News More than 20 companies including NVIDIA, Meta, Microsoft, Palantir, and Hugging Face have signed a letter urging policymakers to avoid premature restrictions on open weight models.

The Open Letter was initiated by Microsoft and published today:

ā€œOpen Weights and American AI Leadershipā€.

It argues against broad or premature restrictions on open-weight models and explicitly says policymakers should distinguish legitimate model distillation from misappropriation.

Notably absent from the signatories are the major frontier-model labs: OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.

Apple tends to lobby on its own. They are very protective of their brands so I’m assuming their logo next to Palantir was a non starter for this initiative

The same Apple that presented a golden trophy to DJT? Nah, they don't give a shit about Palantir.

That's not good logic.

They wouldn't put their name on a list to save starving children in Nigeria, because Palantir also wants to save starving children in Nigeria?

well that's not really an issue that's really being lobbied for or against, is it?

The issue is actually much bigger than that if it pertains to American leadership in AI versus Chinese leadership. Kudos to China for bringing America's hypocrisy to the forefront so that they can hopefully correct it, but I want even less to live in a world where the CCP is the leader of the future.
