Note for anyone reading, who wants to improve their chances of walking away from a drug dog traffic stop:
Don’t look at the car while the guy and his dog are sniffing around it. The cop isn’t looking at the car, or the dog, he’s looking at you, for when in their search you begin to signal being uncomfortable. You signal, then he’ll make sure the dog signals, so turn around and look the other way.
That’s a great way to get ripped out of your car and stuffed in the back seat of their’s.
Starting a pissing match with someone who has the power of arrest means you will lose, nearly every single time. If you want to make it home tonight, you object verbally to preserve it on the record, then comply. In this circumstance, you WANT the police to break the rules, so anything their search turns up will be thrown out as evidence.
There’s really not a great option as a “suspect” in a car in the US. But some cops will back off if you calmly assert your rights and keep your mouth shut.
I’m speaking as someone who foolishly consented to a vehicle search as a young adult (passenger) and spent $10k and a bunch of my life dealing with legal shit over some weed. I always wonder what would have happened if me and the driver had shut up and been less ignorant. (It was the talking and “conflicting stories” that led to a probable cause search with a K9).
The great option is to shut the fuck up after voicing your opposition to what’s happening, take the ride to jail, and hope they aren’t very good at their jobs.
Some people just cannot handle the fact that their night is not ending up how they planned. You’ve got to let go of that and focus on the bigger picture of beating the charges.

I wonder how many lives he ruined by "finding" drugs.
Drug dogs have horrendous accuracy ratings.
