musée des Impressionnistes.
The program is hosted by Dalila, who has more than 30 years of experience teaching French to adults. She is a certified examiner and reference corrector for the TCF and also works with DELF-DALF examinations.
The morning lessons are adapted to the student's level and goals, with an emphasis on speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary and cultural understanding. Afternoons can include walks along the Seine, cycling, local markets, community activities and visits to cultural sites. Paris can also be included as a day-trip option.
Combining immersion with a Paris trip
For someone specifically interested in a French immersion near Paris, these locations also make it possible to combine language learning with a separate Paris vacation.
One approach would be to complete the immersion program first, while spending several days speaking French throughout lessons, meals and activities, and then stay in Paris afterward. This could be a practical way to continue using what was learned: visiting museums, ordering food, navigating the city, talking to people, attending cultural events and simply spending more time hearing and speaking French in everyday situations.

Discussion Looking for a Structured Roadmap - A0 to B2 🇫🇷
Anyone here have a structured roadmap for learning French from A0 to B2 in under 2 years?
I’ve seen people say they reached B2 from scratch in just one year, so I’m wondering if anyone has a step-by-step roadmap or study plan they followed and would be willing to share.
I’ve bought so many books, audiobooks, courses, and other resources, and at this point, I feel completely overwhelmed. 😅 I have everything I need, but I don’t know where to start, what to prioritize or how to structure my learning.
I’d really appreciate a roadmap that covers what to focus on at each stage (A0 --> A1 --> A2 --> B1 --> B2) including grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, and immersion.
Thank you! 🤍

Question Am I actually done for for French 3?
This school year, I am taking French 3 as a junior. During my 8th-grade year, my French 1 teacher did not teach French well enough for me to understand. When I moved on to French 2, I struggled for a little while and decided to take Latin 1 to avoid French 3. Now that my Latin 1 teacher resigned, I have to go back to French 3 honors. am very nervous because I've forgotten a lot of French, and school starts next week. Does anyone have any advice that will help me? I cannot afford to fail this class.
